ぶらり東京散歩その29～自由学園明日館と池袋駅周辺 Tokyo Stroll 29 Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan and the Area Around Ikebukuro Station

I walked slowly for about 15 minutes through a residential area from Zoshigaya. My destination was Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan.

住宅街の中に突如現れる壮麗な建物。
magnificent building suddenly appears amidst the residential neighborhood.

写真では幾度となく見ていたが、実際に見るとその美しさ壮麗さに圧倒される。フランク・ロイド・ライト恐るべし。
I had seen it many times in photos, but seeing it in person is overwhelming with its beauty and grandeur. Frank Lloyd Wright is truly remarkable.

残念なことに、この日は結婚式が催されるとのことで、内部見学はできなかった。
Unfortunately, a wedding was being held that day, so I couldn’t tour the interior.

敷地内にはお土産ショップもある。

内部見学ができるときにぜひ再訪してみたい。
I definitely want to visit again when tours of the interior are available.

その後は豊島区の郷土資料館を見学。
After that, I visited the Toshima City Local History Museum.

規模的には、以前訪れた港区郷土資料館と比べるべくもないが、
n terms of scale, it can hardly compare to the Minato City Local History Museum I visited before, but...

このような手の込んだジオラマもあったりして、なかなか見ごたえがあった。
There were also elaborate dioramas like this one, making it quite worth seeing.

その後はサンシャイン通りをブラブラ。
After that, I strolled casually along Sunshine Street.

南池袋公園は芝養生中。

東京劇術劇場は、設備更新のため休館中。私が社会人になりたての頃にオープンした記憶があるが、調べてみたら、1990ねんとのことなので、築35年超というところか。次回は西口方面も散策してみたい。
Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre is currently closed for facility upgrades.
I remember it opening when I had just started working, and after checking, I found out it was in 1990, so it’s now over 35 years old.
Next time, I’d like to explore the west exit area as well.
