NXP Semiconductors N.V.NXPI reported better-than-expected third-quarter 2026 results, driven by higher automotive semiconductor content, industrial demand and data center infrastructure growth.
NXPI reported non-GAAP earnings of $4.20 per share, which increased 35% year over year and beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.45%.
Revenues increased 19.3% year over year to $3.79 billion, exceeding the consensus estimate by 0.41%. Automotive sales crossed $2 billion for the first time, while Industrial & IoT revenues surged 39% as customers expanded automation and intelligent-edge deployments.
NXPI's Automotive Business Benefits From Content Gains
Automotive revenues were $2.07 billion, up 13% year over year and 7% sequentially. Excluding the divested MEMS sensor business, automotive sales grew 17% year over year. Management attributed the strength to software-defined vehicles, electrification, connectivity and radar rather than an increase in vehicle production.
Software-defined vehicle revenues are running above $1.5 billion on an annualized basis, keeping NXPI on track for its $2 billion target in 2027. The company plans to begin shipping its S32K5 zonal processor and S32N central compute platforms next year. Volkswagen and Rivian's joint venture selected S32K5 for its zonal platform, supporting NXPI's position in the emerging vehicle architecture market.

NXPI's Industrial and Infrastructure Sales Accelerate
Industrial & IoT revenues climbed 39% year over year and 6% sequentially to $802 million. The industrial portion grew nearly 50%, supported by data centers, factory automation and health care, and now accounts for about 70% of the end market's revenues.
Communication Infrastructure & Other generated $503 million, up 54% year over year and 11% sequentially, benefiting from data center and secure-card demand. Mobile revenues, however, declined 4% year over year to $411 million, despite a 17% sequential increase, reflecting a more uneven demand profile across NXPI's portfolio.
NXPI's Margins Improve With Higher Factory Utilization
Non-GAAP gross profit rose 22% year over year to $2.22 billion, while gross margin increased 160 basis points to 58.6%. Management cited higher factory utilization and improved revenue flow-through, alongside favorable product mix and operating efficiencies.
Non-GAAP operating income climbed 31% to $1.41 billion. Operating margin expanded 330 basis points to 37.1%, while non-GAAP operating expenses were $810 million, or 21.4% of revenues. Management expects manufacturing utilization to rise further in 2027 and gross margin to reach 60% during that year.

Non-GAAP gross margin is projected at 59% at the midpoint, with an operating margin of 37.5%. Non-GAAP earnings per share are expected between $4.14 and $4.58, with a midpoint of $4.36.
