ラオスの田舎道
村へと続く道と村人↑(2008年3月27日、ナン郡、ルアンパバン県） 今は、2008年３月27日。 ラオスの北にある古都、ルアンパバンは世界遺産にも登録されている美しい街です。 そのルアンパバンから、南西方向に車で２、３時間走った所にあるナン郡にいます。 のどかな山村という感じのところですが、豊かな森林を伐採したあとに植えられているゴムの木の植林地が目に付き痛々しい感じです。 ある村に向かいました。 橋が架かっていない川を車で渡渉します。 深い川の場合は、わたるべき箇所を知っている人がいないと進めません。 村に着くと、のどかな農村風景が広がります。【Bon appétit !】 傷跡が残らない臓器移植 Living organ donors, like those who donate a healthy kidney to someone in need, face numerous challenges following surgery, including painful recovery periods that can keep them out of work for weeks. A group of pioneering surgeons, aiming to improve the recovery experiences of living kidney donors, has developed a new technique for the organ’s removal that uses only a single incision hidden inside the bellybutton. A small, tubelike port, through which a camera and several surgical tools are passed into the abdominal cavity, is inserted into the navel（へそ）incision. Doctors are then able to detach the kidney and remove it from the body via the bellybutton.

試運転列車から手を振る試乗客↑（2008年7月10日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年7月10日。 今日も、ラオス初めての鉄道の運転に向けて試運転列車が走ります。 10時10分過ぎころ、ターナーレーン駅をタイのノンカイに向けて出発した試運転列車が、走ってきます。 試乗客は大はしゃぎで、窓から手を振っています。 私も手を振ります。 こちら側で見送っている人は私しかいません。 この列車は、これからすぐに国境に架かる友好橋に入り、メコン川を渡り、タイ側の街ノンカイへと向かいます。【Bon appétit !】 韓国の酒 In Korea, the tradition of brewing alcoholic beverages, known as ju, is a long and proud one. ターナーレーン駅を出発するDL↑（2008年7月10日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年7月10日。 今、ラオス唯一の駅でありバンコク行きの列車の始発駅となるターナーレーン駅にいます。 ラオス初めての鉄道の運転に向けて7月4日から15日まで、鉄道の試運転が行われています。 10時10分ころ、試運転列車が出発です。 ターナーレーン駅を出て、これから国境に架かる友好橋を渡り、タイ側の街ノンカイへ向かいます。【Bon appétit !】 ケフィール Kefir is a fermented milk drink that originated in the Caucasus region of Eurasia and is prepared by inoculating cow, goat, or sheep's milk with kefir grains, a combination of bacteria and yeasts in a matrix(母体、基盤)of proteins, lipids（脂質）, and sugars. ターナーレーン駅で記念撮影する試乗客↑右奥に見えるのは機関車（2008年7月10日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年7月10日。 今、ターナーレーン駅にいます。 9時２５分に駅に着いた試運転列車からたくさんのタイ人が降りてきました。 皆、試運転の列車にタイのノンカイから乗ってきた試乗客です。 初めてラオスに来た人もいるのでしょうか、皆さんとてもはしゃぎまわっています。 写真を撮ったり、買い物をしています。 10時10分頃試運転列車がノンカイに向かって出発です。 タイから来た試乗客全員がまたタイへ戻ります。 ラオスからの試乗客も乗り込みます。 皆嬉しそうです。【Bon appétit !】 裁判官等の小槌 Used by judges, presiding officers, and auctioneers, gavels（小槌）are small ceremonial mallets(木づち) often struck against a block to call for attention or punctuate rulings. 田んぼ、未舗装の道、山がそろったラオスの景色↑（2008年3月27日、ナン郡、ルアンパバン県） 今は、2008年3月27日。 今日は、ルアンパバン県の東南に位置するナン郡にきています。 すぐお隣は、象がたくさんいると言われているサイニャブリー県です。 田んぼの稲がだいぶ大きくなっています。 近づいてみると稲の花が咲いています。 小さくて可憐です。 遠くの方には山が見えます。 のどかな農村風景です。【Bon appétit !】 月の火山ガラスに水 New analyses of lunar volcanic glass collected and returned to Earth during the US Apollo missions of the 1960s and 70s indicate that water was once held in the Moon’s interior. ラオスの池と家
池の中の島にある家↑（2008年6月21日、ヴィエンチャン） ヴィエンチャンから北へ４ｋｍも行くと湿地帯が広がります。 池が至る所にあり、魚をとっている人もいます。 ラオスではフナより小さいような小魚も食べますので、湿地帯で獲れる魚も地元の人にとっては貴重な収入源です。 中国資本が、この辺り一帯を大々的に開発すると言う話が伝わっています。 鉄道の駅も誘致されるそうです。 地元の人の幸せにつながる開発になるよう祈っています。【Bon appétit !】 パレイドリア Whether it's a face on Mars or the Virgin Mary's image on a grilled-cheese sandwich, perception of the meaningful in the mundane（ありふれたこと）is common. ラオスの人工湖
ダム湖の風景↑（2008年6月22日、ヴィエンチャン県） 今は、2008年6月22日。 今日は、ヴィエンチャンの北、４０ｋｍ位の所にあるナムスワンと言う所に来ています。 ラオス国日本人会主催の植樹祭に参加するためです。 ここに湖があります。 ダムによりできた人工湖です。 植樹が終わってから、ここにある湖に稚魚を放流しました。 ティラピア、コイの稚魚で、近くにある養殖試験場で育てられた稚魚です。 湖の岸辺の水が熱いので、少し中に入り込んで放流しました。 広い湖に放たれて、稚魚たちは嬉しそうでした。【Bon appétit !】 子供の肥満対策 New cholesterol screening and treatment recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics are a shocking wake-up call to many parents whose children are among the growing population of obese youth. トラックの荷台に積まれた青いバナナ↑（2008年4月14日、パークセー、チャンパーサック県） 今は2008年4月14日。 今日は、ラオスの最南端にあるチャンパーサック県の県庁所在地パークセーで一番大きなダーオファン市場に来ています。 市場の前に停まっているピックアップトラックの荷台にたくさんのバナナが積まれています。 まだ青いバナナです。 ラオスはバナナの産地ですので、熟したバナナで流通していると思っていたのですが、このように青いままのバナナが流通しています。 ラオスのバナナはとても美味しいので驚きます。 私は、よくフルーツシェークを飲むのですが、2回に１回はバナナシェークを頼んでいます。【Bon appétit !】 シャガールは1887年7月7日生まれ Chagall was a Belarusian painter often considered a forerunner（先駆者）of the Surrealist movement. 漢方薬売りとお客さん↑（2008年4月13日、パークセー、チャンパーサック県） 今は2008年4月13日。 今日は、ラオスの最南端にあるチャンパーサック県の県庁所在地パークセーに来ています。 今いるところは、パークセーで一番大きなダーオファン市場。 正面の門を入ったすぐの所に敷物を敷いて、漢方薬の原料を売っているお店がありました。 木の根っこや、乾燥した木や草、また、動物のようなものも売っています。 近くにいると、何となく薬のようなにおいが漂っています。 原料が入っている袋の上に、説明書きのようなものが置いてあります。 お客さんがその内容を聞きながら品物選びをしています。【Bon appétit !】 豆腐の食べ過ぎと記憶力 Touted（ほめちぎる）as heart-healthy "superfoods" that can lead to overall good health, tofu and other soy-based products are now suspected of triggering some negative health consequences, particularly in relation to memory. ラオスのチャーハン
味付けした赤い豚肉を使ったチャーハン↑（2008年4月21日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年4月21日。 今日は、今まで入ったことのないレストランを新規開拓したい気持ち。 というわけで、いつも気になっていて入ったことのない店に入ってみることにしました。 この店は、いつも店頭に調理済みの肉の塊が吊るしてあります。 経営者は中国人のようで、店の名前は中国語。 メニューから、チャーハンを選びます。 味付けした赤い豚肉を使ってあるチャーハンです。 いい加減なヴェジタリアンの私ですので、たまには肉も良いでしょう。 赤い豚肉は少々甘みがある叉焼で、出来上がったチャーハンは旨みがたっぷり。 この店に入って良かった！とろとろの叉焼まん「チャーシューまん5個入り」【Bon appétit !】 男性が女の子出産 When Thomas Beatie and his wife Nancy decided they wanted to have a child, they set in motion a series of events that would challenge traditional gender roles and make headlines around the world. ラオスの補習校
補習校の体験学習会で行われた田植え↑（2008年6月21日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、２００８年６月２１日。 今日は、ラオス在住の日本人小中学生のための補習授業校で、田植えを行います。 補習授業校とは、その名のとおり、補習授業を行っている学校です。 ラオス在住の子供達は、どうしても日本語が疎遠になり、漢字など国語が低下する傾向にあります。 補習授業校で週に３回、インターナショナルスクールの放課後等に２時限ほどの授業を行っています。 今日の田植えの苗は、一週間前に植えた種が芽を出し、既に１５ｃｍ位の苗になっています。 その苗を、一本づつ植えていきます。 日本でも馴染みがない苗の一本植えの田植えです。 日差しが強いので、汗がぽたぽた額から落ちていきます。 田の中に、小魚や蟹がいるので、子供達は田植えのノルマを果たすよりもそちらに気がとられて、親がもっぱら苗を植えている家族もあります。 今後、草取りを３回ほどして秋の収穫を待ちます。 収穫後の餅つきが楽しみです。【Bon appétit !】 幸せ Buddha believed that those who speak and act with a pure mind are sure to experience happiness. ラオスの一本植えの田植え
苗を一本づつ植える田植え↑（2008年6月21日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年6月21日。 今日は、ヴィエンチャンの街から20ｋｍほど北の方向へ来ています。 苗の一本植えの田植えをすると聞いて見に行ってきました。 田んぼの水を落として、地面に格子状に線を引きます。 水を落とすのは、稲の稚苗が、水の下にならないようにすることと、植えた苗が浮いてこないようにすること、植えた後に根をしっかりと活着させるためです。 格子状の線を引くのは、線が交差した所に苗を植えるようにする目印とするためです。 ラオスで普通に行われている田植えは、苗代で大きくした苗を何本も束ねて、適当にどんどん植えていくものです。 一本植えを行っているところはありません。 実験的に植えたところでは、収量が増えたと言う話は聞いていますが、まだ、試行の状態です。 普通の田植えと違い、一本植えはしっかりした水管理が求められます。 一本の苗をたくましい苗に育て上げることによって、普通植えよりも単位面積当たりの収量を増やすことができます。 種をまいてから一週間の苗を一本づつ植えていますので、田植えのあとも、苗が目立たちません。 田植え後の風景は、青々とした風景ではなく、見た目は何とも心もとないものとなっています。【Bon appétit !】 カフカは、1883年7月3日生まれ Despite the fact that he published only a few short works during his lifetime, Kafka is regarded as one of the most influential 20th-century writers. メロンシェーク、対岸はタイ↑（2008年7月1日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年7月1日。 今日の夕飯は、チャーハンを食べることにしました。 私のお気に入りのチャーハンの店がメコン川沿いにあります。 野菜チャーハンを頼みます。 向こう岸にあるタイの家々が夕日を浴びています。 デザートにフルーツシェークを頼むことにしました。 いつもは、私のお気に入りのフルーツシェークの店で飲んでいるのですが、今日はこの店でシェークを頼むことにしました。 以前飲んだこの店のマンゴシェークがとても美味しかったのです。 というわけで、マンゴシェークを頼んだら、今日はないとの事。 メロンならあると言うことで、メロンシェークを頼みました。 美味しい果物がたくさんあるラオスですが、美味しいメロンとはまだ遭遇していません。 今日のメロンシェークは美味しいでしょうか？【Bon appétit !】 金縛り Have you ever had a dream in which you felt frozen or unable to move?
