ラオスの朝市
朝市で鶏の売買が成立↑（2008年3月28日、ルアンパバン） 今は、2008年3月28日。 今日もルアンパバンに来ています。 今朝は、朝市に出かけることにしました。 旧王宮を利用した国立博物館の西側に２５０ｍほどの長さの細い路地があります。 この路地が朝市になっていて、たくさんの店が出ています。 野菜、果物、肉、魚、麺類、乾物、衣類等何でもありの朝市です。 客層は、夜市と大きく異なります。 朝市の客は、地元の人が中心です。 外国人もいますが、見学者と言う感じで、適当にパパイヤなどを買う程度です。 先ほどから、鶏の売買をめぐって、客と店員が交渉しています。 どうやらやっと売買が成立したようです。 店員とお客が一緒になって生きた鶏を竹で編んだかごに詰め込んでいます。【Bon appétit !】 いけにえ Sacrifice, from the Latin word meaning "to make holy," is commonly known as the practice of offering food, or the lives of animals or people, to the gods as an act of propitiation（和解、罪を贖うこと） or worship. ラオスの夜更けの街
夜更けの店舗（左）とレストラン（右）↑（2008年3月25日、ルアンパバン） 今は2008年3月25日。 ナイトマーケットが行われているメインストリートの両脇には、たくさんのお店が並んでいます。 どれもしゃれた感じにしてあります。 レストラン、織物屋、骨董屋、旅行社、インターネット等様々な店があります。 この辺りは、圧倒的に外国人が多く歩いています。 地元の人は数えるほどです。 何となく、ラオスではないような錯覚に陥ります。 レストランはオープンテラスの店が多く、いつまでも西洋人が話をしています。 暗闇の中に、店の明かりが浮かび上がり、ルアンパバンの夜が更けていきます。【Bon appétit !】 脳死者が生き返る？ It sounds like a scene from a horror film: the doctors have declared you dead and are preparing to harvest your organs for transplants; your relatives are standing over your hospital bed saying their goodbyes; and you lie there, alive, silently trapped inside your own body. humble、「知らない英単語はない！」と豪語しましょう
皆さんはどのようにして英単語を覚えていますか？私の英単語を覚える方法は、周りの人に「私には知らない英単語はない！」と豪語することです。この方法、意外と効果的ですよ！ 言葉は言霊（ことだま）。それ自体に魂があります。英単語にも、幸せをもたらす英単語があります。そんな英単語を覚えて、幸せになりましょう。 ３月２９日の幸せをもたらす英単語は、「humble」を取り上げてみました。 “a humble attitude”という使い方はよく見るのではないでしょうか？ 例文としては、 Be humble enough to learn from your mistakes.という使われ方があります。 意味は、 Marked by meekness or modesty in behavior, attitude, or spirit; not arrogant or pridefulあるいは、 Thinking lowly of one's self; claiming little for one's self; not proud, arrogant, or assuming; thinking one's self ill-deserving or unworthy, when judged by the demands of God; lowly; waek; modest.という意味になります。 宇宙を見ていると、humbleになる人が多いのではないでしょうか？【復習】３月１９日の幸せをもたらす英単語は、「prodigal」でした。 例えば、be prodigal with moneyという使い方がありました。 意味は、 too willing to spend money or waste time, energy or materialsでしたね。 幸せになる使い方として、 God’s prodigal merciesという使い方がありました。 思い出していただけましでしょうか？【Bon appétit !】 義足をつけたカメ Allison, a three-year-old Atlantic green sea turtle, was a mere 5-inches long when a group of tourists found her lying wounded and bloody on a beach two years ago. ラオスの夜市
ルアンパバンのメインストリートで開かれるナイトマーケット↑（2008年3月25日、ルアンパバン） 今は、2008年3月25日。 ルアンパバンへ来ました。 ヴィエンチャンからの朝の飛行機は、旅行シーズンにもかかわらずガラガラでした。 飛行機の席が取れないことも良くあるというのに不思議なこともあるものです。 ルアンパバンは夜市（ナイトマーケット）が、観光の目玉になっています。 行ってみて驚きました。 なんと、メインストリートを使って、夜市をやっているのです。 というのは、確かに、一昨年の暮れ頃まではメインストリートで夜市をやっていましたが、昨年の初め頃からは、メインストリートでの夜市はやらなくなっていました。 数本の脇道を使って夜市を開くようになり、メインストリートは通常通り車を通していました。 今日はメインストリートで大規模に夜市が行われています。 お客の数はシーズンなのに少し少ないように感じました。 ４月のラオス正月に合わせて観光客が大挙してやってくるので、その反動で来るのを控えている人が多いのかもしれません。 夜市のお客はほとんどが観光客です。 絹織物、衣類、アクセサリー、骨董品、インテリア等いろいろなものが売られています。 モン族の伝統的なデザインを使用したものが目に付きます。 小さな子供さんが店員さんのこともあります。 店員さんにいろいろ聞きながら買い物をすることが、ここでの楽しみの一つでしょう。【Bon appétit !】 海苔 Nori is the Japanese name for an edible, dried preparation of red algae（藻類）of the genus（属）Porphyra. ラオスの米粉麺
手前がカオピヤックカオというお粥↑向こうの女性が食べているものがカオピヤックセンという米粉麺（2008年3月23日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年3月24日。 今日の昼食は、カオピヤックを食べました。 正式にはカオピヤックセンという米粉から作った麺です。 初めて食べると、腰のないぐにゃぐにゃした麺でこれがおいしいのだろうかと思ってしまいますが、食べるほどに気にいる麺です。 今日は私のお気に入りの店に行って食べました。 実は、このブログでも何度か登場している屋台のお粥屋さんでもカオピヤックは食べることができます。 私は、カオピヤックカオというお粥を頼んでいますが、たまにはカオピヤックセンを食べることもあります。 カオピヤックセンにはあずき色の豆腐のようなものが入っています。 これは、豆腐ではなく、豚の血を固めたものなんです。 食べ始めると病みつきになると聞いていますが、私はいまだに慣れません。 テーブルの上に置かれている、唐辛子、砂糖、魚醤、生姜、ライム汁、胡椒、チリケチャップ等を入れてお好みの味に仕上げます。 揚げパンをちぎって麺やお粥の中に入れて食べると、これがまた美味しいです。 昨日（23日）の朝食を食べに行った屋台で食事をしていた女性は、揚げパンをハサミで切ってカオピヤックセンに入れて食べていました。【Bon appétit !】 鳥が春に啼くのはなぜ？ When birds are exposed to light for longer periods of time, hormonal changes are triggered that lead them to sing. ラオスの異常気象
乾季の雨で水浸しの校庭↑（2008年3月23日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年3月23日。 今朝未明はものすごい雷鳴と豪雨がヴィエンチャンを襲いました。 朝には止みましたが、到る所が水浸しになっています。 朝食にお粥を食べに行く時いつも通る学校の校庭が水浸しになっています。 3月は乾期の最中です。 この時期に雨が降ることは異常だそうです。 実は、21日（金）の未明も豪雨がありました。私は眠っていて気がつかなかったのですが、雷鳴もすごかったようです。 さらに、驚いたのは、18日（火）の15時頃、突然豪雨になったことです。しかも、この時は小石位の雹（ひょう）も降りました。 雹が降ったのは異常ですが、雹はラオスでは全く降らないわけではないそうです。 ある人によれば、7～８年前に降ったことがあるとのことでした。 今年の2月は、異常低温でした。 中国南部に寒気が停滞したようです。 米の生育がかなり遅れているとの話があります。 ヴィエンチャンの場合、例年では、場所によってはそろそろ刈取りが始まりますが、今年は、どうも4月にずれ込むようです。 時期の遅れもさることながら、寒気も影響で、単位面積当たりの収量がどのくらいになるのか興味深いところです。 乾季作の刈取りが遅れれば、雨季作の田植えが遅れるのではないかと今から心配しています。【Bon appétit !】 男女の食性向 The most extensive study of gender differences in eating habits, a telephone survey of 14,000 Americans, has confirmed that men generally eat more meat than women and that women consume more fruits and vegetables. ラオスの踏切り
ラオス国内唯一の踏切↑（2008年3月15日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年3月15日。 ラオスには鉄道がありませんので、踏切はありません。 ところが、今日、自転車で鉄道工事現場に行ってみると、なんと踏切がありました。 道路は未舗装ですが、踏切の前後３０ｍ位は舗装されています。 もうすぐこの踏切の上を列車が走ると思うと嬉しくなります。【Bon appétit !】 アレルギー An allergy is an abnormally high sensitivity to an otherwise harmless foreign substance, or allergen, that leads to an exaggerated response of the natural immune defense mechanism. ラオスの鉄道工事（続き）
線路の終点で線路点検中の2人の作業員↑（2008年3月15日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年3月15日。 タイからの直通列車を受け入れるための鉄道工事が急ピッチ（？）で進められています。 今日は、どこかの高校生の社会科見学でしょうか、バス1台で工事現場の見学に来ています。 作業する人は、汗だくになりながら作業をしています。 重機の運転席や小屋の軒下で横になっている人もいます。 線路の一番奥先まで行ってみました。 地面を掘り下げているので一番奥先は行き止まりです。 作業員が、一生懸命線路の留め金の点検をしています。 留め金の位置を確認し、はずしたりはめ直したりしています。 線路は中国製です。【Bon appétit !】 水は世界的な課題 Humans need clean water to live, yet millions of people in developing countries die every year from diseases associated with unsanitary water. ラオスの鉄道工事
遠くに見える建物がバンコクから来た列車の終着駅↑（2008年3月15日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年3月15日。 今日は、鉄道の建設現場に行ってみることにしました。 ラオスで初めての鉄道がもうすぐ開通します。 正確には初めてではありません。 実は、フランス統治時代にラオス南部にあるコーン島に物資輸送のための総延長６．５ｋｍの鉄道が、第2次大戦の日本軍進駐まであったとのことです。 今でもその時の蒸気機関車が残っているとのことです。 ラオス初めての鉄道は、タイのバンコクから直通でラオス国内に入ることができます。 タイのノンカイからメコン川にかかる友好橋を渡って、ラオス側に入った所が、最初の駅、かつ、当面は終着駅になります。 4月に開通させる予定になっています。 ということですが、今の進捗状況で4月にできるのか少々怪しい処があります。 でも、ラオスの場合は、途中の経過はともかく何となく最後はうまくいくことがありますので、今回の鉄道工事も4月にはうまく行くのでしょう。【Bon appétit !】 太陽の見過ぎで盲目に Officials in India’s Kottayam district have launched a campaign informing people of the dangers of looking directly at the sun, a move that was provoked by recent reports indicating that dozens of Catholics in the region severely damaged their eyesight by staring at the massive star. At least 50 people are now suffering from vision damage and burned retinas（網膜）after straining to see an image of the Virgin Mary that was rumored to be visible in the sky. You need to become fully conversant with the company’s procedures.という使い方がありました。 意味は、 Familiar, as by study or experienceでしたね。【Bon appétit !】 チベットの反乱 The protests that began in Tibet on March 10 - on the anniversary of a failed 1959 uprising（反乱）against Chinese rule - have now spread to neighboring provinces. At least 16 Tibetans have been killed in the violence, and representatives in the region estimate the death toll at nearly 80. The Dalai Lama, exiled leader of the Tibetan people, is calling for international intervention into what he calls a "cultural genocide" in his homeland. China, meanwhile, maintains that it has shown great restraint in the face of violent protests by the Tibetans. The unrest has dealt a sharp blow to Beijing’s preparations for the Summer Olympics, which are set to begin in August.

ラオスの国花
ラオス国花チャンパーの花↑（2008年3月16日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年3月16日。 今朝も朝食はお粥を食べに出かけました。 その帰りに通った学校の庭に、美しい白っぽい花が咲いています。 白と黄色だけの色彩ですが、とても鮮やかにみえます。 この花、至る所に咲いています。 私が住んでいるアパートの塀の所にも、これと同じ美しい白い花を咲かせている木が何本もあります。 この木は、英名を「テンプルツリー」と言うそうです。 仏教国ラオスらしい名前です。 ラオスでは、「チャンパー」と呼ばれています。 ラオスの国花になっています。 別名をプルメリアと言い、ハワイのレイに使われている花と同じ種類だそうです。【Bon appétit !】 ワニは肺を動かして移動 Unlike other stealthy swimmers, alligators lack the fins and flippers（水かき）that help aquatic creatures maneuver in water. Despite the drawbacks（欠点）caused by the absence of such specialized appendages（付属肢、腕、脚、尾など）, these powerful reptiles easily glide through the water in silence. Researchers have determined that alligators manage this feat（偉業、芸当） by utilizing their unique ability to shift the positioning of their lungs within their bodies, thereby adjusting their buoyancy（浮揚性）. The diaphragm（横隔膜）, pelvic（骨盤）, abdominal, and rib muscles work together to force the lungs toward the tail for diving, toward the head for surfacing, and sideways to roll.

ラオスの山焼き
木を切った後に山を焼いて開発等の準備をします↑（２００８年３月１２日、サントン郡、ヴィエンチャン特別市） 今は、２００８年３月１２日。 私がラオスに来てから、昨日（３月１１日）で丸1年が経過しました。 この一年間で、とても気になることの一つは、木が切り倒されて、林地だった所が燃やされている光景によく出会うことです。 木を切り倒したあと、煙がもうもうと空に立ち上り、空全体を覆っている時があります。 木を切り倒したあとを燃やしているのです。 木を切り倒したあとは、ゴムの木を植えたり、プランテーションにしたりしています。 この１年間でゴムの木はかなり増えたような気がします。 以前の立派な森林比べて、ゴムの木はあまりにも貧弱な気がしますがどうなんでしょうか？ ひどい業者は、植林等をすると称して、切り倒した木を売ったまま何処かに姿をくらましてしまうとか…。 無秩序に木を切り倒していたら、水源を失い砂漠化してしまうかもしれません。 生物の多様性が失われることでしょう。 土砂が流出して国土が崩壊することでしょう。 1940年、ラオス国土の７０％、1,700万ヘクタールは森林でおおわれていたとのことです。 カームウアン国土大臣によれば、森林の国土カバー率は年々減少し、現在は３５％まで減少しているとのことです。 最近雨量が減っている傾向にありますが、森林が減っていることと大きな関係があるはずです。 政府の積極的な取り組みを期待すると共に、自分たちでできることを考えていきましょう。 何かできることが必ずあるはずです。【Bon appétit !】 ポール・マッカートニー離婚訴訟 After one of the most bitter and high-profile break-ups in British legal history, ex-Beatle Paul McCartney and his estranged（別居している）wife Heather Mills have nearly reached the end of their two-year divorce battle. ラオスの大豆畑
一面に広がる大豆畑↑（2008年3月12日、サントン郡、ヴィエンチャン特別市） 今は、2008年3月12日。 ヴィエンチャンの西の方を車で走っていたら、大豆が一面に作付けされている畑がありました。 同じ作物が一面に広がっている畑は、トウモロコシ、サトウキビ、珈琲などでは見かけますが、大豆は今まで見たことがありません。 大豆を加工する業者と契約栽培をしていて、集団で作付けをしているのかもしれません。【Bon appétit !】 ベルギー政府ホロコーストに損害賠償 The Belgian government and banks have agreed to pay $170 million to Holocaust survivors, their families, and the Jewish community to compensate Belgian Jews for property that was looted（略奪する）by Nazi occupiers. 成功の反対
私はいま、ラオスに住んでいます。 よくラオスに行く決断をしたねと尋ねられますが、私は、学生時代にバックパッカーをしていたこともありあまり抵抗なくラオスに赴任してきました。 それでも、単身赴任で来ましたので家族との関係、日本でのしがらみ等を考えて、ラオスに赴任するかどうか考えました。 私の行動指針は、「するかしないか迷ったら、する方を選ぶ」と言うものです。 どちらにするか迷うということは、「両者に決定的な違いはない」ということですので、「する方を選ぶ」という選択肢になります。 両者に大きな違いがあれば、迷いませんよね？ さて、「成功の反対」は、何でしょうか？ 国語的には「失敗」です。 ある人は、「成功の反対」は「何もしないこと」だと言っています。 名言ですねぇ。 （余談ですが、この言葉、「好きの反対は無関心」に似てるとおもいませんか？） 一方、「果報は寝て待て」という言葉もあります。 「待てば海路の日和あり」なんて言葉もありますね。 私は、「迷ったらする方を選ぶ」と書きましたが、その奥には、「自分に起こることには全て意味がある」という想いがあります。 見えざる力、のようなものでしょうか？ 岡本太郎が、著書「強く生きる言葉」の中で、次のように言っています。 「挑戦した上での不成功者と、挑戦を避けたままの不成功者とではまったく天地のへだたりがある。」強く生きる言葉【Bon appétit !】 教育と寿命 A recent study of US adults has shown that those who are better educated have a greater life expectancy than those who are less educated. In 2000, 25 year olds who had received some college education were assigned a life expectancy of 82 years; less-educated people were only expected to live to be 75. Researchers attribute much of the disparity to the fact that people who are less educated are likely to have lower incomes, have less access to health insurance, and live in crime-ridden（支配された、悩まされた）neighborhoods and under poor housing conditions. At the same time, well-educated people have greater access to information about disease and medical advances.

家の裏庭で設置作業中の炭焼き窯↑（2008年3月12日、サントン郡、ビエンチャン特別市） 今は、2008年3月12日。 ヴィエンチャンの西に６０ｋｍにあるサントン郡を歩いていたら、裏庭に炭焼き窯を作っている家がありました。 この辺り、どの家庭でも自家用の木炭を作っているようです。 窯の構造は、地面に穴を掘る構造になっています。 地面にたて穴を3つ掘ります。 3つの縦穴は、地下１ｍ位の所で、横穴で繋がっています。 一番目の縦穴は、火を燃やす場所です。 2番目の縦穴は、木炭になる木を立てる場所です。 3番目の縦穴は、煙が出てくる穴で、煙突の役割を果たします。 2番目の縦穴に木炭にする木を立て掛けたら、穴の上に竹でやぐらを組んで、土を塗り固めて密閉し、窯にします。 自家消費の炭とは別に、商業的に木炭を焼いている業者も存在します。 備長炭として日本に輸出されているものがかなりあるという話です。 ラオスには備長炭になるようなとても良い木が豊富にありますが、森の再生産ができるように、計画的に木を切ってほしいものです。【送料無料】炭の猫砂 お徳用 7L 4袋セット人気No1猫砂でおなじみ♪リピーター続出で10，00...【Bon appétit !】 血清 Antivenin（蛇毒血清）is a biological material used to neutralize the venom（毒）of poisonous creatures like snakes, scorpions, spiders, and other insects. ラオスの竹炭
火を入れて1時間ほどたった新しい窯↑（2008年3月12日、サントン郡、ヴィエンチャン特別市） 今は、2008年3月12日。 今日は、ヴィエンチャンの西６０ｋｍの所にあるサントン郡ピアラット村へ行きました。 田んぼの稲が青々と茂っていましたが、まだ刈り取りまでは時間がかかりそうです。 ２月が寒かったので、例年より生育が遅れているようです。 ピアラット村で、竹炭を実験的に生産している現場がありました。 なんと、日本人が技術指導をしていました。 丁度、今朝新しい窯が出来上がり火を入れたところです。 窯は、ドラム缶を横に倒して、その周りを土で固めたものです。 入口の所から次々と火をくべて、竹が自燃するのを待ちます。 長い煙突からはまだ真っ白な煙が出ている状況で、竹が自燃するまでにはまだ１時間以上かかりそうです。 夕方には密閉して、明日一日そのままにして、明後日窯から炭を取り出すとのことでした。 煙突の所から、竹酢液が流れおちてきています。 一村一品のようになることを期待しているようですが、竹の炭をどう活用するかはこれからの課題です。 竹酢液の活用と合わせて、うまく展開できればいいですね。ワンコインの最高級竹炭・安心の竹酢液・炭せっけんお試しセット【Bon appétit !】 アルコール中毒 Delirium tremens（震顫譫妄）, known colloquially as the DTs, is an acute, sometimes fatal episode of delirium（一時的精神錯乱）generally caused by alcohol withdrawal following habitual excessive drinking. ラオスの宝くじ
軍隊がお金集めのために発行した宝くじ↑（2008年1月9日） 歩道に一人用のテーブルを出して、そこで何ら紙きれのようなものを売っている光景をよく目にします。 宝くじを売っているのだそうです。 月に何回か売り出す日があるようで、その日には、歩道上に軒並み宝くじ売り場ができあがります。 宝くじ売り場では、たくさんのお金が動くのでしょうが、防犯面の対策は全く取られていません。 そこら辺にある屋台でおかずを売っているのと同じ様な感覚で宝くじを売っている感じがします。 安全な国と言うことなのでしょう。 軍隊の資金集めのための宝くじを買ってほしいと知人に頼まれたので購入しました。 もう発表になっているはずですが、当選番号がわからないのであたっているかどうかもわかりません。 宝くじに関しては仕組み等に関してもう少し勉強が必要です。【Bon appétit !】 処方薬が飲料水の中で見つかる Scientists have detected low levels of a range of prescription drugs in the water supplies of 24 major metropolitan areas in the US. ラオスの典型的な食事
ラープ・ングア（左上）とケーン・ングア（右）↑（2007年12月4日、ビエンチャン） 典型的なラオスの食事は何でしょうか？ たくさんあって、決め難いですが、最もラオス人が食べているものといえば、ラープでしょう。 見た目はあまりおいしそうではなく、味もどこで食べても似たりよったりですが、時として、ものすごく美味しいラープに巡り合います。 ラープとは、肉や魚に、香草、レモングラスやライム汁を混ぜて炒めたものです。 肉や魚はかなり細かくすることが普通ですが、少し大きめに刻むこともあります。 大きめに刻む場合はラープとは呼ばずにコイと呼ぶことがあります。 また、肉が生肉に近い状態のままのこともあります。 特に牛肉のラープ（ラープ・ングア）は、レアの牛肉を刻んだものを頼むことがよくあります。 ラープに、スープ（ラオスではケーンと呼びます）とおこわ（ラオスではカオニャオと呼びます）を頼んで、典型的なラオスの食事の出来上がりです。【Bon appétit !】 バービー人形 When Ruth Handler, wife of Mattel toy company co-founder Elliot Handler, realized that there were no adult-bodied dolls on the toy market, she suggested to her husband that Mattel begin producing one. ラオスの用水路

ラオスのビアラオ
メコン川沿いの屋台で頼んだビアラオ↑（2008年3月5日、ヴィエンチャン） ラオスのビールと言えばビアラオです。 どこへ行ってもビアラオです。 明るい色の軽めのビールです。 ラオス人はこれに氷を入れて飲みます。 ぬるいビールでも冷たくなります。 難点はビールが薄まることです。 道端で売っているファンタやミリンダを頼むと、ビニル袋に氷を入れ、その中に飲み物を入れ、ストローをさしてくれます。 一瞬で冷たい飲み物が出来上がります。 たくさんの人が、ビニル袋を口のとこまで手で持ち上げて、そこから突き出たストローを口にくわえながら歩いています。 氷を使うこの方法は、冷蔵庫がなくても冷たい飲み物が飲めるすぐれものです。【Bon appétit !】 朝食を抜く人は太る While many teens skip breakfast in order to cut calories and lose weight, those who opt not to eat the morning meal weigh an average of 5 lb (2.3 kg) more than teens who consume a healthy breakfast. ラオスのカエル
メコン川沿いのレストランで頼んだカエル↑（2008年3月5日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年3月5日。 一ヶ月半ほどラオスにいた知人が、明日日本に帰ります。 と言うわけで（はありませんが）、メコン川沿いの屋台へ夕飯を食べに行きました。 あちこちで、道端で炭火をおこし、魚や肉等を焼いてます。 屋台とは言っても、道端にたくさんのテーブルが用意されていて、そこで食べることができます。 我々は、テーブル席ではなく、ござが引いてあって、寝転がることができるところで食べることにしました。 丁度夕陽が沈むころで、メコン川と夕陽を横になって眺めながら、先ずはビールで乾杯をします。 贅沢な時が流れていきます。 お店の人が注文を取りに来ました。 魚、海老を焼いてもらうことにしました。 せっかくですので、カエルも焼いてもらうことにしました。 さらに、孵化直前の玉子も頼むことにしました。【Bon appétit !】 ボストン虐殺事件 Many Bostonians resented（憤慨する）the heavy British military presence in their city during the late 1700s, and the soldiers' enforcement（施行、強要）of the unpopular Townshend Acts merely exacerbated（悪化させる）the tense situation. ラオスの黄金の塔
タートルアン祭りでお祈りをする人々↑（2007年１１月２４日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年3月４日。 今日のお昼は、タートルアン（黄金の塔）の前にあるレストランへ行きました。 ラオス人5人、日本人2人で行きました。 ラオス人の客が大半ですが、場所がら、外国人も来るので、少しだけこぎれいな作りのレストランです。 タートルアンの前は広い広場になっています。 天安門広場ほど（？）の広さがありそうです。 毎週休みの日には、オーガニック野菜の市場がたっています。 また、祭りの時は、たくさんの出店や移動遊園地が来ます。 注目は、この広場に移動図書館が来ることです。 本屋さんがほとんどないラオスでは、本を読む機会がありません。 日本のNGOがこの貴重な機会を提供しています。 多くのラオス人が本を読みに集まってきます。【Bon appétit !】 共感覚 Synesthesia（共感覚）is a condition in which one type of sensory（感覚に関する）stimulus（刺激）evokes（呼び起こす）sensations associated with a different sense, as when hearing a sound stimulates the visualization of a color. ラオスの竹
絹織物工房の庭に植わっている竹（2007年9月29日、ヴィエンチャン） 竹はラオスのどこに行っても見かけます。 種類もいろいろあるようです。 市場に行けば、様々な種類の筍を見かけます。 レストランに行けば、筍のスープ、筍の辛いスープ、筍の辛いスープココナッツ入り、シナ竹のように煮たおかず、筍の煮物、筍と肉の煮物等々いろいろな種類の筍料理を食べることができます。 また、竹から作ったカゴやザル、おひつは日常的に使われています。 壁が竹で作られている家も良く見かけます。 竹の世界は奥が深そうなラオスです。【Bon appétit !】 人種によって異なる免疫機構の遺伝子 A study comparing the genetics of Caucasians from the US and Nigerians has shown a significant difference between the groups, especially in genes involved in producing antibodies（抗体）to combat bacterial infection（感染）. ラオスのフランス料理店
お気に入りのフランス料理店で出てきた料理↑（2008年2月24日、ヴィエンチャン） 今は、2008年2月24日。 ヴィエンチャンにはフランス料理店が何軒もあり、たいていは高級料理店に位置付けられています。 客層は、ほとんどが外人ですが、店によってはラオス人も見かけます。 味は、様々で、必ずしも美味しいとは限りません。 某フランス料理店はいつ行ってもたくさんの人で賑わっていますが、私の口に合いません。 また、それほどおいしいとは思いませんが、官庁街にありその立地故に客が多いところもあります。 フランス料理なんだかラオス料理なんだかわからないようなフランス料理店もあります。 現在、家族4人全員が一年ぶりにヴィエンチャンに集まっています。 昨年の3月26日に家族全員がヴィエンチャンに集まって以来のことです。 今日は、私が最も気に入っているフランス料理店に行くことにします。 料理の味も店の雰囲気も申し分ない店です。 家族はこのレストランとは今まで縁がなく、過去に2回挑戦していますが一回目は満席で入れず、2回目はその４ヶ月後ですが、改装中で入れませんでした、 家族にとっては、今日は3回目の挑戦です。 今日は、念願かなって入ることができました。【Bon appétit !】 Yahoo In 1994, two Stanford PhD candidates began indexing interesting websites as a hobby. “Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web” launched as Yahoo! in 1995, and it has since grown to become the largest information portal on the Web.
