within the memory of Tom ↑は文語的な言い方ですが、 トムの記憶の範囲内では⇒トムが覚えている限り、⇒ トムが知っている限り、 となり、This kind of thing never happened within the memory of Tom. What impressed me was the great hospitality of my host family. 【Ken's Office】

★ Tue. July 25th This day is the 8th anniversary of "Day of Kusano".This day eight years ago, I had to part with a lady namedKusano-san, a then student-nurse.She's was born and brought up here in Shakano(目尾),Iizuka, and when I was teaching her English, she livedin Yoshizuka, Fukuoka. I used to visit her apartment and teach her English ensuthiastically on Sundays. On the other hand, she used to take my lessonsvery earnestly. Both of us enjoyed English, but we came to havea certain misunderstanding between us and then our relationship ended.I have greatly regretted this parting since then.If I hadn't put an end to the relationship with her, probably I would've been able to date her and possiblymarry her. This accident has given me lots of lessons.-------------------------------------------------【Ken's Office】

We have to keep Lake Biwa free from pollution. 応用しましょう: 娘さんがいるお父さんのセリフ: 「娘に変な虫がつかんごとせないけん」 ⇒I have to keep my daughter free from any srange guy. ですね 【Ken's Office】

This past week I was very busy in translating over 50 smallarticles about Taiwanese businesses and their products onthe Internet. From next month on, I am going to share this translation workwith my disciples.Next week I have to focus on two types oftranslation: English business documents and Japanese short story.-------------------------------------------------------BTW, for these years, I have got a problem:That is, I have got to separate translation/interpretation workfrom sales promotional activity just like an enterprise which manufactureits products on the one hand and distribute & sell them on the otherhand. As you know, I have over 300 companies as my business customers.Dealing with so many companies, I sometimes feel I have to controlthem very well or make them aware of me so that they will keep placingorders of translation to me. That's why I send them free-of-charge emailsof English lecture regularly. But controlling as many as 300 companies isa really tough thing, and so I feel like visiting them regularly forhaving business discussion or exchanging information. When I worked for a trading firm say 昭和貿易 or 天彦産業,I was responsible for marketing and selling imported itemsand so I was a business promotional person(営業マン) as well asI was in charge of importing(輸入担当).When I was a business promotional person, business discussionor business information exchange with my customers, or evenhanging out together with them always directly led to my sales achievements.I mean that I was able to talk them into buying our products or givingus orders of our products while having a business discussion orbeing around them. When I received their order, I arranged the shipment of the productsand shipped them to the customer. Later I just had to collect theirpayment without fail.On the contrary, when I have business discussion or businessinfo-exchange with my customers and then I receive their order,I have to have another process by myself to receive their payment. That is, I have to translate their documents or interpret their meetingwith a foreign company. To me, the translation work is just like manufacturing products. So, I have to have double work: business promotional activity andmanufacturing (translation work). So, it takes me at least double timeto finish the process from business discussion to receipt of their payment.Something must be done to make my business more efficient.Basically I would like to do anything I could to promote my business.I want to be a great ninja 獅子王院 who is described as an almightly ninja.I want to be an almightly, but sometimes I feel a certain limitation aboutit.----------------------------------------------------Ken

◎Sunday, July 16thAs I had expected, Ms. Hatakeyama, who had been arrestedfor murdering a boy in her neighborhood, finallyconfessed that she pushed her own daughteroff from the bridge. She reportedly didn't good jobs as the motherof the daughter. For example, she allegedlydidn't cook for her daughter. She also feltno love toward her own daughter. In a TV interview with her neighbors and ex-husband,she reportedly felt her daughter as an obstacle to enjoy her life.Ms. Hatakeyama is just one of them. These days, the number of these mothers orfathers like her has been increasing, I think. Most of them reportedly or seemingly don'thave any love or affection toward their children. In such a case, they shouldn't have sexed orthey should have used any contraceptive devicewithout fail. They just pursued the sexual pleasure. To be honest, I like sex very much.Probably so do those who are married.Whenever I have a steady girlfriend,I very often enjoy make-love.It's the best form of mutual communication, I believe.I also have to be careful about contraception,as the case may be.If we have a child, we ought to take a wide range of heavy responsibilities to nurse, grow, educate andenlighten our own child. This is the principle we have to follow when we becomeparents.Hatakeyama and other similar parents are far beyond my understanding.---------------------------------------------Ken

This day we had a regular meeting of Iizuka ToastmastersClub. I was supposed to make a speech this day.It was the 6th speech for me.I talked about the importance of different perspectives:A Pinch is a Good Chance to Turn Things Better. Please surf to my 楽天 welbog and you will find my draft.I showed two samples of self-defense techniquesas a good example that a pinch is a good chance.BTW, I always have one worry about this club. When I join the club, I feel somewhat a little nervousabout something,.I just pray that things will be better for me. You can call me Ken without any hesitation.I have several nicknames. One of them is Fuku-chan. My judo mates began tocall me 福助 after the corporate figure of 福助株式会社,a famous 足袋 manufacture. They thought I looked like this figure. Then, 福助 was changed into 福ちゃん.So my high school friends call me 福ちゃん.My old students called me 福ちゃん.You also can call me 福ちゃん.I use several handle names in mixi and sometimeschange handle names from Ken to Niten(二天),from 二天 to 福ちゃん,etc.----------------------------------------KEN

Do You Really Know:A PINCH IS A GOOD CHANCE (thru Self-Defense Technique)?Ladies and Gentlemen, I am very pleased to be here as the final speaker today. The rainy season will end in about 10 days or so, and if it ends, you will aggressively go out for beaches or mountains or for other leisure activities or shopping, etc.A great number of people will do so, and so will I.At the same time, you might have a lot of risks of being a target of ruffians,if you go outside so often for the purpose of enjoying the summer.Today, taking this opportunity, I would like to show you some self-defense techniques so that you can survive any dangerous situation you might encounter on the street.Through my demonstration, I also want you to consider that a pinch is actually a good opportunity to get things going better for you.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Guys, please imagine:SITUATION #1Suppose you are now walking along the street. Then, suddenly a strange guy shows up before you, and holds you by your head,Shouting for some money. You cannot move out of his strong holding. What would you do???The solution is very simple:1) Just wind your arm over his arm like this 2) Move your arm downward. So the stranger’s shoulder and/or elbow is locked with a great pain, or you can break his joints as a lawful self-defense. Then, you can run away from him.--------------------------------------------------When the stranger holds you by your head, you may consider you are in a pinch or critical situation, but this situation is a good chance to control him.Because his arm, which hold your head, is now completely fixed as a target of this submission hold.So if you change your viewpoint, the situation will turn advantageous to you.SITUATION #2Suppose you are now walking along the street. Then, suddenly a strange guy shows up behind you and suddenly he clings up to you from the behind for the purse of sexual assault. If you are involved in this situation, probably all of you will be in panic and lose yourself in how to get out of this dangerous situation. But don’t worry!!Don’t be panic!! There is a very simple and unique way to get out of this situation.1) Bend yourself down.2) Hold his foot3) Unbend yourself, holing the foot.4) The attacker will fall down harshly on the street. And you can run away from him in this moment.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This is a demonstration of self-defense technique, but not only that. All what I want to tell you through this demonstration is that if you change yourViewpoint, the dangerous situation or a pinch is a good chance for you to have a breakthrough. Situation itself doesn’t remain ADVANTAGEOUS or DISADVANTAGEOUS.It is your perspective that matters when you try to handle the situation successfully. For this purpose, we have to have our perspective very flexible enough.Next time I have a chance to make a speech, I will show you more detailed examples.Ken Suetsugu

◎Friday July 13thThis day, I held a seminar at SOHO Support Center in Ten'jin. It was 2 hour-long seminar.A total of four people joined this session.I started this seminar with 詰め将棋 in order to grasphow well they can play shogi. There are so many smart strategies and tactics insolving These strategies are also helpfuland useful in our life. When you try to solve 詰め将棋, you have to thinkthings (on how to checkmate the king) from really differentviewpoints, not only from one viewpoint. So 詰め将棋 makes our perspective very flexible. Then, I moved on to the main theme of today. When we struggle with things, say our business orplanning or whatsoever, we have to focus on themain purpose or main development, not on trifledetails. There are so many people who tend toworry about trial details(枝葉末節) and lose theirmain purpose. But we have to concentrate onlyon the main purpose to have a success out ofthings. I showed this principle, playing shogi with them.-----------------------------------------KEN

◎July 10th--12thI've been tremendously busy in translation oftechnical documents.Recently I've got four new students. All of them are highly motivated and so I'mvery happy and proud to spend time togetherin learning English with them.On July 12th, Thursday, I went to Fukuoka Cityto meet one of my deshis.I am going to introduce as many interpretingjobs as possible to her. Then, today I took her to two corporatecustomers of mine to introduce her to them.I've been feeling a little sorry for her, becauseI was so late in arranging things for her, even thoughI promised her to introduce her to my customersas a new interpreter before the Golden Week. Then, I will take her to Foreign Consulates in Fukuokato introduce her as an interpreter sometime soon in the future.KEN

◎ Sunday, July 9th:As I told you in my previous e-mails for your mobile phones, one of my GREAT part-timers, named Chie at last gave a birthto a boy.She reported the birth to me the other day.She named the boy ”秦太(Kanata)” after music according toher report. This kanji, 秦 has something to do with music. This word originally comes from China, meaning musical performance.太 means "tough". The parents wish that the boy will have a great lifewith a tough spirit.Chie and her husband are punk experts and so they named theirbaby 奏太, wishing his great life.I was very pleased and happy to hear the birth.Actually, when I am lucky to get married with someone in the futureand have a baby later, I will surely name her 知恵子 after Chie.If I have at least three daughters, I would like to name them知恵子、美穂子、and 安寿香 respectively. They are unforgettable and greatest ladies I ever met.

◎Saturday, July 8thThis day, I was supposed to have the first shogi lesson with a boynamed 伊藤君. Ito-kun goes to イギス Grade School at which two ofmy students work as teachers.Ito-kun is a 4th grader. He decided to take my shogi course officiallyafter taking my trial lesson. Then, this day I gave him the first official shogi lesson. He doesn't know completely how to talk to people in a politeway of speech. So, I will have to teach him strictly to be a politeperson in the future. This day, I used the Internet and let him play shogi withunknown shogi players who live in different places in Japan.Since I taught him how to use a certain tricky strategy, called 筋違い角戦法 last time, I made him take this strategywhile he was playing against unknown players.I gave him lots of tactical advice sitting beside him.Unfortunately, however, he lost two games. Each of his opponents took unexpected movesduring the game and Ito-kun didn't deal with such movescorrectly.Next shogi lesson will be held in August, because from thenext week on, he will be very busy in joining local summeractivities. This summer, especially in August, I will teach him how to winShogi games, how to think things positively and how to makea successful development of things.-----------------------------------------------------

As you might know, I respect ninja. They had to be good at speaking different dialects, reading lips and mind, rapid reading & memorizing information at the first glance, etc. Needless to say, they had to have excellent physical capabilities just like Olympic athletes. We, interpreters also have to obtain the same intellectual capabilities as they did. I would like to be a current version of ninja as an interpreter.[Ken]

Do you know that we are basically classified into three types of people??For example, if you're an athlete, another guy is a watcher and the other guy is a critic who says whatever he wants about the peformance with ease and with no binding responsibility The athlete has to have a very hard job to do. Because he has to achieve something. The watcher just watches the athlete performing. The critic is just like doing sumo with the athlete's pants on. I don't want to be such a critic. I hate such a person. I want to keep myself as an athlete who always try something new.[ken]

◎ Monday, July 3rd.In the afternoon, this day, I went to 青葉中学校 in Higashi-Ward,Fukuoka City.I was supposed to make a pair of a Russian lecturer and teach Russian Culture to its students. The lecturer introduced general cultures, local songs, children's playand other traditional items. On the other hand, I introduced sambo to the students, showing some of the submission holds to them. What makes sambo unique and different from judo and otherstyles of wrestling is Achilles tendon hold(アキレス腱固め).The origin of sambo is the culture of nomadic people. For nomadic people, the disability to move to other place means death. If you are nomadic with your foot injured and cannot move to otherplace, you have to stay at the same place until you die. That's why they developed many techniques to try to killor damage the lower limbs or the ability to move to other place. The details of my talk will be forwarded to you later.----------------------------------------------★ Good News:I have a good new to tell you.I've got a student who is going to take my shogi course. He is the first student in shogi,He's a 4th grader at a local elementary school.I will team him lots of skills and ways of thinking abouthow to have a good life through shogi.

◎Sunday, July 2nd. This day I had two English lessons in the morning:Mr. Grade School Teacher and M-kun. In the lesson with the sensei, we practiced how toexpress things in English using a social study text book.In the lesson with M-kun, we practiced togetherthe pronunciation of English words.M-kun is the same age as Hiromi-chan.They are now exchanging e-mails.Since either of them has no steady date,I wanted to give them a good opportunity tocome to know each other. On July 22nd, Saturday, M-kun, Hiromi-chan and I are going for a drink together for deepeningmutual friendship.M-kun is cool and good looking I think. He also has a good personality. So I hope Hiromi chan will fall in love with him.In the afternoon, I canceled the seminar due tothe pain in the foot and took a calm rest to reduce the symptoms of gout.I had a big reason to reduce the pain.

◎ Saturday July 1st, 2006This day is the first day of the second half of 2006.I reviewed what I have done in the first half of 2006and am now correcting some parts of my life and work.◎What I achieved in the first half of 2006 include:1) Worked as a translator for 2006 World Female and Sport Conference.2) 14 companies were newly added to the list of my customers.3) I took some students of mine to Kyoto for their English practice. (I am going to take some of them again to Kyoto this fall again.)4) I started to work as a volunteer to introduce cultural differences between Japan and other countries to school students.5) I started various kinds of seminars on Sundays.6) I started Shogi Course for adults and children.7) I have been shifting my main business activity from 翻訳 into 通訳.◎What I failed to achieve in the first half:1) To hold in-house English & Logical Japanese seminars at corporate customers. Plus, to hold in-house seminars about logical thinking and self-defense skills.2) To work for such customers as English communication consultant.---------------------------------------------------------------------[Good News]I've got some good news:1) One of my part-timers, named Chieko, gave birth to a boy. She had her baby on June 25th. I've been very pleased to hear this news. Chie is one of the most charming and wonderful ladies I have ever met and so she and her husband will surely build a good family.2) I have found lots of hints about life and work through the TV drama, titled I am going to put some of them in action soon. I used to watch it at the age of 13 or 14. Now, while watching the drama, I've found lots of indications I hadn't found when I was a student or come to understand more deeply about them. By the way, do you know this actress: Miyuki ONO? She plays a role of female spy for 徳川. She is really charming. This is one of the things I missed at the age of 13 or 14.--------------------------------------------------------------------【Ken's Office】
