mixiについて
しばらくmixiをしていましたが、あんまり面白みも感じないので、退会しました。その主たる理由は、1)あるの人(弟子)のmy mixiに成れなかった事です。 私の立場からの判断で言いますと、 それはちょっと失礼と言う感じがしています。 my mixiになる事で、英語の学習にプラスになる事を 実施する狙いがありましたが、ハナから理解されない様で がっくりきました。 良心的に、学習効果を高める狙いがありましたが、誤解されている様で 嫌になりました。★勿論、本人は若すぎて、私の意図が理解できないので しょうがないですね。責めているわけではありません。マイナーな理由として１）日記を気楽に書き込みをしているのに 極めて真面目にコメントされて嫌になります。 ★コメントしていただく事は大変ありがたいと思いますが、 感謝して折りますが、状況というものが御座います ご自身は実際に行動をせず、人の事に首を突っ込む様な方は 好きではありません。これは大変に迷惑な事です。２）友人や同志との交流が出来るかもしれませんが 所詮は、ネット上での事。限りなく仮想現実に近いのではと そして、仲間内のおままごととさして代わりがない、と思うためです。３）全然知らない奴から覗かれる為で、気持ちが悪いこともあります。いずれ、また別の形で復帰するかもしれませんが今は、これをすべきでなかったと思いますお客様からの紹介を頂いてmixiをしておりましたが、実は、開始後一週間で、自分にはあまりメリットがない事を感じていました。【Ken's Office】

元生徒との遭遇
展示会に向かうバス車中で、出展者リストを見ていると、ハッとした！！出展者の中に、私の元生徒の方がいらっしゃるではないか？その方は、私と同様、プレゼンテーションをした。６年位前まで教えていたが、外見など特に変わっていなかった。展示会では、プレゼンで顔をあわせたが特に言葉を交わすこともなかった。でも元気そうで良かった。この人の事を以前好きであった。良く一緒にご飯を食べに言ったものであった。【Ken’s Office】

◎ Monday, Aug. 21st This day I had an English lesson with a young female at 10:00.She joined the seminar yesterday.She told to me that I clearly showed a certain fact about meand then I felt I was flushed.This day I was very busy with my work.Besides, I had to go to a bike shop to get my motor bikefixed. I had a flat tire two days ago when I was riding the bike.I also had to clean my apartment and wash clothes.By the way, as some of you may know, I had a lunch datewith a lady working in Fukuoka last week.After I came home, I sent her a thanks e-mail and alsoproposed her, saying "If you don't mind, why don't we havesome beer or liquor next Friday when I need to Fukuoka Cityagain to join a business show at Acros Fukuoka?"No reply from her yet now.I shouldn't have been in a hurry to ask this kind of thing to her.Ken Suetsuguーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

◎ Sunday, Aug. 20th Every Sunday morning, I have an English lesson witha local elementary school teacher.The lesson starts at nine in the morning.But this day, the lesson is cancelled due to hiswork. So I got up at 10 a.m. this day.After getting up, I was busy in preparing forthis day's seminar.This day I planed to have an English seminarfocusing on 二刀流通翻訳術 and Plain English.Plain English is my style and bag.I had an about three-hour-long seminar this day,introducing how to express things with plain verbs.After this seminar, I had an English lesson with a deshi of minefrom five to six.Then, I had a dinner with her.This was what I was most looking forward to.The deshi and I went to 串かつや in 新飯塚.------------------------------------------------------【Ken's Office】

★お知らせ★１） 明日は、イイヅカトーストマスターズクラブの会です １４：３０～１６：３０までです。筑豊地区の方は極力ご参加ください。ゲストの方は、無償で参加できます。明日は、私はスピーチをしませんが、一つコーナーを担当します。ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー２）日曜日は二刀流のセミナーをします。 平易な言い回しで色々な事を表現する稽古をします。 これは、PLAIN ENGLISHの流儀ともいえるでしょう。 多くの受講者の方が参加してくださいますと 大変ありがたいです。サンアビリティイイヅカで １４時～１７時まで行います。ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー さて、英語の稽古ですが、数年前に、I have a good idea. から色々と表現を応用させました。その中で、I have a good dictionary for you.「君向けにうってつけの辞書があるよ」という様な言い方をご紹介いたしました。 "have a good --- for人・もの" で、（人・もの）にうってつけの、（お勧めの）--を持っている となります。もっと日本語らしく言いますと、「～がお勧めです」という意味になります。ちょっと、即興で例を作りますと： I have a good shop for you.「（買い物をしたいという相手に）良いお店があるよ」と言う事ですね。これは、recommend と同じ意味になります。 (来店したお客さんに)We have a good product for you.「お客様にピッタリの商品が御座います」 We have a good size for you.「丁度良いサイズが御座います」 We have a good plan for your trip「お客様のご旅行にピッタリのプランがあります」 飲食店のでしたら、お客さんにWe have good wine for you today.と言えば「今日は、良いワインを入れているよ」となります。 人材派遣会社の社長さんがクライアントにWe have good specialists for you.「貴社に相応しい専門家がおります」などと色々と言えます。ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー 次に、I have--- という形でなく、★モノ have という形を練習します。 例えば、「うちはね、６部屋あるんだ」と言う場合、there are six rooms in my house. という人が多いのですが、My house has six rooms. の方が私は良いと思います。それは、通じる英語の形になっているからです。「通じる英語の形」とは、S ＋ V ＋ O 主語 動詞 目的語 ですね。この形がリズムある英語、外国人にピンとくる英語を生み出します。 「この本は、１２０ページあります。」は、This book has 120 pages.ですね。 「作家の田中氏の今回の小説は、５００ページに及ぶ 大作です。」Mr. Tanaka's new novel is a big story.The book has 500 pages. となります。 私は、良く授業で、お金を使って英語を話す練習をします。 ◎例えば、 「千円札には夏目漱石の絵が描かれてます」などを 言って、それを英語で言って貰います。 「千円札には、夏目漱石の絵が描かれております」One thousand yen bill has a picture(portrait) of Natsume Soseki on it. 「千円札には、日銀の赤いはんこがおされています」One thousand yen bill has a red stamp of Bank of Japan on it. 「千円札には、（千円）と漢字で書かれてます」などOne thousand yen bill has two kanjis meaning 1,000 yen on it. となります。 此処で大切なことは、２つあります。１）on it を付けないと、絵が描かれているなどの意味が出ません。 on it ： it は、千円札（one thousand yen bill）の事です。 on は、～の上に、と言う事ですので、お札の上に、と言う事ですね。 つまり、「千円は、自分の上に絵を持っています」と言う言い方にします。 ２） 「千円札には、絵がかかれています」、という場合、受け身の形を使って 言いがちですが、千円を主語にしたら、上の様に言えます。 「千円は、自分の上に絵を持っている」という言い方の方が楽だと思います。 ★ この形を活かして、応用しましょう。 「（私宛に）田中さんから手紙が来ているよ」I have a letter from Mr. Tanaka. 「手紙には、きれいな切手が２枚貼ってあります」The letter has two charming stamps on it. 貼ってある切手は、手紙の上に張ってありますのでon it(the letter)という言い方となり、これを上記の様に言います。 「手紙には、切手が数枚同封されてます」The letter has some charming stamps in it.同封とは、中に入っておりますので、in it (the letter) となります。 ご質問は、何なりとされて下さいませ。 【Ken's Office】

この８月・９月は、大学生の弟子に稽古をつけているが、この日の授業中に、ウトウトとしやがった！一対一の授業で、初めてのことだったので、これにはびっくりした、というか私には屈辱で、この後、尾を引くかもしれません。【Ken's Office】

LUNCH
Guys, how have you spent obon holidays ??As for me, good and/or bad things have come and goone after another.The good things includes the today's lunchwith a charming lady called Kaori-san, as I mentionedin my mixi diary.Today I met her and enjoyed a lunch together.She's so full of humor and charm that I would like tokeep our relationship with her much closer.As I also implied in my mixi diary,however,I feel one problem about this matter.Those who are not my-mixi-friends cannotunderstand this.Please forgive me.Anyway, I would like to deepen the relationshipwith her as much as I can.I came home around 3:00 p.m.Then, I took a rest until I started to preparesales promotional documents designed forAugust. 25th business show to be held at Across Fukuoka.All the students of mine are highly welcomed at the show.I am going to make a presentation on several new serviceswhich I will start soon.I will make my presentation the most impressive just likeI did before. 再帰代名詞の使い道
最近の授業を踏まえての講義です。ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーKen:「小倉まで車で行くと？1時間は見た方が良いバイ！」 これをどう言うでしょうか？時間があるので、take を使いますか？It'll take you one hour to get there. でも良いですね。ですが、所要時間として、1時間は見た方が良い、という場合はYou'd better give yourself one hour. でも良いですねyourselfやmyselfなどは再帰代名詞と言いますが、動詞との組み合わせで色々な言い方、英語にしにくい言い方をサッと英語で言う技術に結実します。ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー１）「独学」：私は独学で英語を勉強した。I taught myself English. ですね料理を独学で学んだ、でしたら、I taught myself cooking. ですねI trained myself in cooking.色々と使えると思います。２）全部言ってご覧よ。 気持ちがすっきりしますよConfess everything.You'll give yourself peace. と言います３）自分を責めるDon't punish yourself so hard. ですね「そんなに自分を責めるなよ！」以上は、ごく一例に過ぎませんが、便利な表現ですから、ご参照ください。ご質問は何なりとどうぞ。ken

◎I need a minute to practice.の応用
最近の授業を踏まえての講義です１） I need a minute to practice. 「練習時間がいるよ」これは、使い勝手があり、応用が利きます。a minute の箇所に時間の表現が入ります。I need one week to practice. 一週間は練習しないとI need a whole month to study about it.丸々ひと月は勉強しないとスポーツの練習でよく言われることですが、「1日休んだら、それを取り戻すのに3日掛る」というのも上の表現でいえます★英語にも言える鉄則ですねIf you don't practice even one day,you'll need at least three days to getback to the previous condition.今度は、色々名詞を変えますI need a place to study in.勉強部屋がいるとばい。I need a good dictionary to study with.勉強に使う良い辞書がいるとよ。You need guts to achieve this with.これをやり遂げるなら根性がいるったい。I need three assistants to do this work.この作業をするには3名助手がいる。などと応用できますね。ご自身でも例文を作ってみてください。【Ken's Office】

Good News & Bad News
I've got good news and bad news: Bad news is that I failed to give a good seminar to people yesterday. It was all my fault. I should've analyzed the needs of the participants.What I want to tell them and what they want to learn with me were quite different. This was a great lesson to me. Good News: I won a good premium provided Toyota Rental Lease. It's a fashionable and sporty mountain bike. I have to adjust the height of the saddle to be able to ride it. But I am happy to have it. Never did I expect that I would get it. [Ken]

Be My Guestの応用
★パイレーツオブカリビアンに、Be my guest！ という表現が出てくる様です。 例えば、お客様に、「ご自由にどうぞ！」とか「好きにしなさい！」という意味合いですね。★上の、Be my guest! を末次・二刀流で応用します：guest とは、客人という意味ですから、be my guest 自体は、本来は、＜私のお客様になって下さい＞という意味から⇒「ご自由にどうぞ」という意味です。これは、お客さんが、「電話を貸して欲しい」とか等、何か要望を言ってきた場合に使う言い方ですねこれを生かして、次の言い方が言えます：I don't want to be your guest!!「君の思い通りにはならないよ」例えば、Taro ： Hanako, please lend me some money!! If you kindly lend me 10,000 yen, I will do whatever you like later. （ちょっとお金貸してよ、一万円貸してくれたら あとで何でもするからさ！）Hanako： No, I don't want to be your guest!! （その手には乗らないわ！）という言い方が出来ます。Ken, today you have to be my guest. といえば、いつもお茶も飲まないで帰る友達がいて、今日くらいは、「お茶でも飲んでいきなさいよ」という事を言う場合に使う言い方となります。１つの言い方を覚えたり、習ったりしたら色々と自分の創意工夫でその表現を広げていく様に癖をつけますと自分自身の力で英語の力を伸ばす事が出来ます。ご参照下さい。 【Ken's Office】

a long way
今日も、平易な英語表現をご紹介致します： 『会社や学校から遠い所に住んでいる』というのは英語でどう言うでしょうか？？ 色々な言い方が出来ますが、 I live a long way from my school/my office. という言い方が平易で便利です。 Since I live a long way from my company,I have to take a train for over two hours to commute.勤め先から遠くに住んでいるので、通勤で2時間以上列車に揺られています。 * a long way で思い出しましたが、 何か評価を受けて、感謝しつつも、まだ「道遠し」という気持ちを出すには、Thanks, but I have a long way to go. と言います。Ken

Sunday Aug. 6thThis day my morning English lessons are cancelled and soI spent a few hours in the morning listening to Jazz ina very relaxed mode.In the afternoon, I had two hour-long English seminar.This time, I focused on English conversation.I stressed the importance of "parroting" and "quick response", demonstrating these skillswhile I was conversing the participants.For example, if your partner said to you"I was the club leader at that time."You should respond to him/her, saying"You were!" This is a small but important thing.If you want to take the initiative in the conversationwhile your partner is talking, you can use this expression:○○○ reminds me of ----There are so many other techniques to help youhave a better conversation.I would like to show them all to you all someday.In the evening, I had a dinner with a deshi of mine.This was the first time for me to have a dinnerwith her alone. I have wanted to have this goodopportunity for a very long time. At last this day has come.For me it has been greatly important to be able to havean excellent communication with this young person, since this guy has been a great drive to me.Honestly speaking, I've felt some degree of difficultyin communicating this guy due to gap in age and otherthings, but I have to accept my poor communicating capability especially with younger generation and havedecided to try my best to improve myself in thecommunication. This morning I was busy in teaching English to threestudents of mine separately.I finished these morning lessons at the noon.Then, I took a rest and worked on a certain translation untilthe evening.I had another two English lessons at five and seven in theevening.In the lesson with a deshi of mine,I taught how to translate English business informationinto natural Japanese. Then, we practiced how to useplain verbs and expressions.Since the beginning of this month, I have kept teachingEnglish to the deshi. I would like to have it everydayfor her. 福岡でのセミナー
★ Friday, August 4thThis day I went to Tenjin, Fukuoka to visit Fukuoka SOHOSupport Center where I was supposed to teach tipsof English⇔Japanese translation/interpretation.A total of three persons joined my seminar today.I showed them the very tips and techniques ofmy translation method called 二刀流.I also stressed that we don't have to usedifficult words to express ourselves.At the same time, we don't have to useJapanese-English dictionary to find Englishwords needed to express ourselves.Just use our own vocabrary.For example, 「夫は今日は体調を崩しております」It should be: My husband isn't well today.I talked to the participants about this thing in detail.－－－－－－－－－－－－－－－－－－－－

日本語の名詞表現⇒⇒英語の動詞表現で
通翻訳者としてよく感じることですが：日本語はどちらかと言えば、名詞を主体に、言いたい内容を組み立てていきます。一方英語では、動詞を主体に表現していきます 勿論、ケースバイケースで上が対応しない場合もありますが、 例： 「田中君は同僚です」 I work with Tanaka-kun. 「僕の趣味は音楽鑑賞です」 I like listening to music. では、以下は、弊所が携帯電話向けの通信講座（一部無償展開）で出した問題です： 「ヒマラヤ・スギ(Himaraya Cedar)は、杉に似ているのでスギの名前が付いていますが、 実際は、松（pine）科です」 Himalaya Cedar is named cedar, because it shapes likea cedar. （/--is namded cedar after its shape.）But actually the Cedar belongs to the pine family. ★スギの名前が付いている⇒ is named cedar となります 松科⇒松科に属している、という事ですから belong to the pine family.となります 英語のコツ(の一つ）は、上記に有ると思います。ご参照ください。ご質問は何なりとどうぞ。【Ken's Office】弊所では、携帯電話のメール機能を使っての英語通信講座もしております。短い文章を送付し、それを翻訳していただき、添削する、というものです。7日に限り無償で実施します。その後、有償（月3-5千円）ご興味のある方はご連絡くださいませ。

●drive と 駆動力
現在、弊所で行っております英語授業では、＜英語によるプレゼンテーションの方法＞の練習として「竹とんぼ」を英語で説明する事をしております。 構成部品として、軸と羽がありますので。 Bamboo Helicopter is simply made up of two parts:a stick and a (single) propeller. と説明します。 そして、普通は、次の説明、組み立て方とか飛ばし方などに進みます。ですが、軸と羽の関係を説明する事も必要です そこで、 The stick is the drive for the propeller. と言います。 [drive]とは、駆動力、原動力という意味合いです。 この driveは、使い勝手があります。 例えば、 「お子さん（赤ちゃん）が出来て、 田中さんは張り切っている」 という場合 His new baby is a good drive for him.となります Ken
