4月から何気なく始めたNHKラジオ講座「英会話上級」自分の会話のレベルから行ったら、おこがましいの一言なんですが、内容の興味深さから、録音ファイルを何度も何度も繰り返し聞いています。でも、全然、頭にとどまらない。。。「昔はこんなことはなかったのに」とグチを言っても仕方ないので、せめて「以前やったんだ！という証拠」を自分に突きつけるために記録として残しておきます。まずは6月4日放送分から・・・Winners & Losers(1)2週間で5話で。完結そして復習というのが、4月からのパターンのようですが、最初の話は思い切り、速くて単語も難しい！毎回のことですが・・・イヤイヤ、ビビりました。これには、かなり凹みますが、このパターン、わからないのにも少し慣れてきました。contingent upon ～を条件とする、～次第で、formaldepending on something that may happen in the futureAny increase in discount will have to be contingent on [upon] a larger order.割引率を増やすには、大口注文を頂くことが条件です。tract 土地の大きな広がり、地方、区域a large area of landdwell on ～をくよくよ考える 気にとめるto think or talk for too long about something, especially something unpleasant:Craig had a bad habit of dwelling on his failures. クレイグには失敗をくよくよと考える悪い癖があった。on the verge of 今にも～しようとしてto be at the point where something is about to happen:I was on the verge of agreeing with him when someone cried, "He's a liar!" 私が彼に賛成しようとした時、誰かが「彼はうそつきだ」と叫んだ。philanthropy慈善、慈善活動、社会奉仕事業接頭語"phil"には"love"の意味があるthe practice of giving money and help to people who are poor or in troubleBill Gates is very much involved in philanthropy now. ビル・ゲイツは、いまや熱心に慈善活動に打ち込んでいるこのパッセージは「勝ち組」「負け組」の話ですが、アメリカでは成功した人はその富のなにがしかを社会に還元するのがunwritten cord （不文律）になっているとの事です。強調のための倒置Only in recent years have emerging tycoons been able to generate tremencous wealth without it.手術が終わるまで、彼は自分の足で立つことはできないでしょう。After his operation, will he be able to stand on his own feet again.if anything（数） if any（量） 「もし（あったとしても）せいぜい」彼にはその問題について言うべき事はほどんどないようでした。He seemed to have little, if anything, to say about the problem.＊ゼイゼイ（汗）必死です。。。単語、難しすぎ～特にdwell on 「気にとめる」もう10回くらい意味を確認してるのに、覚えられない。と書いたらさすがに今は覚えましたが・・・何だか自分の思っているイメージと違う単語ってわかりにくい。でも英作文は役立ち表現満載です。クールに使いたい＊＜訳・例文は英辞郎とLongmanより引用しています＞
