Conventional wisdom, frequently espoused by high school guidance departments, suggests that students take the SAT or ACT for the first time in spring of their junior year. Although well-intended, such advice may not apply to all students, many of which might be better off preparing for the test over the summer, and taking it in the fall of their junior year.
