ニューヨークの超高層ビルの事故
ニューヨーク・タイムズを読んでいると、私にとって懐かしくもある番地で起った事故の記事が目にとまった。マンハッタン57番通り西111番地に建つ超高層ビルから建築資材が地上に落下したというのだ。 セントラルパーク近くのこのあたりは、現在、「億万長者通り」と呼ばれていて、販売価格が一戸数十億円から数百億円という住居専用高僧ビルが建ち並んでいる。昨日事故がおきたビルは、住居専用ビル（レジデンシャル・ビルディング）としてはニューヨーク市で2番目の高さを誇るとかで、見た目には非常に細長い・・・格好つけて言えば「スレンダー」な建物。事故に関する公報は、まったく幸いな事に一人のケガ人もなかったと言っている。 この通りは、先に述べたようにセントラルパーク南に平行し、ブロードウェイやアヴェニュー・オブ・アメリカ（7番街のこと）が直交し、カーネギーホールがすぐそばにあり、少し離れるが5番街と交わる角にはプラザホテルがある。普段なら人通りも車も非常に多い。 この事故で落下したデブリ（破片）は、2ブロック先まで飛んでいるというから、おそらくCOVID-19禍の影響で、あのニューヨークの雑踏は激減していたことが不幸中の幸いになったかもしれない。しかも、雨が降ったり止んだりの天候だったことも、人通りを一段と少なくしていたかもしれない。 東京の家にほとんど閉じこもって作品制作している私が、ニューヨークのこんなニュースに驚くこともないのだが、昔、私がニューヨークで長期滞在していたホテルが、まさにこの通りだったのだ。その当時と現在とでは、ニューヨークの建築群はまったく変わってしまっている。 COVID-19禍により、私が作品を出品することになっていたアートフェアが、当初予定していたニューヨーク展が中止になり、次いでマイアミ展が中止になった。そして再びニューヨークに戻り、いまのところ来年4月に開催されると私のエイジェント画廊から連絡が来ている。 まあ。私は、泰然自若というのでもないが、作品はすでに送ってあるので、展覧会が次々に中止に追い込まれても気にはしていない。私はただ黙々と自分のやるべきこと、やろうと思っていることの実現に意を注ぐだけ。・・・それしかないんだ。 ついでに書いておこう。来月、11月11日に韓国展が開幕することになっている。

新実さんのメールに触発され
朝のうちにクリニックへ行き、私個人的定例の主治医の問診を受けた。 「調子はどうですか？」と聞かれて、私が「おかげさまで絶好調でして、なかなかクタバリそうにありません」と言うと、主治医は微苦笑した。医師らしく表情を削いでいられるが、かすかに鼻白らんだ様子を私の目は見逃さない。 フフフ、先生、ごめんなさい。絵描きの意地悪さで、感情を押し殺しても押し殺しきれない表情の有るか無きかの変化を観察しておもしろがっているのです。ついつい。いやー、失礼しました。・・・また、2ヶ月後にお目にかかります。 さて、新実さんが昨夜の初演演奏会の様子をおしらせくださった。すばらしい演奏会で、新作の手応え充分だったようだ。私は多忙で聴きに行けなかった。残念至極。 しかし、新実さんのメールから触発されたのだろう、私の頭にパッとひらめくイメージがあり、あわてて乱雑なデスクの上から紙を引っぱり出して簡単なスケッチをした。色鉛筆でザザッとイメージを補足し、後日、何がいったい私の感覚を刺激したのかを思い出せるようにした。・・・やがて発酵する時がくるかもしれない。 I went to the clinic in the morning and was inter-viewed by my doctor. As the doctor asked, "How are you doing?", so I said,"Thanks to you, I'm in great shape, and it doesn't looklike I'm going to hell." He smiled a bit as a physician. He sharpened his expression like a doctor, but my eyes didn't miss the faint to be a slight chill on his nose. Ha,ha,ha, doctor, I'm sorry. I was thinking to interest-ing to obsrve the change in facial expressions that can't be killed even if the emotions are killed because of spiteful of the painter. I just was caarelessly. I was sorry. ... I will see you again in 2 months. By the way, a composer Mr. Niimi told me about the premiere concert last night. It was a wonderful concert, and it seems that the response of the newwork was sufficient. I was too busy to go to listen.I was a shame. However, I had an image that flashed in my head,(probably inspired by Mr. Niimi's email), so I hurried-ly pulled out the paper from the messy desk and made a simple sketch. I quickly supplemented the image with colored pencils so that I could rememberat a later date what really shook my senses. ... It may ferment some day.Tadami Yamada

忙しく自転車に飛び乗って
きょうも午前中から午後にかけて民生委員としての仕事3件。自転車に飛び乗る私を見た隣家の夫人が、「いってらっしゃい」と声をかけてくれた。私も「行って参ります」と言い残して走り出した。が、仕事を終わって一旦帰宅し、すぐに再度自転車に飛び乗らなければならず、するとまた夫人とバッタリ顔を合せた。「あらまあ、お忙しいこと！」と夫人は言った。「はい、またちょっと出かけてきます！」と私。 そんなこんなで、きょうの新実徳英さんの新作世界初演演奏会には行けなくなってしまった。新実さん、ごめんなさい。

行政地区を異にする境界線上居住者を救助するために
今日もまたまた会議。 きょうの会議は、私は民生委員として出席した。二つの異なる行政区、すなわち八王子市と日野市との境界線に居住する方たちを、災害時ならびに高齢者福祉の問題として実質的に救助するために如何なる方策があるか、という話し合いである。 私が民生委員として担当しているのがまさにそのような地域である。しかも、通常、境界としてイメージできるような行政区割りにはなっていず、街が開発された時の事情によるらしいのだが（私もその詳細を知らない）、非常に複雑に両市が混在している。極端な言い方だが、或る地番は、一戸だけが他市の中に在るのだ。すくなくともその地番にたどりつくためには、自分の市から入れず他市を経由しなければならない。・・・私が担当しているのはそのような地区なので、日常の支援のなかでちょっとびっくりするような事体を経験している。 そんなわけで、両市の包括支援センターの主宰でこのような話し合いが、じつは初めておこなわれたのである。協力体制を構築してゆくために今後も協議をつづけてゆくことになった次第。

受取荷を開封前に消毒する習慣

カレーに自家製柿ジャムを加えてみた
明日から5日間、連日、会議やら何やらがつづく。作品制作は休業である。 ところで、今夜の夕食にカレーを作った。私のカレーはたくさんのスパイスを使うのだが、先日作った柿ジャムを加えてみた。マンゴーチャツネの代用である。これが意外にうまくいった。ジャムをたくさん作ったので、パンに塗るだけでは芸がない。他に使いどころをないものかと思ったのだ。 ちなみに私のカレーは、市販のルーとチキンカレーの場合はチキンコンソメのべース（ビーフカレーの場合はビーフコンソメ）に、ガーリック、ホワイトペッパー、チリペッパー、ヒハツ、ターメリック、ガラムマサラ、コリアンダー、カルダモン、オレガノ、フェネルグリーク、タイム、クローブ、そして抽出したコーヒーを加える。市販のルーはいずれのメーカーの味も私には浅く感じるので、全く別なものにしてしまうのである。もちろん各スパイスの量は私の長年の経験による。そして、今日はここにマンゴーチャツネの代わりに柿ジャムを投入した。 ついでながら、私のカレーは家人にも好評であることを付け加えておこう。（オッホン！） 亡父母にも好評だったので、今夜の仏飯はカレーを供えた。 Meetings and other things will continue everyday for five days from tomorrow. Painting pro-duction is closed. Well, I made curry for dinner tonight. My curry uses a lot of spices, but I added the persimmon jam I made the other day. It is a substitute for mango chutney. This worked surprisingly well. I made a lot of jam, so just applying it to bread is not a trick. I wondered if there was any other use. By the way, my curry is a chcken consommebase (beef consomme for beef curry) for com-mercial roux, and include garlic, whitepepper, chilipepper, long pepper, turmeric, coriander, garam masala, cardamon, oregano, fenugreek, thyme, cloves, and extracted coffee. Commercially available roux tastes shallowto me from any manufacturer, so I make itcompletely different. Of course, the amountof each spice depends on my many years ofexperience. And today, I put persimmon jamhere instead of mang chutney. Incidentally, let me add that my curry is alsopopular with my family. (Hem!) It was well received by the late parents, sotonight's Buddhist meal was served with curry.Tadami Yamada

庭の柿でジャムを作った
庭の柿でジャムを作った。 この日記に何度も書いているが、この時期、毎朝夕の落ち柿の始末が大変だ。鳥が啄んで半分になったところで落ちる柿も二つや三つではない。始末しないでおくと我家の小庭は、まるで大酒飲みの酔っぱらいの臭いになってしまう。穫り入れすれば済む事だけれど、そして甘い柿なので穫り入れしたいのは山々だが、みな高い枝に生っている。数えるさへ面倒なほど、おそらく三百個は優にあるだろう。 風の吹きようで両隣の家の敷地に落下するので、顔を合せるたびに謝っている。それで昨日、高枝伐り鋏がとどく限り、しかも少しばかりだったが、切り落した。もちろん落下するや柿は割れて散った。しかし落ちても割れなかった柿も30個ばかりあった。仰向いて作業をつづけて、足許がふらついてきたので止めたが、じつはその30個ばかりの柿でジャムを作ったのだ。 40分ほどで出来上がった。ペクチンを抽出するために、やはり庭の土佐文旦を刻んで入れた。レモンの代用である。甘さは控えめの、添加物なしの純正柿ジャムである。ありあわせの広口瓶を煮沸消毒して詰めた。詰めた後、蓋側を下にひっくり返して置く。こうすることで日持ちが良くなるのである。 I made jam from persimmons in my garden. 人体に未知の臓器発見！
人間の身体構造にまだ多くの未知が在ると言われている。しかしながら、このたびオランダの癌研究所などのチームがいままでその存在がまったく知られていなかった「臓器」を発見したというニュースに、私は驚いた。2020年の今になって「臓器」を新発見するなんて！ アンドレアス・ヴェサリウスによって近代解剖学が始まって約500年も経っているのに！ CNNが画像とともに伝えた。それによれば鼻腔と咽喉がつながる部分の頭蓋骨の内部に一対の「腺」が存在するという。研究チームは100人の被治験者すべてにこの臓器が存在することを確認した。 なぜ、今（あるいは、今頃になって）、未知の臓器を発見できたのだろう？ 「超音波やCTスキャン、磁気共鳴断層撮影（MRI）といった一般的な検査ではではこの臓器は見つけられず，前立腺がんの転移を調べるPSMA PET/CTという先端のスキャン検査で初めて見つかった。」とCNNは解説している。(2020.10.22 Thu posted at 11:09 JST) この臓器がいったい何のための器官であるかは今後の研究を俟たなければならないようだ。 じつは今朝、私は家人と「誤嚥」について話していた。誤嚥性肺炎による高齢者の死亡率が増加している。私も老人なので、注意しようという話をしたのだ。そして、私は、人間の身体の構造で「気道と食道が共に咽喉にある」こと、並びに「生殖器と泌尿器が同居している」ことは、人体構造の経済学と言ってもよかろうが、しかし生命に大きなリスクをあたえる経済なのだからじつに不可解な構造だ、と言った。 そんな冗談まじりの話をしたばかりだったから、未知の臓器を発見したというニュースに一層驚いたのである。人体構造経済学に照らし合わせれば、「無駄な造作」はないはずだ。何かの役目を担っているはずだ。いったいどんな役目だろう？ ・・・チェッ、自分の身体だぜ！ 俺はいったいどういう構造なんだ？オランダの研究チームが未知の臓器発見 It is said that there are still many unknowns inthe human body structure. アルゲリッチさんの微笑
私は若いころから時間の許す限り（そしてもちろん特にポケットマネーの許す限りだが）、クラシック音楽の優れた演奏家やオーケストラならびに指揮者のコンサートは生で聴いてきた。来日したヴィルトゥオーソ（優れた技巧の名演奏家）のコンサートは、数十年経っても思い出すと心豊かになる感じがする。そこが録音で楽しむのとは大いに異なる。 とはいうもののヴィデオで見聴きするのも、ときに思いがけないシーンに出会い、感動することがある。 きょう私はぼんやりとだらしない格好で椅子から身体を投げ出し、YouTubeでクラシック音楽を聴いていた。画面を見るのは演奏が難しそうなときだけで、イヤフォーンで聴いていたのである。幾度かサイトを切り替えているうちに、2009年のノーベル賞コンサートでマルタ・アルゲリッチさんがラヴェルの「ピアノ協奏曲 ト長調」を王立ストックホルム交響楽団と共演するのにぶつかった。私は姿勢を正して画面を正視した。そして・・・ 第2楽章のコーダ（最終部）。ピアノが右手の白鍵と黒鍵の2音だけのアルペジオでかなり長く奏でられる。その間に左手はときどき1音を奏で、右手の2音にアクセントとしての和音を構成する。そしてピアニッシモでリタルダンドして第2楽章が終わる。そのとき、カメラは捉えたのだ。アルゲリッチさんがやや上目使いで指揮者のユーリ・テミルカノフさんを見、そして「うまく行ったわね！」と問いかけるかのように口許に微笑を浮かべたのを。 すばらしいカメラワーク！ これこそヴィデオの映像の勝利だ。生のコンサートでは窺い知ることができないヴィルトゥオーソの表情。演奏家と指揮者との間にかわされる秘密のコンタクトだ。 このヴィデオのカメラマンにブラボー！ ・・・アルゲリッチさん、うまく行きましたとも、すばらしい演奏を聴かせてくださいました！2009年ノーベル賞コンサート From a young age, I've listened to live concertsby great classical musicians, orchestras and con-ductors, as time permits (and of cause especiallyas pocket money allows). The concert of Virtuosowho came to Japan seems to be enriched my heartwhen I remember it even after decades. It's verydifferent from having fun with recording. However, when I listen to it on a video, I some-times encounter unexpected scenes and am im-pressed. Today I threw my body out of the chair in avaguely sloppy and listened to classical musics on YouTube. I only look the screen when it seem-ed difficult to play, and I listened to it with my earphones. While switching sites several times, I got the site that Martha Argerich into Ravel's "Piano Concerto in G major" with the Royal Stock-holm Philharmonic Orchestra at the 2009 Nobel Prize Concert. I straightened my posture and looked straight at the screen. And ... Coda (final part) of the 2nd movement. Thepiano is played for quite a long time with anarpeggio with only two notes, a white key and a black key on the right hand. In the meantime,the left hand sometimes plays one note, andthe two notes on the right hand form a chordas an accent. And the second movement endswith ritardando at pianissimo. At that time, thecamera caught it. Argerich looked at the con-ductor Yuri Temirkanov with a slightly looking eye and smiled as if she was asking, "We've donegood, hadn't we?" Great camera work! This is the victory of thevideo image. The expression of Virtuoso, which cannot be seen from a seat at a live concert. It's a secret between the performer and the conductor. 『ファシズムの初期予兆』チェックリスト再掲載
日本国がファシズム国家へ転換堕落する「準備」が着々と進んでいる。これは笑い事ではない。私は冗談を言っているのではない。 全体主義およびそれを維持するための軍国主義は異名同体である（つまりこの主義主張には原理的に無理があることにほかならないのだが）。それは或る日ある時に一気に実現するものではない。国内のあちらこちらで、それと思わずにおこなっている事が、いつのまにかあらがえぬ吸引力をもった竜巻になるのである。・・・市町村の行政現場で、小中学校の教育現場で、町の自治会やお祭りの会合で、大小の出版社の編集現場で、さまざまなメディアに掲載される広告のちょっとした文言やイラストレーションで、TV放送やラジオ放送で、新聞で、巷間における一般人の言動において、そしてもちろん立法府（国会）の現場で、行政も、司法さへも。・・・いま日本は、これらのすべてにおいてファシズムの小さな芽が育っている。小さな火種が綿布団のなかで人知られず燻りつづけ、やがて時間がくれば大火となる。この喩えが、ファシズムが台頭する過程の喩えとして適しているであろう。 私は3年半前、2017年2月5日のブログ日記に、長年アメリカ合衆国連邦判事だったローレンス・W・ピアス氏による『ファシズムの初期予兆』チェック・リストを日本語に訳して掲載した。それをここに再び掲載する。このチェック・リストに日本国内で起っている出来事を照らし合わせれば、私たち日本国民がいかに危険な階段を昇りつつあるかが分かるだろう。あの事件が、この事件が、と思い浮べて、外す項目がないことにも気がつくだろう。 ちなみにローレンス・W・ピアス氏は、本年2020年2月5日に95歳で亡くなられた。その命日は、私が2017年に『ファシズムの初期予兆』を掲載した2月5日と同じ日付になった。あらためてローレンス・W・ピアス氏の逝去を悼みます。R.I.P. 「自国を破壊する政府と官僚組織そして国政および地方政治に携わる政治家たち」と、私が肌寒くも恐ろしくも日本国を思うのは、CNNが報じている次の記事を読みながらである。 トランプ氏は「最大の欠陥人間」 前大統領首席補佐官 米国現大統領についての人物評とその政治の実態について、ジョン・ケリー前大統領首席補佐官が語っているのであるが、私は読み進めるうちについつい他国の問題であることを忘れてしまった。まさに我が日本の国政ならびにこの政権を支持し、あるいはその尻馬に乗るデマゴギー（扇動者）を、明示していたからだ。 私は無邪気だったなー。政府が何の理念も無いままに自国の破壊に専心することがあろうとは、いやー、私は75歳のこのとしまで想わなかった。 国民に対して最も重責を担う人物が、意味のない言葉を述べるというのは、深い考えがあってのことではなく、述べるべき高度な理念がまったくないからだ。これはすでにして国政ではない。行き着く先は私利私欲でしかない。たかだか彼の身の回り数メートルの利益のための専横だ。私が肌寒くも恐ろしくも思うのは、その彼の身の回り数メートルの私利私欲のために国家機構を使うからだ。その点だけに彼らが言う「政治」がある。それは民主主義政治とは言い難い。民主主義国家とは言い難い。 この政権の狙いは民主主義国家日本の破壊であろうか？ しかも、哀れでもあり滑稽でもあるが、政権の尻馬に乗った扇動者たちは、アッハッハッハ、その数メートルの領域からはじき出されるということ。彼ら心弱き者たちは邪悪の旗降りをしているときだけアイディンティティを確認している。しかし邪悪な政治の力学を知らないのだ。 他国でも生活苦にあえぎながら「大統領がなんとかしてくれる」と言っているようだが、そう、なんとかするだろうね、自分の宣伝になるようなほんの一部の人たちに対して。それでも、はじき出された人たちはあまりにも善良なので、「やっぱり大統領が救ってくれた。次は私の番だ！」と思うのだろうね。お気の毒さま。施しや偽善は、国政ではないのだ。 民主主義国家が崩壊し軍国主義（全体主義）が復活したときに、邪悪な政権の旗振りたちは初めて自由の何たるかを知るだろう。殺伐とした精神の荒野に突っ立つ棒杭の己を。 軍国主義国家（全体主義）というのは単純な社会だ。支配者とイエスマン（服従者）の社会だ。したがって施政者・権力者にとっては面倒な手続きを必要としないまことにすっきりした「美しい」社会だ。前首相が言っていた「美しい日本」とはそういうことだ。国民の多くは、おそらく、「美しい日本」が何をもってそのように形容しているかを問うてもみなかっただろう。 「美」の正体は、個々人によってまったく異なる。前首相は自分がイメージしている美の正体を明らかにしなかった。その限りにおいて、彼は政治に持ち込むべきではないあいまいな言葉を政治言語として使用したのである。しかしながら、世界に冠たる私たちの平和憲法を改悪しようという政権の意思が、軍国主義復活に重なるため、「美しい日本」が何を意味しているかは明らかだ。前首相が言った「美しい日本」という言葉が、一般国民の抱くイメージとは異なる、・・・すなわち多くの国民をミスリードする「キナ臭い」政治言語となった。 民主主義とは面倒な手続きを必要する。人間が最も自由であるために是非とも必要な手続きなのだ。それは高度な理念を掲げているからであり、また、高度な理念を掲げるためでもある。この点が綻びれば民主主義は一気に崩壊する。民主主義は脆いのだ。維持するために一人一人の努力が必要なのだ。しかし、私は人類史のかでこれほど努力に値する社会思想をしらない。 「悪い奴ほど良く眠る」のである。しかしいま日本国民は、民主主義国家としての日本国を破壊する政治家に良い眠りを与えてはなるまい。 "Japanese Government and bureaucracy, and also politicians involved in national and local politics, thatdestroys self-country," I think of Japan, and I felt chilly and was frightened while reading the article reported by CNN (2020.10.17 Sat posted at 14:45 JST). However, it is clear what his "BeautifulJapan" means, as the administration's willingness torevise our world-class peace constitution overlapswith the resurgence of militarism. The word "Beau-tiful Japan" that the former Prime Minister said isdifferent from the image that the general public has... In other words, it has become a "smel of some-thing burning" political language that misleads many people. Democracy requires troublesome procedures. Itis a necessary procedure for human being to be themost free. It is because it has a high-level philoso-phy, and it is also necessary to continue to have a high-level phirosophy. If this point breaks down,democracy will collapse at once. Democracy is fragile. It takes each person's efforts maintain it.However, I think that we, human being did not have such an effort-worthy social thought in human history. "The worse one sleeps better". 私の短い漫画歴
昨日、私が子供の頃に親しんだ懐かしいお名前、漫画家・山根青鬼さんがお元気なことを聞き及んだ。それで、就寝してからいつものように英語の本を読んでいたのだが、頭にちらちら浮かんで来るのは子供時代の漫画のこと。本を閉じて、しばらくのあいだ漫画の記憶をたぐり寄せてみた。 私の漫画歴は小学校3年生だった10歳ころでほぼ終わっている。記憶をたどっても作者の名前とともに思い出す作品の数は多くない。最初に登場するのは、漫画ではなく絵物語だ。山川惣治「少年王者」。1949年に創刊された少年雑誌『おもしろブック』（集英社）に連載された。私は5歳になったかならぬかだったが、すでに文字が読めたので、『おもしろブック』を定期購読していた。当時私たち一家は北海道羽幌町に住んでいた。山川惣治の絵物語は、その後、「少年ケニア」（1951）の連載があった。 と言うわけで、私の記憶をウィキペディアを参照しながらたぐり寄せ、作者別に書いてみる。☆福井英一（1921-1954） 「イガグリくん」（1952『冒険王』）* 【*】柔道漫画である。連載開始年から3年ほど後に 読み始めた。福井氏が亡くなられる直前だ。 4年生のときに私は生亀先生に柔道を習って いた。上級生を差置いて同級の木村君が主将 で私は副将だった。上級生たちはイガグリく んの真似をして空気投げをし、先生に「漫画 の真似をするな！」と厳重注意された。 身体が小さかった私の得意技は寝技と巴投 げだった。寝技は、抑え込む力はなかったが、 相手の首根っこを道着の襟ごと締付けたまま 「まいった！」と言うまで畳の上で円をえが くのである。あるとき、上級生との対戦で想 いがけず私の小外刈りがかかった。上級生は 仰向けにひっくりかえり脳震盪をおこして気 を失った。さいわい大事には至らなかったが、 以来、私はそれがトラウマになって柔道がで きなくなってしまった。 私の時代の会津高校の体育授業には武道が 組み込まれていた。柔道または剣道のどちら かを必ず選択しなければならなかった。私は 少しばかり経験がある柔道を選択したが、じ つは中学3年のときに腰を痛め、その後遺症 が出る事があったので会津高校では一度も柔 道をしなかった。いつも道場の隅で「見学」 だった。「イガグリくん」と共に思い出した。 「赤胴鈴之助」（第1回のみ。1954『少年画報』）* 【*】福井氏死亡により以後武内つなよし氏が連載を 引き継いだ。☆杉浦 茂（1908-2000） 「猿飛佐助」（1954-1955 『おもしろブック』）* 【*】杉浦氏の画風が好きだった。この漫画で真田十 勇士を知った。☆武内つなよし（1922-1987） 「赤胴鈴之助」（第2回以降。1954『少年画報』）☆横山隆一（1909-2001） 「デンスケ」（1949-1955『毎日新聞』） 「フクちゃん」（1956-1971『毎日新聞』）* 【*】1936年から『東京朝日新聞』に連載されたが 中断したり掲載誌を変えたりし、1956年か ら『毎日新聞』に復活連載された。☆横山泰三（1917-2007） 「プーさん」（1950-1957『毎日新聞』）* 【*】横山隆一氏の実弟。☆加藤芳郎（1925-2007） 「まっぴら君」（1954-2001『毎日新聞夕刊』）* 【*】加藤氏は『オール讀物』（1946年復刊）にも 執筆されていたと記憶する。題名は忘れたが そのエロティックな漫画が小学生だった私の お気に入りだった。・・・いや、待てよ、加 藤氏ではなく小島功氏（1928-2015）だっ たかな？ 記憶があいまいになっている。ま ちがっていたら御両氏には申し訳ない。とも かくも、父が購読していた『オール讀物』を 書店が届けにくるのを楽しみにしていた。両 親は、私が大人の雑誌を読む事をまったく禁 止しなかった。 当時、改めて注文しなくとも発行日に本屋 が届けてくれた本は『オール讀物』（文藝春 秋新社）、『主婦の友』（主婦の友社）、 『主婦と生活』（主婦と生活社）、『おもし ろブック』（集英社）、『科学大観』（世界 文化社）、『子供の科学』（誠文堂新光社）、 『少年少女世界文学全集』（東京創元社）、 『児童文学全集』（偕成社）の8冊。本屋が 一度にまとめて届けてくれることもあった。 これ以外の本は、町のこの本屋に私が一人 で買いに行った。図鑑などである。☆根本 進 （1916-2002） 「クリちゃん」（1951-1965『朝日新聞夕刊』）☆上田としこ（1917-2008） 「フイチンさん」（1957-1962『少女クラブ』）* 【*】連載年代はウィキペディアに依ったが、私に は疑念が残る。というのは、この少女雑誌を 私は同級生のカツミちゃんの家に遊びに行っ て見せてもらっていた。連載開始と記録され ている1957年、私は12歳、カツミちゃんの 家（お店屋さんだった）は場所を移転してい たので少女雑誌を見せてもらうために私が遊 びに行くことはなくなっていた。ウーン、記 録と私の記憶にちがいがある。☆堀江 卓（1925-2007） 「矢車剣之助」（1957-？『少年』）* 【*】私の漫画歴の最後を飾る作品。江戸時代の大岡 越前配下の御庭番を主人公にした作品の奇想が 私は大好きだった。レオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチ の実現しなかった発明の数々を連想する。どう やら私の本性に、奇想に心酔する傾向があるよ うだ。3,4歳の頃に、隣家の赤松さんの高校生 のお兄さんがすべてを手作りした帆船模型（小 さな船員や水夫たちが乗っていた）を見せられ て、仰向けに空中に引っ張り上げられるような 恍惚を感じた。・・・その感覚を追体験しよう としているのかもしれない。☆島田啓三（1900-1973） 「冒険ダン吉」（1933-1939『少年倶楽部』）* 【*】この連載年代もウィキペディに依る。そして、 私には疑念が残るのだ。この年代に両親は結 婚さへしていないし、私は1945年の生れだ。 しかし、私はこの作品をたしかに見ている。 その記憶ははっきりしていて、何故かと言うと 「矢車剣之助」に心酔したと同じ理由で、主人 公ダン吉少年が南の国のジャングルのなかでさ まざまな物をこしらえ、ジャングル生活を豊か にしてゆくからだった。丸太からトロッコを作 ったりする、その創意工夫を私はわくわくしな がら楽しんでいた。・・・私はいったいどこで その掲載誌を見たのだろう。たしかなのは、戦 前の出版物ではなかったということだ。 私の漫画歴には手塚治虫氏「鉄腕アトム」も横山光輝氏「鉄人28号」も入ってこない。両氏の2作は堀江卓氏の「矢車剣之助」と同時期のものなのだが。・・・はっきり意識していたわけではないが、人間が創ったものながらロボットが人格を備えたかのようにスーパーマンとして活躍する物語を、私の感性はあまり喜んで受け入れなかった。それは私が好んだ「奇想」とは異なった。

なつかしいお名前を聞いた。 庭の落ち柿の始末をしていると隣家の夫人が呼びかけてきた。「山田さん、この方をご存知ですかしら？」と、プリントした漫画と二枚の絵葉書を見せた。プリントの漫画にはサインも印刷されていた。 「ああ、漫画家の山根青鬼さんですね。もちろん存じております。私が子供の頃からご活躍でしたから、少年雑誌で読んでいました。山根赤鬼さんという双子のご兄弟で、共に漫画家です」 「田河水泡さんのお弟子さんだったとか・・・」 「そうです。《のらくろ》の田河水泡さんです。昭和25,6年頃から少年雑誌が創刊されはじめました。戦後の出版活動がいよいよ子供向けの書籍や雑誌にもおよびはじめ、『おもしろブック』とか『冒険王』などという少年雑誌が刊行されるようになりました。山根青鬼赤鬼兄弟は昭和30年前後からそのような雑誌に執筆されていたと記憶しています」 「山田さんは、やっぱりご存知」 「その山根青鬼さんが、なにか・・・？」 山根青鬼さんが、隣家の夫人のお友達と卓球をされていられたのだという。とてもお元気で、ときどき卓球をしている人たちをじっと観察して、さらさらっとスケッチされていられた、と。 「そうですか。大先生はお元気ですか。なつかしいお名前をお聞きしました」

寺社古建築と信仰心 ー 朝日新聞記事をめぐって
朝日新聞デジタルで、「9種の木、重文の本堂の柱に 再建に込めた農民の思い」と題して戸村登氏が、私にとって大変興味深い記事を書いていられる。 国指定重要文化財である岐阜県御嵩町の願興寺本堂は、現在、解体修理中である。その本堂の柱材として9種類の木が使用されていることが分かった。しかもその9種の木材は、寺社建築に使用されることが稀ないわゆる「雑木」であるという。同寺には1572年の戦で消失した寺を「地域の農民たちが苦労して再建した（1581年）」と書かれた文献が残ってい、戸村登記者は「寺を必死によみがえらせた当時の姿がうかがわれる発見だ」と紹介していられる。 私がこの発見に深い関心をいだくのは、次のような理由である。 日本の寺社古建築は、その全体の構造図面を見て気付くことなのだが、信仰の宇宙を構造化する意志・・・それこそがまさに信仰心の深さの具現である・・・が、神仏と人間との関係を現実の地勢に閲し、さらに決定した地面をさえ上下に構造化し、建築材を信仰に添わせて建築的に構造化している。私はこの事実を、一部の人々だけの信仰心ではおそらく成立しなかっただろうと考えている。つまり、広く社会全体が信仰世界になっていることが重要で、このことは現代的な宗派的な諸宗教信仰とは別なのではないか。私は、ひそかに「古典的な魂」と言っている。なぜかというと、じつは上記のような寺社建築が時代が現代に近づくにつれて、いわば地面に対して「置物」になってくるからだ。信仰心の表徴が表面的なものになってくるのである。たとえ美々として荘厳されていても、それは「目に見える」ものだ。私が上記したことは、ほとんどの場合、目に見えないか、気付きにくいのである。 岐阜県御嵩町の願興寺本堂に9種の材木が使われていたこと、しかもその材木がいわゆる「雑木」の類いである事実は、戸村登記者が示唆したように農民たちの「必死」な念いの証左である。雑木を使ったから信仰心が無いというのでは全然ない。むしろその逆である。封建社会のなかで「下層」に位置づけられた農民が、どうして檜のような高価な管理材を求められよう。農民のせめても手のとどく限りで掻き集められた柱材9種だったのだ。これこそが、私の指摘する深い信仰の宇宙の具現化なのである。 私の観点からは、願興寺本堂は国定重要文化財から国宝に格上げしてもよかろうにと思うが、さて、現在進行中の解体修理の計画がいかなるものかが注目である。せっかく発見した9種の柱材が示す古の農民の信仰心を活かせるのかどうか・・・朝日新聞デジタル戸村登氏記事 In the Asahi Shimbun Digital, Mr. Noboru Tomurawrote a very interesting article for me, entitled"Nine kinds of trees, the thoughts of the farmerswho put them into the pillars of the main hall of theBuddhist temple of the Important Cultural Proper-ty". The main hall of Gankōji Temple in Mitake Town,Gifu Prefecture, which is a nationally designatedimportant cultural property, is currently being dis-mantled and repaired. It was found that nine kindsof wood were used as the pillar material of the main hall. Moreover, the nine types of wood aresaid to be so-called "miscellaneous trees" that arerarely used in temple and shrine construction.There is a historical document in the temple thatsays, "The local fermers struggled to rebuild thetemple, which disappeared in the war of 1572,"and Mr. Tomura said, " The temple was desper-ately revived. It is a discovery (of using of nine kinds of wood) that shows the appearance of those days (1581)." I am deeply interested in this discovery for thefollowing reasons. You will notice the ancient architecture of Jap-anese temples and shrines by looking at theoverall structural drawing, but the will to struc-ture the universe of faith ... that was exactly theembodiment of the depth of faith ... The rela-tionship between gods or Buddha and human being was reviewed to the actual ground, and even the determined ground was structured upand down, and the building materials wereselected carefully and architectually structuredfollowing the faith. I believe this fact was probably not true with the faith of some people alone. In other words,it was important that society as a whole was areligious world, which was different from modern religious beliefs. I secretly call it a"classical soul," The reason is that, as the timesapproach the present age, the above-mention-ed temple and shrine architecture became, soto speak, a "figurine" against the ground, Themanifestation of faith becomes superficial. Even if it is beautiful and majestic, it is "visible".Most of the things I mentioned above areinvisible or hard to notice. As writer Tomura suggested, the fact thatnine kinds of timber were used in the mainhall of Gankōji Temple in Mitake Town, GifePrefecture, and that the timber is a kind ofso-called "miscellaneous wood" is the"desperate" feeling of the farmers. It is aproof of the fact. It's not that they had nofaith because they used miscellaneous woods.Rather, the opposite is true. 台風14号が西日本に接近中
台風14号が、午後2時現在、足摺岬の南南東海上を北北東に進み西日本に近づいている。我が市の防災安全課から明日明後日の注意を呼びかけるメールが届いた。 雨が降りつづいている。寒い。 そんな中、今朝、国勢調査員としてのスケジュールに従い、担当地区の回答状況を確認するために市役所に出かけた。私の確認は10時45分に終了。以後の作業は自宅での事務その他諸々。 As of 2:00 pm, Typhoon No. 14 is heading north-northeeast over the sea southe-southeeast of CapeAshizuri and approching western Japan. COVID-19禍で半年ぶりの電車
どうしても外出しなければならず、朝7時半に家を出た。COVID-19の感染が広がりだして以後はじめて電車を使った。6ヶ月ぶりくらいになろうか。 私の住まう所の駅から或る乗り換え駅までの車内は、全員マスクを着けた乗客が座席に一人置きに坐っていた。私は坐らずに立っていたが、立っていたのは他に一人だけだった。ところが乗り換えた電車の車内は混み合っていた。さもあろう、ちょうど通勤・通学の時間だ。 混み合ってはいたが、話し声はまったくない。友人知人同士がいないわけでもないだろうが、会話がない。皆そっぽを向いたように、黙りこくって、・・・あえて言うなら身体が固い感じである。 ふと窓を見ると、窓枠にスティッカーが貼ってあり、5cmー10cmと記して目印が印刷されていた。そして、車内の宙吊りポスターに、そのスティカーの意味が説明されていた。つまり、車窓を5cmないし10cm開けるようにという指示なのだった。 あらためて車内を見渡すと、なるほど窓を開けている座席があり、開けていない窓もある。どうやら乗客の無言の意思疎通で、開ける窓、開けない窓を、ひとつおきにしているらしかった。私は「ふーん！」と、ちょっと感心しながらポスターとスティッカーを交互に見やった。 I had to go out and left home at 7:30 in the morning.I used the train for the first time since the infectionCOVID-19 began to spread. 私の言っていることは間違っているか？！
かつて1970年代から1980年代半ば頃にかけて、前衛的な知識人たちがこぞって「反知性」論を謳い上げた。前衛的な芸術家たちも、現代文化の中心志向からマージナル（周縁、ないし境界域）な文化に目を向け、自己変革の過程を表現した。現代社会の閉塞感、息苦しさを知性偏重のゆえとして、その打開策をマージナルな文化的事象に求めたのである。「発見！」したと思ったのだ。 しかしながら、この「発見」は奇妙なことである。マージナルな文化事象を「反知性」と看做しているからだ。とんでもないことだ。 私はその当初からこの思想に疑問をいだいていた。なぜなら、社会を論じ文化を論じるならその初めからマージナルに目を向けていなければならないのであり、人間プロパーの問題に「中心」も「周縁」もあるはずがないからである。 私は「知識」と「知性」とを分けている。konowlege と interligence との違いである。「知識」というのは、いわゆる学識である。しかし、クイズに答えるだけの知識も、「知識」であるし、知識があるからといって実は「知性」をそなえているとは限らないのである。高学歴者が必ずしも知性人ではないことは、私たちは日常的に見聞きし、接しもし、熟知している。一方、「知性」は、必ずしも学歴がなくてもよい。経験知が学歴を凌ぐことを、これも私たちは日常的に熟知している。とくに自然を相手の生業は、知性の発露なくしては成り立たない。さらに言えば、「知性」は人格形成に関わっている。 「知識」と「知性」とが縄を綯うようになれば最も良いであろうが、日本の学校教育のみならずあらゆる方面での教育方法は教師役の質を含めて必ずしも「知識」と「知性」とが撚り合わさった縄にはならない。むしろ知性の涵養を排除する傾向にある。 なぜ私はこんなことをあえて言うのか。それは政治が堕落し、社会が混迷する昨今、またぞろ「反知性」論を説く論者がでてきたからだ。 私はこの論者の真意がわからない。たとえ真意がわかったところで「反知性」論に私が組することはないが、私は「それは逆だろう。いま我々が必要なのは知性だろう」と言いたいのである。 政治家の言葉が、言葉として機能しなくなっているのはなぜだ？ 権力者の伝達能力の失われた言葉によって、組織運営の実務者は勝手な解釈ないしは「忖度」という利己保全に堕し、独裁への道を開くことになる。すなわち独裁者と服従者という関係である。これはひいては国民を服従者に仕立てることである。 ・・・いま、日本国が陥っている状況は、これだ。他国の問題ではない。いや、「他山の石もて玉を修むべし*」、あるいは同様に「人の振り見て我が振り直せ」とも言う。そうではあろうが、日本のこの状況下で打ち出して来た「反知性」論とは、いったい何だ？ 国民が知性にそっぽを向けば、行き着く先は国民の自由の喪失であり、破滅であろう。 私の言っていることは間違っているか？！【＊】原文は「他山の石以て玉を攻（おさ）むべし」（『詩経』） From the 1970s to the mid-1980s, avant-garde intel-lectuals all proclaimed the theory of "anti- intellectu-ality." What we need now is intelligence." Why are the words of politicians no longer fanc-tioning as words? 政治家の劣化が社会の悲劇的結末をまねく

故ルチアーノ・パヴァロッティ13年忌にちなみ
「イタリアの至宝」と讃えられたテノール歌手ルチアーノ・パヴァロッティ氏が亡くなって、仏教式に言えばこの9月が13年忌だった。享年71。1972年、ニューヨークのメトロポリタン歌劇場のドニゼッティ作曲『連隊長の娘』にトニオ役で出演し、High C3（ハイ3点C）が9回出現する難曲アリアを苦もなく歌いきって聴衆を驚嘆させた。 ハイ3点Cとは、ト音記号のドの2オクターブ高いドで、簡単に言うと五線譜の上にはみだしているドの音である。テノール歌手であるパヴァロティ氏はヘ音記号のド、すなわちCの音を含めて優に3オクターブ以上のレンジを楽々歌っていた。現在、YouTubeで上記のトニオのアリアを聴ける。『連隊長の娘』のステージを、おそらくフィルム撮影した映像である。 というわけで、今日、私は故ルチアーノ・パヴァロッティ氏の歌を数曲つづけざまに聴いて楽しんだ。ハイトーンでのレガートは、いつ聴いても素晴らしい。 The tenor singer Luciano Pavarotti, who was praisedas " the treasure of Italy", died in 2007.
