ソフトクリームのフレーバー○×バトン

6月バトン

Is music beyond border?
As the one who give favor to Sing Like Talking, I was also the one who felt glad to read "How I became a Fan of A Japanese Singer who Sang in English", which Chikuzen Satou himself found and introduced on his weblog and Twitter: An international visitor in Japan visited a music festival. This writer couldn't understand Japanese songs due to language barrier, But one of the performers Chikuzen started his stage with an English song, And this writer felt that "the feeling was like a million dollar".Let me share my experience I recalled:I went to a music school in London for a short time. I was the only Japanese in the institute I went. I brought a greatest-hit album of S.L.T., One day, I asked the instructor to play one of the ballads at a theory class. All the classmates said "What a lovely voice he has!"This song is sung in Japanese, so back then, I thought that music is beyond border.This was the beginning of "Favorite, recommendation" in this weblog ...but now I feel that my outlook was really narrow. This time, I appreciate this writer for discovering one of the great musicians in Japan.-At the same time, as I read this essay, I felt that language barrier still exists.From late 1970s, fusion bands from Japan became internationally famous -their music is instrumental, and language is not a problem. I recalled that when an anime movie in Japan that made a big hit was shown in the U.S. last year, the theme song was newly recorded in English.On that regard, Saori Yuki is great; when she became a craze internationally, her performance was still in Japanese, while the music was jazz. -Is there anybody or anything else more to mention?As I reflect, I listen to various non-Japanese and non-English songs.I'm a fan of Djavan and understand Portuguese a little, but I often enjoy songs in strange languages -for example, for the recent couple of years, I'm interested in African pops.Come to think of it, I listen to those songs in strange language as "sounds" -such as Enya's songs in artificial languages. But it could mean those singers' voice have power beyond language.At least, the ballad of S.L.T. mentioned above has such power enough to enthrall students of music school in London.So is "Spirit of Love" that this essay writer fell in love with at the music festival. I suppose not all the musicians I've placed on "Favorite" are such people.Because recently, some of "Favorite" are not aimed at introducing musicians and CDs.
