Silent Knights winners at All-Goa Carol Singing Contest

SILENT KNIGHTS TOPS ALL-GOA CAROL CONTEST
Silent Knights,  Betalbatim w on the 1 st  Prize at the All-Goa Carol Singing Contest organised by Betalbatim Cricket Club on the 18th Dec. 2019. 
Sanctus  from Majorda bagged the Second Prize and 
Harmonia , Benaulim garnered the 3 rd  Prize. Altogether eight groups from Merces, Loutolim, Margao, Chinchinim, Orlim, Benaulim, Majorda and Betalbatim took part in Goa’s longest-running Carol Singing Competition. 
The Judges Mr. Emanuel Furtado and Fr. Peter Fernandes had a tough task choosing the winners as all the groups performed exceptionally well. Parish Priest Fr. Pascoal Afonso, the Chief Guest congratulated the winners and complimented the organisers. 

Xavier Cota compered and Wilma Noronha Cota quizzed the audience. Club President Franklin Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.

"KUD",Club of Betalbatim in Mumbai gets painted

There news to cheer as the Club of Betalbatim Villagers in Mumbai gets a fresh coat of paint in time for Christmas.

Under the able leadership of Mr. Nelson Alfonso the manager of the Club this was planned in 2017. Mr. Mariano Rodrigues and Mr Wilbur Cota together worked under the guidance of Mr. Nelson Alfonso to get the outer area painted.

Club of Betalbatim Villagers in Mumbai was founded in the year 1845 .Our club('kud', as it is known in Konkani) is a residential accommodation for the catholic residents of Betalbatim. It's situated in Mazgaon, Mumbai. Generous contribution have helped in this painting. 

If more generous donors come forward and contribute, the renovation of  the club including family rooms will be possible.The  members can get their families and stay in Mumbai at a nominal price. The Club officials are hoping to that the remaining renovation work will be done once people come forward to donate. 

Those who wish to contribute for this Club renovation may contact Mr. Joe Cota in Goa or Mr. Nelson Alfonso in Mumbai. Donations can be also directly transferred to the Club bank account.

Inter-School Goan Mando Dance Competition 2019

Dr. Marvin Cota, son of the soil was felicitated by  Social Club Of Betalbatim at their Inter-School Goan Mando Dance Competition on 2nd October 2019.  Dr. Marvin Cota  son of Late Dr. Jose Lourenco Cota,  bagged an European Patent  for his invention on monobolic dental implant. Dr. Cota was felicitated by Mr. Gustavo Afonso, a member of the Social Club of Betalbatim .

Social Club Of Betalbatim organised Inter-School Goan Mando Dance Competition as a part of their annual Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations.

The Chief Guest of the function was Dr. Afonso Botelho ( Associate Professor, Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim). The other invitees who attended the function included Prof. Nelly Rodrigues ( President of Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan & Zilla Panchayat member), Mr. Constancio Miranda ( sarpanch of V.P. Betalbatim) along with other panchas. The competition was judged by Fr. Peter Fernandes, Mr. Alvaro, Mr. Augusto.

Orientation Training cum Registration Programme 2019

The Directorate of Agriculture in association with Shri Ram Solvent Extraction Pvt. Ltd. is conducting Orientation Training cum Registration Programme for farmers in organic farming under PARAMPARAGOT KRISHI VIKAS YOJANA PKVY Scheme on friday 13th September 2019 at 9.30 am in Social Club Hall, Betalbatim, Goa.

  2. Krishi Card Xerox
  3. Aadhar Card Xerox
  4. Form I & IV.
Free organic inputs will be distributed to the registered farmers.




Cycling race through Villages, by Social Club of Betalbatim.

Social Club of Betalbatim organised Cycling race through Villages on the 28th April 2019. A ride of 10 Kms for the villagers of Betalbatim had categories for both male and female in Senior , General, teenagers. To encourage the younger lot, 12 and below category was included and had a shorter route to cycle.The Chief Guest for the race was son of the soil Mr. Clifford Miranda , a renowned footballer who has won laurels in the sports field .

The route for seniors was via Colva junction, Mungul junction, Seraulim and back.

In the Senior Category  the race was flagged off by Adrian Barreto,
Mr. Caetano Monte won the race and Mr. Menino Cota finished second.

In the general category the race was flagged off by Fr. Pascoal Afonso (Parish Priest of Our Lady of Remedios Church, Betalbatim).
In the male category, Mr. Clive Almeida won the race and Mr. Bosco  Lopes finished second.
In the female category Mrs. Louanne Almeida won the race.

In the Teenagers category the race was flagged off by Fr. Peter Fernandes ( Asst. Parish Priest and youth animator of Our Lady of Remedios Church, Betalbatim).
In the boys category Mast. Ramesh Talwar won the race and Mast. Preston Fernandes finished second.
In the girls category Ms. Shagun Gupta won the race and Ms. Senalda Lopes finished second.

The 12 and below category was flagged off by Mrs. Christina Afonso.
In the boys category Mast. Zacchaeus Barreto won the race and Mast. Ian Barreto finished second.
 In the girls category Ms. Yolana Cota won the race and Ms. Zoya Cota finished second.

The organising committee was headed by Mr. Jimmy Cota , Mr. Mavlon Afonso compered the event. . The registration counter was managed by T r. Lorraine Godinho ,Mrs.  Julie Cota, Mrs. Christina Afonso .
Prior permission was obtained from the collector to organise the cycling event and proper escorts guided the race obeying the traffic rules.

Betalbatim Cricket Club, Champions of C division

Betalbatim Cricket Club are the champions of All Goa Cricket League C Division organised by Goa Cricket Association. Betalbatim Cricket Club defeated Sucorro Cricket Club by 11 wits in the "C" division finals played at Porvorim on 10 April 2019.  Betalbatim Cricket Club won the toss and chose to field. Betalbatim Cricket Club restricted Sucorro Cricket Club to only 35 runs. In reply Betalbatim Cricket Club scored a fluent 8wicket victory in only 4 overs.

Santos Passos at Our Lady of Remedios Church,Betalbatim

T he Parishioners of   Our Lady of Remedios Church,  Betalbatim  gathered today for t he Santos Passos.  Santos Passos in Portuguese means “Holy Steps” and signifies the journey of Christ to Calvary. The singing of motet, meeting of Mother Mary and Jesus along the way, singing of the" Veronica's song" are the important features of the procession. The Santos Passos is a depiction of the ordeal, contemplation and suffering of Christ before being crucified. This tradition has been continued in Goa in most of the Parishes. 














Martins Corner gets their own organic vegetable garden

Mrs. Carafina Pereira, proprietor of Martins Corner has added an organic vegetable garden to source out fresh vegetables to her kitchen at Martins Corner. Mrs. Carafina, over the years has nurtured Martins Corner into a famous restaurant. Celebrities from all over the world and India have visited this restaurant and list still adds up.  



Mrs. Carafina has taken personal interest to grow vegetables to ensure a chemical-free  harvest for her kitchen at Martins Corner. The visit to the vegetable garden was quite a field trip for me, to see how meticulously the whole layout has been planned . The variety includes tomatoes,green chillies,cluster beans, brinjals, bottle gourd, drumsticks, ambado, papaya..pineapples.



Chef Edia Cota opens * Cota Cozinha* at Chaul, Betalbatim

Chef Edia Cota, a well known GOAN CHEF, has opened her own restaurant  * Cota Cozinha* at Chaul, Betalbatim .The restaurant was inaugurated on 2nd March 2019 by  Chef Edia Cota along with her son Sharif Cota and daughter-in-law Queeny Cota. Fr. Peter Fernandes, Assistant Parish Priest of Our Lady of Remedios Church Betalbatim blessed the restaurant. 


MOGAN FARIK KORAT, Konkani Tiatr by Youngsters of Betalbatim


Youngsters of Betalbatim put-up a splendid perfomance in the Konkani Tiatr " MOGAN FARIK KORAT". The last two konkani dramas Hanv Tuka Bhogxita in 2017 and Amche Dhonde Sambalat in 2018 set the stage to find the hidden jewels of Betalbatim. Since the last two performances the youth have matured in their acting.

Nachom-ia Kumpasar is a tribute to the unsung Musicians of Goa. This  Konkani movie has won 34 National and International Awards. Nachom-ia Kumpasar can be viewed at Betalbatim on Saturday, 2nd March 2019 at 7.00 pm. near Our Lady of Remedios Church, Betalbatim. This is part of the VILLAGE SHOWS bringing the movie to the villages

Konkani Tiatr " MOGAN FARIK KORAT" by Youngsters of Betalbatim

Konkani Tiatr " MOGAN FARIK KORAT" by Youngsters of Betalbatim on 25th February 2019 at 7.30 p.m near Chaul cross. This Tiatr is written by Sir Piety and Directed by Joaquim Faleiro.
The Crowd still remember the earlier dramas , Hanv Tuka Bhogxita and last year drama Amche Dhonde Sambalat.  The cast in the tiatr are mostly young  budding artists from Betalbatim.








SJHS, U17 girls are state champions in boxing

St. Jude's High School, Betalbatim U-17 girls grabbed the top honours in boxing and are the Goa State Champions. The U-14 boys were runners up in their category.

St. Jude's High School Betalbatim team of U-14 Girls are the winners of South District football tournament organised by  Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.They won 2-0 against school representing the Ponda taluka.

SJHS U14 girls secured 3rd place

U14 girls handball team of St. Jude's High School , Betalbatim secured 3rd place at taluka level tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. The students have been participating in other sports in recent times, which include Hockey, Boxing, Cricket, Kabaddi, Badminton, Chess, Futsal.  PE teacher Mr. Chadwick Furtado has been instrumental in getting the best out of the students in terms of coaching. PE Teacher also arranges for Professional Coaches for some sports , and this has paid rich dividends.
