All Goa Inter-school Elocution Competition organised by Joseph Afonso Memorial Trust on 21 july 2013

Joseph Afonso Memorial Trust, held its XIX ^th Annual Felicitation of SSCE & HSSCE toppers of the village on Sunday 21 ^st July 2013 at Social Club Hall, Betalbatim.The All Goa Inter-school Elocution Competition with the two topics: Will Mopa Airport benefit Goa? Does Goa have a will to solve the Garbage Problem? drew as many as thirteen schools.

Amanda Botelho of Fatima Convent, Margao, won the 1 ^st Prize while Jane Pereira of St. Mary's, Varca & Leanne Mesquita of St. Jude's, Betalbatim were the first and second runners-up. All the winners spoke out eloquently against Mopa Airport. It is a matter of pride that both the 1 ^st and 3 ^rd Prize winners are parishioners of Betalbatim.

Top rankers Mark D'Costa, Mevny Almeida, Liaura Carvalho & Jenice Ratos from the SSCE and Callens Pereira & Manila Diniz from HSSCE were felicitated at the hands of Chief Guest Fr. Pascoal Afonso. The Parish Priest complimented the Trust for holding the event and congratulated the toppers and the winners of the Inter-school Contest, remarking that our 40 MLAs should have been present to hear the feelings of students on these crucial issues.

Chairman of SSCE & HSSCE Board, Jose Remedios Rebello, Acting Asst. Matron of GMC and Florence Nightingale Awardee Eliza Rodrigues and Progressive Farmer Alvito Barreto, were bestowed with Awards of Excellence by the Trust. All three spoke of the important role their native village Betalbatim had played in their formative years.

Mrs. Lulita Carvalho who spoke on behalf of fellow judges Fatima Coutinho and Clinton Vaz, congratulated the contestants and gave several important tips on public speaking to them.

Guest of Honour Dr. Oscar Lourenço and Trustee Jose Pereira also gave away the prizes. Leticia Afonso, daughter of Joseph Afonso welcomed the gathering, while Trustee Isidorio Mendes gave the vote of thanks. The function was compered by Xavier Cota.

19th Annual Felicitation of Goa Board Top Rankers in SSCE & HSSCE by JOSEPH AFONSO MEMORIAL TRUST

J OSEPH AFONSO MEMORIAL TRUST, Betalbatim will be holding the 19 ^th Annual Felicitation of Goa Board Top Rankers in SSCE & HSSCE. The Programme held every year to perpetuate the memory of Joseph Afonso, an outstanding educationist and an excellent Sarpanch of the village, rewards meritorious SSCE & HSSCE students, resident in Betalbatim. The Felicitation Programme, is preceded by an Inter-School Competition which provides a platform for leading Goa Schools, to showcase the talents of their students.

This year an Elocution Competition will be held on the subjects:

1. Will Mopa Airport benefit Goa? or

2. Does Goa have a will to solve the Garbage Problem?

The Programme to be held on Sunday, 21st July 2013, at Dr. Jose Cota Memorial Hall, (Opp. Betalbatim Church), will begin at 10.00AM.

Inter-School Elocution Competition

The Joseph Memorial Trust , Betalbatim will organise Inter-School Elocution Competition on 15th July 2012 at 10.00 a.m at Dr. Jose Cota Memorial Hall, Betalbatim.

Top ranking students from Betalbatim, appearing in S.S.C.E and H.S.S.C.E. of Goa Board will be felicitated.

Event update: Inter-School Elocution Competition

The Joseph Memorial Trust , Betalbatim will organise Inter-School Elocution Competition in addition to its annual felicitation ceremony at Dr. Jose Cota Memorial Hall. The theme for the competition is "WE STUDENTS MUST MAKE A DIFFERENCE " . Students who wish to participate can send in their entries through their respective schools. Teacher Lorraine Godinho of St. Jude's High School , Betalbatim, can be contact at 0832 - 2880035 for rules and entry forms during school hours.

The trust was formed in memory of Late. Mr. Joseph Afonso who as a teacher worked tirelessly in every school that he was posted, including St. Jude's High School.The past students of St. Jude's High School , Betalbatim who were lucky to be taught by him will remember him as an excellent teacher who disciplined and moulded them infusing the right values. His three term stint as the head of the village helped betalbatim wake up from a sleepy village to the road of development.

For the last fifteen years the trust has been recognising efforts of students and felicitates top rankers in S.S.C.E and H.S.S.C.E. of Goa Board at their annual event.

Inter-School Elocution on Teachers Day at Betalbatim

Joseph Afonso Memorial Trust, held its XVth Annual Felicitation of SSCE & HSSCE toppers of the village on Teachers Day at Dr. Cota Memorial Hall, Betalbatim. The Inter-school Elocution Competition themed Can Goa Still be Saved , held on the occasion, drew nine leading schools from S.Goa, and was won by St. Judes, Betalbatim, while Regina Martyrum, Assolna and St. Mary’s, Varca were the first and second runners-up respectively. Chief Guest retired Principal Cheryl Colaço complimented the Trust for holding the event on such an important day. Earlier, former Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco, the Guest of Honour gave away the Awards for the student toppers of Betalbatim. He also felicitated Teacher Lorraine Godinho who was conferred the Best Teacher Award by the Trust. Rev. Dr. Victor Ferrão, speaking on behalf of the jury, comprising Dr. Afonso Botelho and Mr. Emanuel Furtado, congratulated the students for the high standard of their eloquence and their strong concern about Goa. Parish Priest Fr. Ubaldo D’Cunha who presided, spoke about Joseph Afonso’s qualities as an educationist and Sarpanch. In a unique gesture, the Trust felicitated each and every teacher present, with a rose. Sarpanch Minguel Pereira and Zilla Member Nelly Rodrigues were the special invitees.
