Farming in Betalbatim gets mechanised

Farming in Betalbatim saw a new wave as the fields in front of the Our Lady of Remedios Church were cultivated this year. The newly formed BETALBATIM FARMER's ASSOCIATION hopes to revive the farming activity in Betalbatim. The traditional methods farming in Goa like transplanting and harvesting are labour intensive which makes it financially uneconomical. This is one of the reasons that many gave up growing their paddy fields. The absence of proper fencing to keep out cattle from feasting on the crop is another reason that is a huge block.

"KUD",Club of Betalbatim in Mumbai gets painted

There news to cheer as the Club of Betalbatim Villagers in Mumbai gets a fresh coat of paint in time for Christmas.

Under the able leadership of Mr. Nelson Alfonso the manager of the Club this was planned in 2017. Mr. Mariano Rodrigues and Mr Wilbur Cota together worked under the guidance of Mr. Nelson Alfonso to get the outer area painted.

Club of Betalbatim Villagers in Mumbai was founded in the year 1845 .Our club('kud', as it is known in Konkani) is a residential accommodation for the catholic residents of Betalbatim. It's situated in Mazgaon, Mumbai. Generous contribution have helped in this painting. 

If more generous donors come forward and contribute, the renovation of  the club including family rooms will be possible.The  members can get their families and stay in Mumbai at a nominal price. The Club officials are hoping to that the remaining renovation work will be done once people come forward to donate. 

Those who wish to contribute for this Club renovation may contact Mr. Joe Cota in Goa or Mr. Nelson Alfonso in Mumbai. Donations can be also directly transferred to the Club bank account.

Santos Passos at Our Lady of Remedios Church,Betalbatim

T he Parishioners of   Our Lady of Remedios Church,  Betalbatim  gathered today for t he Santos Passos.  Santos Passos in Portuguese means “Holy Steps” and signifies the journey of Christ to Calvary. The singing of motet, meeting of Mother Mary and Jesus along the way, singing of the" Veronica's song" are the important features of the procession. The Santos Passos is a depiction of the ordeal, contemplation and suffering of Christ before being crucified. This tradition has been continued in Goa in most of the Parishes.

Martins Corner gets their own organic vegetable garden

Mrs. Carafina Pereira, proprietor of Martins Corner has added an organic vegetable garden to source out fresh vegetables to her kitchen at Martins Corner. Mrs. Carafina, over the years has nurtured Martins Corner into a famous restaurant. Celebrities from all over the world and India have visited this restaurant and list still adds up.  



Mrs. Carafina has taken personal interest to grow vegetables to ensure a chemical-free  harvest for her kitchen at Martins Corner. The visit to the vegetable garden was quite a field trip for me, to see how meticulously the whole layout has been planned . The variety includes tomatoes,green chillies,cluster beans, brinjals, bottle gourd, drumsticks, ambado, papaya..pineapples.

Nachom-ia Kumpasar, village show at Betalbatim on 2nd March 2019

Nachom-ia Kumpasar is a tribute to the unsung Musicians of Goa. This  Konkani movie has won 34 National and International Awards. Nachom-ia Kumpasar can be viewed at Betalbatim on Saturday, 2nd March 2019 at 7.00 pm. near Our Lady of Remedios Church, Betalbatim. This is part of the VILLAGE SHOWS bringing the movie to the villages

Parish Youth of Betalbatim in partnership with Betalbatim Sporting Club presents, FOR BETALBATIM, BY BETALBATIM. This event will give the villagers of Betalbatim to display and sell items which include local organic produce, handmade articles, home prepared sweets, etc.

This event will be held  8.30 am on 7th October 2018 ( Sunday ) at the Church Square.

SUMMER FOOTBALL CAMP at the Betalbatim Ground

Betalbatim Sporting Club organised a SUMMER FOOTBALL CAMP at the Betalbatim Ground from 8th April 2018 to 21st April 2018. This camp was for boys and girls between the age group of 7 years to 16 years. Over the years Betalbatim Sporting Club has been instrumental in infusing fresh talent into the game of football by organising such summer camps. The Coaches Mr. Bill Mallet, Cady Furtado and Jhonson D'Souza have given their best as always for this Summer Camp.. On the last day the young footballers expressed their gratitude towards their coaches..

Parking for Two Wheelers at Betalbatim Church



Our Lady of Remedios Church ,Betalbatim is probably one of the most admired Church of South Goa. The Church has been well maintained after restoring of the grandeur of the Main altar and the side altars with gold leaf pasting. The is paved area between the Church and the lush green lawns, has wooden benches around. These sitting areas get full in the evening when parishioners, The lush lawns decorated with trees is a sight pleasing to the eyes. 


Our Lady of Remedios in recent times has been one of the most sort after Church for destination weddings in Goa. This has prompted the committee in charge to think about the parking. The present Parish Priest along with the Committee and parishioners have initiated a plan for organised parking. In addition to the two wheeler parking on the west side, the church has parking for two wheelers on the eastern side.

Club of Betalbatim Villagers in Mumbai

Club of Betalbatim Villagers in Mumbai was founded in the year 1845 .Our club('kud', as it is known in Konkani) is a residential accommodation for the catholic residents of Betalbatim. It's situated in Mazgaon, Mumbai.
This structure has been providing accommodation for young boys who travel to Mumbai in search of gainful employment on the ship and abroad. Time has come to do repairs of the club so it can provide shelter for the generations to come.

The club has four rooms and has a common toilet house outside. The plans of repairs and renovation include.

  • Flooring and tiling of all the four rooms.
  • Complete new electrical rewiring .
  • Construct toilet , bathroom inside.
The total expense has been roughly estimated to be around 4.5 lakhs. This is a humble request to the villagers to willingly contribute for this cause. Those who wish to contribute for this Club renovation may contact Mr. Joe Cota in Goa or Mr. Nelson Alfonso in Mumbai. Donations can be also directly transferred to the Club bank account.

Betalbatim Church Cemetery gets a diginified look

Our Lady of Remedios Church has a beautiful well maintained garden and a clean paved area between the garden and the Church. Much work and development has been done inside the church also. The parishioners have been generously contributing towards the developmental works of the Church and Cemetery . The Parish Priest Rev. Fr Pascoal afonso along with present committee has initiated the maintenance of the Church Cemetery ( located east of the Church ). Repair works of the roof was completed before mosoon. Graves have been built-up to create space and have uniformity . The Cemetery has been well illuminated on the outside as well inside.

Dubai Cup, 7 A side inter ward tournament in Betalbatim for married.This tournament is being organised in the memory of Late Melvin,Louis,Bartolomeo,Agnelo. The tournament will be held on Holy Family Ground on 15th August 2017 from 10.00 am onwards.

Betalbatim Sporting Club organises Inter-village Football Tournament 2017 at Club ground. This 4th edition of Martin's Cup is sponsored by Martin's Corner, Betalbatim.

Guardian Angel S.C Curchorem lift winners Trophy

Guardian Angel S.C Curchorem defeated Sao Jose de Areal via tia breaker 5-3 in the All Goa Inter-Village Late Joao Francisco Pacheco Memorial Football Tournament. In the finals played at Betalbatim Sports Complex Ground today, the players braved the wet and  slippery  conditions on the ground and defended to remain goalless till full time. There were some  anxious  moments that had the crowd cheer getting the pace of the game in high gear. 

 The Chief Guest Fr. Lucio Dias ( Parish Priest , St. John the Baptist Church, Benaulim & Dean of Benaulim Deanery ) appreciated the effort of both the teams in his address during half time.


Mr. Mickky Pacheco ( MLA Nuvem  Constituency )   distributed football kits to teams from Nuvem Constituency. The tournament was  sponsored by Mr. Mickky Pacheco . There was a brass band in attendance that kept the festive mood of the crowd high before the start and during the breaks.
