SILENT KNIGHTS TOPS ALL-GOA CAROL CONTEST

Silent Knights,  Betalbatim w on the 1 ^st  Prize at the All-Goa Carol Singing Contest organised by Betalbatim Cricket Club on the 18th Dec. 2019. 

Sanctus  from Majorda bagged the Second Prize and 

Harmonia , Benaulim garnered the 3 ^rd  Prize. Altogether eight groups from Merces, Loutolim, Margao, Chinchinim, Orlim, Benaulim, Majorda and Betalbatim took part in Goa’s longest-running Carol Singing Competition. 

The Judges Mr. Emanuel Furtado and Fr. Peter Fernandes had a tough task choosing the winners as all the groups performed exceptionally well. Parish Priest Fr. Pascoal Afonso, the Chief Guest congratulated the winners and complimented the organisers. 

Xavier Cota compered and Wilma Noronha Cota quizzed the audience. Club President Franklin Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.

There news to cheer as the Club of Betalbatim Villagers in Mumbai gets a fresh coat of paint in time for Christmas.

Under the able leadership of Mr. Nelson Alfonso the manager of the Club this was planned in 2017. Mr. Mariano Rodrigues and Mr Wilbur Cota together worked under the guidance of Mr. Nelson Alfonso to get the outer area painted.

Those who wish to contribute for this Club renovation may contact Mr. Joe Cota in Goa or Mr. Nelson Alfonso in Mumbai. Donations can be also directly transferred to the Club bank account.

Our Lady of Remedios Church has a beautiful well maintained garden and a clean paved area between the garden and the Church. Much work and development has been done inside the church also. The parishioners have been generously contributing towards the developmental works of the Church and Cemetery . The Parish Priest Rev. Fr Pascoal afonso along with present committee has initiated the maintenance of the Church Cemetery ( located east of the Church ). Repair works of the roof was completed before mosoon. Graves have been built-up to create space and have uniformity . The Cemetery has been well illuminated on the outside as well inside.

"HANV TUKA BOGXITAM", a free tiatr ( Drama) was staged by Youngsters of Betalbatim in the Chaul ward of Betalbatim. A young cast of budding actors gave a splendid display of acting to the crowd. The Youngsters also sang konkani songs in between the acts.

Guardian Angel S.C Curchorem defeated Sao Jose de Areal via tia breaker 5-3 in the All Goa Inter-Village Late Joao Francisco Pacheco Memorial Football Tournament. In the finals played at Betalbatim Sports Complex Ground today, the players braved the wet and  slippery  conditions on the ground and defended to remain goalless till full time. There were some  anxious  moments that had the crowd cheer getting the pace of the game in high gear. 

 The Chief Guest Fr. Lucio Dias ( Parish Priest , St. John the Baptist Church, Benaulim & Dean of Benaulim Deanery ) appreciated the effort of both the teams in his address during half time.

Mr. Mickky Pacheco ( MLA Nuvem  Constituency )   distributed football kits to teams from Nuvem Constituency. The tournament was  sponsored by Mr. Mickky Pacheco . There was a brass band in attendance that kept the festive mood of the crowd high before the start and during the breaks.

The Parish of Betalbatim celebrates the feast of Saint Bartholomew today on 28th August 2016. This is one of the main two feast the Church celebrates , the other being feast of Our Lady of Remedios in the month of January. Nine LED TVs have been installed by the Church to help the congregation participate better in the Mass. This was possible due to the kind help by some generous parishioners. It is hoped that the mass will be more vibrant since the hymns get displayed on the LED TVs.

Acacio Pereira & Cielda Pereira get awarded at 8th Goa State Film Festival Awards ( 2014-2015). It was a twin cheer for Betalbatim Village. as Acacio Pereira was awarded the Best Playback Singer ( male)  and Cielda Pereira got awarded the Best Playback Singer ( female) for the same konkani film Nirmon. 

 Acacio Pereira has fan following across stared hotels and some of the most frequented restaurants in Goa. Even shows in other parts of India have been talked about since quite some time. His unique voice and his skill with saxophone together has created admirers across generations. 

Cielda Pereira who shot into fame after being crowned the voice of Goa in the first edition of  " Goemcho Avaz" , has not looked back since then. Cielda has a journey of collecting awards for singing  since her young days and the blockbuster " Nachom- ia -kumpasar" launched her into the mainstream konkani playback singing.

Parish Pastoral Council, Betalbatim felicitated S.S.C students  of St. Jude High School who appeared in March 2016 Exam. Fr. Pascoal Afonso ( Parish priest of Our Lady of Remedios Church, Betalbatim and also the Manager of  School, Betalbatim) felicitated the students securing top three places.
