「ちがう、これではない！」と言いながら
ギェッ！ きょうの最高気温は37℃。いったいどこまであがるんだ。これで節電要請は、酷だぜ。市役所からは、今夏初めて、熱中症注意報が発令された。 しかし、冷房のきいた部屋に閉じこもっていられない。午前9時30分から10時30分まで、地域包括支援センターでの情報交換会議に出席。 帰宅後、画材店に出掛ける予定だったので、早々と昼食をすませた。何処からかの帰りだという弟が、私が忙しいことを知って、京樽のちらし鮨と巻寿司を用意していてくれた。 新しい技法で制作している作品をどうしても実現したい。もう何点も描いては、自らに「NO!」と言っている。こうなっては制作コストを心配していられない。ベートベンの第９の冒頭部ではないが、「ちがう、これではない！」「ちがう、これでもない！」と言いながら、考えつく限りの画材を探しに、画材店に出掛けたのだ。 Gee! I really want to realize a work that is being producedwith a new technique. After drawing many works, I said“No!” To myself. In this case, I can’t worry about theproduction cost. It wasn’t the beginning of Beethoven’sthe 9th Symphony, but saying, “No, this isn’t!” and “No, this isn’t!”, so I went to an art supply store tofind as many art supplies as I could think of.Tadami Yamada

木陰の色に違いあり
温度計が壊れているのではないかと思うほどの、連日の猛暑である。我が町は、きょうも36℃を超えた。午後20時になろうというのに、まだ35℃を下らない。 鉢植えの木々、・・・紫陽花、柏葉紫陽花、茶ノ木、もみじ等に、水をやるのを忘れていると、ぐったりと萎れて、見るも哀れな状態になる。毎朝、心して、たっぷり水をやっている。 我家の小庭は樹木が多い。そのため程よい木陰をつくっている。かんかん照りの日差しを遮っている柿の葉叢は、美しい緑である。もう若葉とは言えないが、鞣し革のような照りのある厚い葉になるまでには、まだ間がある。陽が透けるのである。その緑色がじつに美しい。私は見上げて溜め息をつく。 半袖の男の腕の日焼けかな 青穹（山田維史） 木々により木陰の色に違いあり The heat is so hot every day that I think if the thermometer is broken. It is nolonger ayoung leaf, but there is still a long way to gobefore it becomes a thick, tanned leather-likeleaf. The sun is transparent. The green color isreally beautiful. わが町の気温36.5℃
連日の猛暑。わが町の昼過ぎの気温は36.5℃。午後1時33分、市から節電に協力を懇請するメールが届いた。17時41分、再び市から「6月28日も引き続き節電のご協力を」と送信されてきた。 梅雨あけて雨を乞うるは猛暑なり 青穹（山田維史） 名をあげよ日照りの庭の雪のした* 蛞蝓 (なめくじ)も蚯蚓 (みみず)も日照る路上の死 【註】雪のした : ゆきのした科の半常緑多年草。学名、Saxifraga stolonifera Meerb.。紅紫色の糸状の匍匐枝を長く地上に伸ばし、新しい枝をつくる。５月から７月に掛けて茎の上部に多数の白色５弁の細い花をつける。５弁のうち３弁は小さいので一見すると２弁のように見える。葉はロゼット型である。牧野富太郎博士によると、日本名「雪の下」は、おそらく葉の上に小さな白い花が咲くのを雪にたとえ、その下に緑色の葉がちらちら見える形を表現したのであろう、と。 我家の小庭の二三の「雑草」植木鉢をおおっている。花盛りは少し過ぎた。 Extreme heat every day. From May to July, a large number of thin whitefive-petaled flowers are borne on the upper partof the stem. The leaves are rosette-shaped. Since 3 ofthe 5 petals are small, so they look like 2 petales atfirst glance. According to Dr. Tomitaro Makino, the Japanesename “Yukinoshita (Under the Snow)” probably com-pared the blooming of small white flowers on the leaves to snow, and expressed the shape of green leaves scattered underneath. 二色の混じり合わない河
夜23時40分、きょうの作品制作を終了した。 新しい技術処理がなかなか思いどおりにいかない。思いどおりにいかないという言い方は、あるいは不適当かもしれない。というのは、私の意識によってコントロールできない、すなわち偶然性によって出現するイメージを、きわめて作為的に欲しているからだ。 ずいぶん変なことを試みているわけだ。私はこれまで絵描きとしての半生で、自分の作品制作過程から無意識を排除することを、それこそ意識的にやってきた。自作の隅々まで記憶している。いまここに来て、宗旨変えをしようとしているのではないが、作為と偶然性を「統一的」に融合する、という考えがでてきた。「人間社会の当然」の表象とは、そういうことだ、とあらためて考えるからだ。 しかしそのように考えはするけれども、いざやってみると、偶然に発生したイメージに「納得」がいかないということが、私の感受性におこっているのだ。 昨夜、こんな夢を見た。 或る絵具の色と別の絵具の色とがまじりあわない。私の目の前いっぱいに、二筋の色がまるで大河のようだ。濁流のようだ。しかし二筋の色はくっきり分かれていて、まじりあわない。その河のような二色の手前、私の目の前をシャンポール城の、・・・あるいはシュノンソー城かもしれぬ・・・塔がゆっくりと過ぎて行った。（動くはずがない塔建築が、私の目の前を横切った！） たぶん私は眠りながら、苦慮している作品のことを考えていたのだろう。 At 23:40 pm, today’s work was finished. 猛暑を衝いて
猛暑である。午後５時半になるところだが、温度・湿度計はいまだに35℃と湿度48％を示している。 昨日は地区担当民生委員・児童委員として、東京都を出て、いわゆる管外研修。私は朝5時に起床、7時30分に出発し、帰宅したのが午後8時を過ぎていた。まるまる半日、12時間の仕事だった。きのうも猛暑だった。 さて、一夜明けて、しかし私はのんびりもしていられず作品制作。取りかかる前に2時間ばかり外出、半袖シャツから出た裸の腕が、みごとに真っ赤に日焼けした。外出先で冷たいコーヒーを飲み、帰って来て再びコーヒーやら冷水。さらに梅干しを一つ落とした冷水を仕事部屋にもちこんだ。 そうそう、外出は電動自転車を使ったが、人通りの少ない通りの往復時はマスクをはずし、人ごみに近づく前にマスクをした。建物の中や、人と話をしているときはもちろんマスクを着けて。・・・今後、ほとんど仕事部屋に閉じこもることになるが、外出しなければならない現在決定しているスケジュールは４件。この暑さを思うと、少し気が重い。

沖縄戦全犠牲者「慰霊の日」
沖縄戦全犠牲者のための「慰霊の日」、私も遠くから24万1686人の戦没者を追悼します。 沖縄県糸満市の「平和の碑」に名前を刻まれた24万1686人の沖縄戦の戦没者は、日本全国からの出身者のみならず、米英や朝鮮半島の出身者をふくむ。戦争の犠牲に、国籍等は関係ない。このような思想がなくては、平和を祈れるはずはないからである。 ことしは12日間かけて、碑に刻まれた全戦没者のお名前を読み上げたそうだ。私はそのニュースを万感の思いで受け止めた。現在もなお、戦争を指向（嗜好）する人たちが、後を絶たないからである。 On “Okinawa Memorial Day” for all the victims of theBattle of Okinawa, I also mourn the 241,686 war deadfrom afar. The 241,686 people who died in the Battle of Okinawa, whose names were engraved on the “Monu-ment of Peace” in Itoman City, Okinawa Prefecture, include not only people from all over Japan but alsopeople from the United States, Britain and the KoreanPeninsula. Nationality is irrelevant to the victims of thewar. Without such an idea, we cannot pray for peace. It took 12 days to read out the names of all the wardead engraved on the monument. 何やってんだか，私は！
アッハッハッハ、何やってんだか，私は！ ・・・今朝、朝食をつくりながら、ふと思いついたことがあった。そのまま考え事をしながら仕事部屋に向かった。ドアを開ける時に、左手にレッドキャベツを持っていることに気がついた。サラダをつくっている途中で、急いで仕事部屋に駆け込んだからだ。ひとりで笑ってしまった。「何やってんだか！」 考えをメモして、ふたたびキッチンに戻り、調理のつづき。 コロナウィルス禍のために、2年間中止していた医療クリニックにおける私の美術講義を、そろそろ再開できないかと考えている。先日、主催者である院長夫人にお目にかかったときに、そんな話も少しした。 再開するにあたっては、私に二つのテーマがある。 そのひとつは、油彩画の組成構造と油絵具の化学についてだ。絵画に関心があり、常日頃から展覧会に出掛けている人でも、なかなか油彩画の化学についてまで知ることは少ないかも知れない。趣味で油絵具で絵を描いている人も、自分の使っている絵具の化学的な性質や、その性質が制作過程や制作後の経年でどのように作品に影響するのかを、深く考える人は少ないかも知れない。 完成した絵画は、「物」である。絵画における精神性や感覚的な美は、絵具の物質的審美性に支えられている。絵具で絵を描くという行為は、精神による物性の統御であり、同時に、物性によって精神が統御されているのである。・・・そのあたりの事を、私は少し話してみたいのだ。 とはいへ、専門的な化学の問題を、一般の受講者に対して、どのようにプレゼンテーションしたら分かり易く、しかもおもしろくなるであろうか。どのような参考画像を準備したらよいだろうか。・・・私が考えていたのは、そのことだった。しかし、一度はやっておきたいテーマではある。 この医療クリニックの私の美術講義は、同じ話を二回、二日にわたっておこなう。少人数に限定したサロン風なものだ。学校の講義とは違い、いわば一期一会の講義である。これまでの講義すべてに参加している人もいるし、参加者を患者に限定していないけれども、しかし、「病院」という場所柄、私は、大げさと思われるかもしれないが、受講者に対して一期一会の覚悟で臨んできた。そのため、一回のテーマについての話を後に持ち越さないようにしてきた。 しかしながら、私の話の基盤は、人間の営為は、この地球上のあらゆる生物の営みも含めて、その事象や現象は網の目のように繋がっているのだということ。その事実を美術をめぐりながら明らかに示すことである。一気に３時間から４時間、話しつづけた。「なにやってんだか、私は」と、後悔したくないのである。・・・話の中程で院長夫人がストップを掛け、全員に茶菓のサーヴィスをしてくださっていたが。 Ahahaha, what am i doing! ... While making breakfast this morning, I suddenly came uo with something. I went to my studio, thinkingas it was. As I opened the door, I noticed that I had ared cbbage in my left hand. I rushed into the studiowhile I was making the salad. I laughted alone. “Whatam I doing!” I wrote down my thoughts, returned to the kitchenagain, and continued cooking. I am wondering if can resume my art lecture at themedical clinic, which had been suspended for two yearsdue to COVID-19 pandemic. The other day, when I metthe organizer, Mrs. Director, I talked a little about that. There are two themes for me to resume. One of them is about the composition structure of oilpaintings and the chemistry of oil paints. Even thosewho are interested in painting arts and go to exhib-itions on a regular basis may not know much about thechemistry of oil paintings. For those who paint with oilpaints as a hobby, it may be few that those who think deeply about the chemical properties affect the work during the production process and over the years after productin. The completed painting is a “thing”. The spiritual andsensory beauty of painting is supported by the materialaesthetics of the paint. The act of drawing a picture with paint is the control of the physical propertiesby the spirit, and at the same time, the spirit is controlledby the physical properties. ... I would like to talk a littleabout that. Yes, how would it be easy to understand and inte-resting to present a specialized chemistry problem togeneral attendance? What kind of reference image should I prepare? ... that was I was thinking about. However, it is a theme that I want to lecture once. My art lecture at this medical clinic tells the samestory twice, over two days. It's like a salon limited to asmall number of people. Unlike school lectures, it is aonce-in-a-lifetime lecture. Some people have attendedall the lectures so far, and the participants are not ofthe “hospital”, I may think it is exggerated, but to thestudents. On the other hand, I was prepared to meet once in a while. Therefore, I have tried not carry overthe story about one theme later. However, the basis of my story is that human activ-ities, including the activities of all living things on thisearth, are connected like a mesh of events and pheno-mena. It is to clearly show that fact while going aroundart. I kept talking for 3 to 4 hours at a stretch. I don'twant to regret, “What am I doing?” ... ニューヨーク公共図書館の夏のプログラム
CNNが伝えるところによると、ニューヨーク市のニューヨーク公共図書館が、この夏、「サマー・アット・ザ・ライブラリー・プログラム」の一環として、市民に対し50万冊の本を配布する。子どもや成人の自宅の図書を充実させるためと、夏休み中の子どもの生産性を維持するためだという。ニューヨーク公共図書館は市内に92の分館がある。本はそこで入手できる。スペイン語や中国語の本、さらに活字の大きな本も用意されているそうだ。ニューヨーク公共図書館の夏のプログラム 日本の明治維新後、「ザン切り頭をたたいてみれば、文明開化の音がする」という俗謡が流行した。その歌をもじって、私は、「文化文化と口先だけじゃ、何のたしにもなりはせぬ」と、日本の文化行政をに突っ込みをいれてみよう。 東京都中央図書館が、都民に対して50万冊の本を無償で配布することは、とうてい考えられない。まして他国語の住民のために、そのような本を用意するなど、思いおよばないだろう。文化行政最貧国だもの。 ニューヨーク市の人口は約850万人。東京都の人口は約1400万人である。 CNN reports that the New York Public Library in NewYork City will distribute 500,000 books to its citizensthis summer as part of the “Summer at the LibraryProgram.” The purpose is to enrich the books at homefor children and adults, and to maintain the productivityof children during the summer vacation. 心を掻立てようと、他力本願で
新作のための技法を模索していたが、今朝、フランス製の画材が届き、これですべての画材が整った。イメージのデッサンはすでにできあがり、キャンヴァスの下塗りも終わっていた。あしたからいよいよ本格的な制作にとりかかる。 エンジン始動のために、心をさらに掻立てようと、他力本願で（はははは）、かなり長時間、音楽を聞いた。クラシック音楽ではない。独自の考案による取組みをしている人たちの演奏だ。 じつはもうかなり以前 (1984年) から、TEDx というプロジェクトがある。TED はTechnology, Entertainment, Design の略。「ideas worth spreading (広める価値があるアイデア)」をスローガンに、音楽のみならず、あらゆる分野で独自の活動をしている人たちを招いて、演奏や講演をしてもらうというもの。ヘッドクゥォーターはニューヨークにあるが、世界各地で開催され、オンラインで無料配信されている。10年ほど以前のパフォーマンスから比較的近年のパフォーマンスまで、その多くをYouTubeで観ることができる。 かつてはビル・クリントン元米大統領が講演した。また、2015年にはビル・ゲイツ氏が講演した。このとき氏は、予言的に、世界は次のパンデミックに備えていない、と言った。COVID-19のパンデミックが起ったのは2019年である。 さて、すでに知っている人もたくさんいられるだろうが、TEDxの数多くのパフォーマンスのなかから、私はここに次ぎの5つを紹介する。サム・パーリー氏のヴォイス・パフォーマンスジェイムズ・ハンバーストーン氏ダブステップの科学トーマス・スウォレズ君12歳のアプリ開発者ニキワカ・ヤワナワ氏の私たちはみな自然と繋がっているショーン・スティーブンソン氏のあなたの心の牢獄【註】ダブステップ (Dubstep) : ダンス音楽。通常、楽器（インスツルメンツ）による、まばらに散らされたシンコペーションされたリズムと強調されたベースラインが特徴である。 しかし、私山田は、トーマス・ハンバーストーン氏の場合、「音程複製」の意味が強調されているような気がする。ダビングのdubである。

原発事故避難者訴訟「最低裁」判決
福島第一原発事故避難者が国の責任を求めた４件の集団訴訟に対し、17日、最高裁第二小法廷（菅野博之裁判長）は、国の責任を認めない、と判決を下した。理由は、「現実の地震・津波は想定よりはるかに大規模で、防潮堤を設置させても防げなかった」とした。 あきれた判断である。論理をとおしたつもりであろうが、まったく論理になっていない。なぜなら、そもそも被告の「想定」に論拠を置くことじたい誤りである。「想定」は、当事者の見通しの程度の問題だからである。低きもあれば、月惑星の人間による探査のように人事を尽くした高度の「想定」もある。つまり、当事者の能力如何で、どうにでもなるのが、「想定」である。日本の原子力発電所の立地調査や設置については、これまで多くの粗略な調査と、いわば御都合主義な判断で実施されてきたことが判明している。その粗略さもまた「想定」であったはずだ。 日本の政治家や官僚等は、自分の失敗の弁明として、伝家の宝刀のように「想定外」と言うが、己が無能だと公言しているようなものだ。そのように、当事者の能力によってどうにでも変化する「想定」を、最高裁判決の根拠とするのは誤りといわなければならない。 いったい菅野博之裁判長が指揮する法廷の判事たちは、頭を寄せ合って何を論じていたのであろう。このバカげた判断理由を、どれだけの時間をかけて導き出したのだろう。 先日、新法「侮辱罪」が成立し、施行されることになった。しかしながら、国の根幹を左右する問題に関わる人物の国民に対する言動が、侮辱に価することは多々ある。私は、菅野博之裁判長の第二小法廷判事たちは、烏合の衆のように思えてならない。いや、カラスは頭のいい鳥だ。が、私の比喩を取り違えないでほしい。 とにかく、この判決は、その判断理由とともに、多くの人たちの「想定外」だったに違いない。日本の司法・行政に、ほとんど伝統的と言ってもよいほど抜き難くある、棄民思想が発露されたようだ。 On the 17th, the Supreme Court's Second Small Court(Judge Hiroyuki Kanno) ruled that the Fukushima DaiichiNuclear Power Plant accident evacuees did not accept the responsibility of the state in for class proceedingsseeking the responsibility of the state did. That crudeness must have been, an “assumption” as well. Japanese politicians and bureaucrats say that theyare “out-assumption” like the treasure sword of thelegendary family (one's best card) as an excuse fortheir failure, but it is like proclaiming that they areincompetent. As such, it must be said that it is an error to base the Supreme Court decision on the〝assumption” that changes in any way dependingon the abilities of the parties. What on earth were the judges in the courtroomunder the direction of Judge Hiroyuki Kannoarguing with their heads together? How long didit take to derive this stupid reason for judgement? The other day, a new law, Insult, was enacted andwill be enforced. However, it is not surprising that thewords and actions of people involved in the issuesthat influence the foundation of the country are insulted. I must think that Judge Hiroyuki Kanno's secondsmall court judges are like the people of crows (amob). No, crows are smart birds. But don't confusemy metaphor. Any way, this ruling must have been “out-assumped”by many people, along with the reason for thedecision. It seems that the idea of abandonment,which can be said to be almost traditional, has beenrevealed to Japanese judiciary and administration.Tadami Yamada

朝のうちに、先日の健康検診の結果を聞くために、主治医のクリニックに行った。 結果は、全身的にほぼ完璧とのこと。万々歳だ。心臓、良し。肺、たいへんきれい。腎機能、良し。肝機能、良し。口内、異常なし。甲状腺も異常なし。栄養状態、タンパク質、良し。脂質バランス、ほぼ良し。糖、良し。血液、尿、便、良し。血圧、良し。 ・・・血中脂質バランスについては、H/L比が基準値を0.5上回っている。この程度のアンバランスを食事で調整するのは難しく、また、正常にする薬はないので、運動をもう少ししたほうがよいとのこと。たしかに、作品制作に入ると、一日中、仕事場にとじこもりきりだ。 そして、高齢化とともに腎小体（糸球体）が縮んできて濾過機能が衰えるので、一日に1500mlの水（茶やコーヒーを含む）の摂取をこころがけるように。一日に必要な水分はおよそ1800mlだが、そのうちの300ml程度は食物に含まれている水分でまかなえる、というアドヴァイス。 脳、・・・これは検査をしなかった。 主治医がおっしゃるに、「山田さんは、物事を客観的に見ておられる」、そのため自己の身体についても客観的に観察し、書物のマニュアル化した知識ではなしに、自分にもっとも適した自己管理をしている、と。 まあ、そう言われれば、そうかもしれない。食事に関しては、ここ10年間、毎日三食および間食や飲料を、食材を含めてすべて漏らさずに記録してきた。今年の7月13日から11年目に入る。その一日の食事を私自身が調理しているので、栄養バランスの管理や、おおまかなカロリー、タンパク質や脂質や炭水化物や塩分の調整が、比較的容易なのだ。つまり三食の総計を考えながら、食材や調理法を調整できる。・・・しかし、努力をしているかというと、全くそうではない。自分の身体を実験台のようにして、良い方に向かうようにおもしろがっているのである。 血圧および脈拍も、10年間、そして昨年から体温も、毎日欠かさずに記録し、血圧は最高値と最低値を折線グラフにしてきた。こうすることで血圧の推移が一目瞭然である。これも、自分の身体でありながら内部を見ることができないので、せめてもの客体化をと、おもしろがってやってきた。そのほかにも自己を客体化する記録をとっているが、まあ、みなおもしろがっているだけである。そして、仮借ない自己分析による、老人としての自己認識のためだ。私が18,9歳のころの日記では、現在77歳の私は、もう死んでいることになっている。 とにかく、秋までエネルギッシュに活動しなければならない。まずは第一関門突破というところだ。

担当地区の小学校を訪問
午後1時、民生委員・児童委員としての担当地区の小学校を訪問。校長先生と副校長先生とに、コロナウィルス禍での子どもたちへの学校としての対応等について、お話しを伺った。ちょうど低学年生の下校時間だったので、玄関先で子どもたちが元気に「さようなら！」と挨拶してくれた。「おじさん、さようなら！」と言ったのは、男の子。・・・子どもたちが明るく元気だと、おじさんは嬉しい。まあ、ほんとうは子どもたちの祖父の年齢。爺さんなのだが。 ・・・民生委員・児童委員として、この9年間、おおぜいの子どもたちを遠くから、また近くから見てきた。 私が、オッ！と才能の片鱗に注目した子どもがいたのを思い出す。卒業式で自分のメッセージを発表するなかに、たったひとりだけ、透明で真っ直ぐにとぶ声をもった子がいた。あるいは運動会でのダンスがすばらしく、脚さばきが天性の品の良いエンターテイメントになっていた子がいた。茸に非常な関心をもってフィールイドワークをしていた子。他とはまったく異なる視線で俳句を詠んだ子。・・・これらの子どもたちは、芸術家のはしくれである私が、「才能」と思った、プライマルな素質をもっていた。あの子どもたちは、自分の「才能」に気付いただろうか？ 日本の小・中学校教育は、このような子どもたちの素質をのばすことができるだろうか。いや、それ以前に、教師たちはそれら一人一人の素質に気付くだろうか。 私は、私の人生の最高の先生である樋口カエ子先生を思い出す。小学校に入学して最初に出逢う1年生担任だった。70年前のことだ。しかし、私がいま在るのは、樋口先生の導きのおかげだ。私はいつも、「ありがとうございます、ありがとうございます」と、心のなかで言っている。 At 1：00 pm, I visited an elementary school in my area as a civil welfare officer and a officer of com-mittee of welfare for children. I remember that I paid attention the children whohad a glimpse of talent. ... While announcing theirmessage at the graduation ceremony, there was onlyone child had a transparent and straight voice. Or there was a child whose dance at the athletic meet was special wonderful and his leg handling was anatural and elegant entertaiment. A child who wasdoing field work with great interest in mushrooms with knowledge. A child who wrote haiku with acompletely different line of sight. ... These children had the primal qualities that I, anartist's feeling and experience, thought of as "talents." Did those children notice their "talent"? Can Japanese elementary and junior high schooleducation extend the qualities of such children?No, befor that, will teachers be aware of the qual-ties of each of them? I remember Kaeko Higuchi, the best teacher in my life. She was a teacher for the fiest grade I met when I entered elementary school. It was 70 yearsago. 人間の思考と精神の落とし穴
今はザックリとしか言えないが、昨年１月のアメリカ議会議事堂暴動と、この事件をめぐるその後の多方面における経過、そしてこの２月２４日にはじまったロシアのウクライナ侵攻と、現在も終熄が見えないこの戦争をめぐる当事者と世界各国の対応、および善きにつけ悪しきにつけ国際関係が密接に連繋しての状況を、多種の情報媒体によって追跡していると、私は、・・・政治経済面の各論的な考察を抜きにするが・・・、人間の思考と精神の、上記の事体における共通の落ちどころ（陥穽）が在ることに気付く。 あらかじめ注記しておくが、私が政治経済面の各論的な考察を抜きにするのは、それを考察していると、国家の意思決定をする最高権力者の心底にある、国家意志と合一化しようとする個人的欲望や、その精神性が見えにくくなるからだ。私は、権力者の意志あるいは目的が、国民というひとくくりにされる人々のそれぞれの意思や目的とは、権力者の自己肥大化とともに本質をまったく異にするようになる、と考えている。 上記のアメリカの事体とロシア／ウクライナの事体は、おそらく今後の歴史に特筆されるであろうことだが、しかしながら「事件」を起こした側の言い分（論理；理屈）は、われわれにもっと卑近な、たとえば「モンスター・ペアレンツ」の理屈の立て方と、まったく同じと言ってよい。そう、私は、まったく同じだと言う。 すなわち身勝手な極端なナルシズム（自己愛）の陥穽だ。極端な愛国主義、一国至上主義、と言い直すこともできる。 この思考回路には「自他共生」の理念が入る余地はない。まったくないわけではないが、思考の入口で差別と排除の観念が優位に立って来る。「愛国主義」というのは、「信仰」であり、自己のクローン化思想だ。一個の人間が自立しているわけではない。グループ化を強烈に指向せずには生きられない、存在の不安を抱えているのである。 現在の国際社会の混乱のなかで、民主主義の崩壊がはじまっているという指摘がある。新しいパラダイム理論が必要だ、という意見である。 そうかもしれない、と私も思う。 しかし、私は、民主主義が劣っているとは全く思わない。民主主義にかわる本当に新しい思想の萌芽を夢見るのは結構だが、いまのところ少なくとも私の耳目に入ってくるのは、新しいどころか黴がはえた王制であり、帝政であり、万世一系の独裁制、あるいは選挙制度に名を借りた一党独裁制、そしてそれらの複雑怪奇な混成思想だ。民主主義思想に基づく社会制度は、情念によって維持されているのではない。私は、民主主義思想に基づく社会制度は、無言のうちに万人に知性を求め、すべからく万人の知性によって維持されているため、つねに崖っぷちを歩んでいると思う。しかしながら、民主主義制度は、いま述べた王制その他の諸制度を「克服」して、これぞ万人が等しく幸福になれる機会を得られる可能性がもっとも大きい思想として、世界の多くの国が採択したのだと、私は思う。為政者の安逸を指向するのではない。むしろ為政者は「公僕」であるという思想だ。民主主義は最上とは言えない。が、万人平等を理念としてかかげ、歴史的な「克服」を経て打ち立てた思想だ、と。 民主主義制度は、為政者のナルシズムを排除する、・・・あるいは抑制する装置が、あらかじめ仕掛けられている。そこが大事なのだと、私は言いたい。 冒頭に記した「事件」は、語弊を恐れずに言うが、私は絵描きとして、これほど明瞭に人間の思考や精神を、さまざまな表情や身振りとともに勉強できる事例はない、と思っている。 Now, to say the least, the riot in the US Capitol in January last year, the subsequent multifaceted progresssurrounding the incident, and Russia's invasion ofUkraine on February 24 this year, and when will it end? I think that might be the case. However, I don't think democracy is inferior at all. It's fine to dream of a truly new idea to replace demo-cracy, but for now, at least what I'm seeing is a moldy,imperial, and universal dictatorship, rather than s newone. Or, a one-party dictatorship masquerading as anelectoral system, and their complex and strangemixed ideology. A social system based on democraticideas is not maintained by passion. I think that thesocial system based on the idea of democracy isalways on the cliff because it silently seeks theintellect of all people and is maintained by the intellect of all people. However, the democratic system has been adopted by many countries aroundthe world as the idea the most likely to “overcome”the royal system and other systems just mentionedand give everyone the opportunity to be equally happy. I think. It does not aim at the peace of thepolitician. Rather, the idea is that the politician is a“public servant.” Democracy is not the best. However,it is an idea that was established through historical“overcoming” with the idea of equality for all. The democracy system is equipped with a devicethat eliminates or suppresses the narcissism of poli-ticians. I want to say that is important. 新作の技法
頭の中にイメージはあるのだが、それを２次平面上に実現する技法を考えあぐねている。 技法的には必然性と偶然性とを混合し、イメージの必然性にしたい。技法上の必然性についても、また技法上の偶然性についても、それぞれの手段を私は持っている。しかしながら現実に、絵具という物質を扱うときに、制作過程で、必然性のための技法と偶然性のための技法との境界を、どのように処理して、明確にするかについて、なかなか解決できないでいる。 つまり、まったく異なる二つの技法を用いようとしているからで、要するに、それぞれに使用しようとしている絵具の「物性」に関わる問題が出てきたのだ。私の長年の経験に出てこなかった問題だ。 ・・・しかし、経験に頼るしかないので、このところずっと、頭の中でさかざまな方向からシミュレーションしている。 とにかく日時はどんどん過ぎて行くばかり。一応、新しいキャンヴァスは張って、それなりの準備はした。あるいは、支持体はウッド（板）にしたほうがよいのかもしれない。とにかくキャンヴァスでやってみるが。 I have an image in my head, but I'm thinking about atechnique to realize it on a quadric plane. 院長夫人の紅茶
朝のうちに、年一回の健康検診を受診するため主治医のクリニックに行く。私が最初の来院者らしく、予約時間より早く受診。 クリニックに着いたとき、玄関先でばったり院長夫人に出逢った。1年半ぶり、いや、2年ぶりにお目にかかったかもしれない。 私の検診終了後に、あらためて別室に招かれてお話しした。すばらしい紅茶を入手したと、わざわざ私のために、ティー・セットを用意してお待ち下さっていた。 紅茶漉しは、金色のビンテージ物を、これもわざわざ夫人のコレクションの中から用意してくださった。網ではなく、金属をデザイン的に穿孔した、いまでは見かけることがなくなったハンドル部分とともに一体型の甑である。 夫人は、かつて、紅茶の淹れ方や、日本茶やコーヒーについて、本格的に学ばれていた。お目にかかるたびに、私は、なかなか入手し難い茶やコーヒーを、最良の方法で入れて御馳走になってきた。また、夫人は、私の興味をかきたてる事柄をよく御存知で、茶葉やコヒー豆の実物を見せてくださり、その特徴も示しながら説明してくださる。 さて、きょうの紅茶は、インドのダージリンであるが、マーガレッツ・ホープ・スプリング・デライト（MARGARET'S HOPE, Spring Delight)。・・・スプリング・デライト、すなわち今年2022年の春に摘んだ一番茶。この後、夏摘みの二番茶、三番茶が出る。 スプリング・デライトの茶葉の外観は、通常の紅茶とはいささかならず異なる。なんといえばよいか、・・・小さな新芽を摘んで、そのまま乾燥した・・・つまり発酵していない状態だ。したがって、乾燥しているとはいえ、葉の緑や白緑（びゃくりょく）が残っている。 淹れた茶の色は、発酵していないので、これまた通常の紅茶とはまったく異なり、日本茶を薄めたような淡い黄色である。香りは、ほのかに甘く、さわやかである。いくらでも飲める。事実、私は3杯もおかわりし、まあ無遠慮に、「くいくいと、いくらでもいけますね！」と言った。夫人は破顔一笑、「まあ、ウィスキーのような！ この紅茶、和菓子にもあうんですよ。煉り切りのような」「ああ、そうでしょうね。通常の紅茶ですと、和菓子の餡ではいささかくどくなりますものね」 カップ＆ソーサーとティーポットは、昔、夫人が絵付けをされた白磁に銀線の花模様。カップの姿形は、きどらないおおらかさがある。私は数年前に拝見している。きょうの紅茶に良く合っていた。 夫人は最近初めて知り、かつ入手した抹茶についても話された。 京都のさるお茶屋さんが、自分の茶畑から摘んだ八十八夜の新芽で、自分が飲むためにつくった抹茶。そもそも抹茶は新芽ではつくらない。そのような八十八夜に摘んだ新芽の抹茶は、日本全国のお茶処多しといえど、そのお茶屋さんのみ。出荷できるほどつくれないらしい。ことしは158缶きたので、店に並べたのだそうだ。 私が興味を引かれた製法については、秘法なのだという。 お茶にくわしい院長夫人も、八十八夜の抹茶はご存知なかった。いつも買っている抹茶とは違う缶を目にして、当の店主を問いつめた。「わたし、もう、一気に興奮しちゃって！」 夫人が、「飲んでみたい」と言うと、店主はすぐに茶をたててくれた。夫人は、たちまちその抹茶のファンになってしまった、と。 すばらしい紅茶をいただきながら、話題は文化・芸術を中心にひろがった。そして、院長と同じ医学と芸術を学ばれたお嬢さんと、やはり目下、美術を学ばれているご子息が、ご両親がまったく気付かれなかった非常に特異な能力について、本人たちの口から聞かされて驚いた、と言われた。私は、そういう人がまれにいることは知っていた。わたしは19世紀フランス文学のなかに、その問題に触れている小説があることを紹介し、私の所蔵本のなかにあるはずなので、いつか探してみましょうと言った。それから、できればお二人で論文を執筆することを、その実験と検証方法のヒントを示唆しながら勧めた。 最後は、「黒」のさまざまなニュアンスについての話題。黒の紅型（びんがた）の着物を、かつてお嬢さんのために誂えられたそうだ。着物で黒の紅型とはめずらしい。染織家・芹沢銈介（1895−1984）の紅型作品は、生まれ故郷の静岡市立芹沢銈介美術館はもちろんのこと、東京駒場の日本民芸館でも観ることができる。黒地の作品はあるけれども、私は着物に仕立てられた黒の紅型はまだ見たことがない。黒のニュアンスに関して私なりの推測をすれば、藍を何度も繰り返し染めているのではないか？ いかがであろう。実物を見なければわからないが・・・。 院長夫人との「茶飲み話」は、いつも楽しい。きょうは1時間半もおじゃましてしまった。

濡れて行こう梅雨じゃもの
午後1時30分より4時まで市役所会議室で民生委員としての会議。家を出る直前に、それまでの曇り空からぽつりぽつりと雨滴が顔に落ちて来た。自転車で行くつもりだった。一旦、家の中に引き返し、レインコートを着た。出発してまもなく、山をくだりきる前に、顔に降り掛かる雨滴の数が増して来た。それでも、市役所に到着したときは、濡れたというほどではなかった。 2時間余の会議（内実はDVDの講義による研修）を終了し、市役所玄関に出てみると、雨は本降りになっていた。自転車を放置して帰るわけにもゆかない。ままよ、と、打ち跨がった。30分の道のり。レインコートを着ていても、裾が風にあおられ、ズボンはぐっしょり。湿り気は次第に股間にまで這い上がり、帰宅したときには、着衣で川を渡ったようになっていた。 そんな阿呆な老人の嘆きは他所に、子どもというのはいつも元気だ。通りすがりの駄菓子屋の店先で、3,4人の小学生の男の子が、わずかばかりせりだした廂の下で、ダンスをしていた。音楽もなしに、足踏みしながらヒョイヒョイと跳びはねるだけだが、そのリズム感の良いこと。・・・爺ちゃんも、そういうことには目ざとい。ぐっしょり濡れながら、ちょいと愉快になった。 雨蛙なかなか上手い跳ね競べ 青穹（山田維史）

マンハッタンヘンジ
ストーンヘンジ（Stonehenge）といえば、イギリスはグレート・ブリテンから北アイルランドにかけてのソールズベリー平原に存在する、いまから約5000年前、紀元前2500年から紀元前2000年ころに建立された環状列石群。ケルト民族のドルイド教の宗教儀式遺跡といわれている。1986年に世界文化遺産として登録された。 夏至の日に、中央の祭壇石と遙か彼方のヒール・ストーン（the Heel Stone）と呼ばれる巨石*とを結ぶ直線上に、太陽がのぼってくる。ドルイド教の根幹に、おそらく太陽信仰があったのであろう。そしてドルイド僧には、天文学の知識が数千年間にわたり受け継がれてきたのであろうと推測されている。 【*註】「ヒール」、すなわち「踵（かかと）」のような形をしている。 ところで、私はきょうの日記のタイトルを「マンハッタンヘンジ」とした。英語で書けば、「Manhattanhenge」だ。耳になじみであろうか？ マンハッタンは、もちろんニューヨーク市のマンハッタンである。 じつは、夏至の日、マンハッタンの東西に走るストリート、イーストリバーとハドソンリバーを結ぶ、ちょうど42丁目通りの直線上に、太陽がのぼり、そして沈むのだ。ニューヨークの摩天楼の谷間に、まるでストーンヘンジの巨石群でのような、この光景が出現する。ニューヨーカーはそれを「Manhattanhenge」と言う。 ことしは、つい先日、5月30日から31日にかけてが、その日だった。ニューヨーカーたちは、きっと、アイ・フォンやスマート・フォン、あるいはディジタルカメラを、見物の群衆の頭上高くかかげて、「インスタ映えする」写真を撮ろうと、おおわらわだったに違いない。
