We finally realized the ultimate sound-proof system. The ultimate sound-proof system was finally realized. We developed the ultimate sound-proof system. We successfully developed the ultimate sound-proof system.

1)電話:話し中 The line is busy. This road is busy around this time everuday.「今ごろはいつも道が混みます」 という意味合いですね 3)繁忙期December and January are always busy months for our business.12月と1月は、いつも忙しい時期です。

Right after I got up at 6 in the morning, I cleaned my rooms anda rest room.I started to work on to a certain translation ordered by 麻生セメント.The documents has 14 pages, but I was able to finish the translationwithin one day. When I finished 7 pages of the document, I took a rest and went downto my mother's shop for some business. Then, this accident took place. When I was leaving the shop for my apartment,I saw a little old guy trying to buy a bottle of drink and thencoming into the shop, saying to my mother "No change or drinkcame out, even though I put a 1000 yen bill into the vending machine."My mother got perplexed and so did I.In 8 or 9 out of 10 cases, this kind of complaint turns out to be false. So, my mother called Fukuoka Sales Office of Coca Cola which controlsour vending machines. She is not responsible for the vending machine, but just provides a place for vending machines to the company. So, she has no keys to open the machines, but they do.Coca Cola requested her to pay 1000 yen or give him the drinkhe wanted to buy with the due change on behalf of the company. So, she gave him the drink and the change. But before giving him the money and the drink, we put another 1000 billinto the machine and the machine worked normally.I became very angry at him.He looked to be tricking us into giving him some money and drink. So I ran after him a while after he left our shop.I saw him walking to the place where he parked his car.I told him that if he told a lie to us, he would get black eyesand be taken to the police. I said this as calmly as possible. Then, he got mad at me, telling me that he indeed put his 1000 yenbill into the machine. He went on to say, "OK, I will come backto your shop and make Coca Cola get to the shop andinspect the machine. You will find I was telling a lie or not."He began to use dirty words to me, even though I tried totalk calmly. I felt like using violence against him.He and I got back to my mother's shopwhere he used very dirty words criticizing me harshly.I almost went beyond the limitation of my patienceand almost slapped and threw him.If I had taken to any violent measures, I would have gotarrested. So I tried very hard to keep myself fromtackling him.-----------------------------------------------------KEN SUETSUGU

American BoyThis day was the day I had been looking forward to fromthe bottom of my heart.I was supposed to teach English to students at 八木山 Elementary.I had asked one of my students, who had a good experiencein teaching English to grade schoolers to go to the school with me.I had also asked her to teach English through games to lowergraders. I was going to teach English to upper graders.I left my apartment around 8:30 and rode a motorbiketo go to the top of 八木山峠 where the school is based in.I got there at 9:10. The student of mine joined me around9:20.Soon, the second period started. In the beginning of the second period, I noticed a boy wholooked to be American, then when I heard him sayingEnglish words, I was convinced that that boy is American. It was a little surprising to me that an American boynow studies at rural and small elementary school like八木山小学校. His parents, I believe, made a good decisionto send their son to this school, which is surrounded byrich nature. The student began to teach English to the 1st, 2nd and 3rdgraders. They were about 20 in number. The 2nd and 3rd graders remember me, since I taught Englishto them around the same season last year. The female teacher introduced two kinds of games:First she used marbles: She gave two marbles to each student. She said, "Let's play じゃんけん with your friend. If you loseyou have to give one of your two marbles to your friend. In other words, if you win, you can win one marble from youropponent. If you lose all the marbles, please go to me or Kenfor another two marbles." It was a very interesting and inspiringgame for them, I guess. Before doing this game, the female teacher(my student)taught them how to say numbers in English, say, from1 to 20, how to do じゃんけん in English and how to ask us foranother two marbles in English. When she was explaining how to do じゃんけん in English, the American boy defied me to do じゃんけん with me.The game started. Students sometimes came to meto play じゃんけん or to ask me for another two marbles.I sometimes lost in じゃんけん, but I had a good time withthem. The game went on for 20 min. or so.After this game, each of the students reported the numberof marbles they won in English. Then, the teacher moved on to the next game. She introduced 12 different colors and made the studentsrepeat after her while she was reading out the colors in English. After studying the colors, the female teacher divided the studentsinto two groups and told them to make a line each. Then, we placed each color in a line in the center of the room. She explained the students how to play the game.A student from each team had to start to move on the linetouching each of colored paper from opposite ends. When they meet, they have to play A winner is able to go on colored papers toward the opponent base untilthe next player shows up on his/her way.It was a very exciting game for the students. We enjoyed the two games. In the next period, I taught the upper graders how to calculate in Englishand how to exchange greetings with each other.First, I sang a Jazz chant, then moved on to the calculationand the practice of greeting such as "How are you?".They all remembered me and what I had done last year welland so it was very easy for me to have this English lesson, even though I had to tell loudly them to be quite.-------------KEN

Today I was supposed to work for a British gentlemanas his interpreter from 15:00.Now I came back home from Futsukaichi City where this gentlemanlives and I interpreted for him. This is the first interpreting job, I mean, oral translation for business meeting, for me in these three months, even though I often do interpreting work for my customers over the phone now. I have to get up early, say 3:00 or 4:00 a.m.in the morning to make a call to an American company. Today I went to this gentleman's house in Futsukaichiwhere he was supposed to have a business meetingwith a Japanese sales person. -------------------------------------------------- This morning I spent two hours in my own voice trainingand prepared myself well for the interpretation work. I didn't want to make any error in my oral translation todaybefore one of my students.I had invited one of my students to be with meand watch me interpreting as a, sort of, career educationto her and I, of course, got the permission about thisfrom the gentleman in advance. ------------------------------------------------ Now I cannot mention the contents of this meetingsince this should be treated as a confidential matter. But I am very happy that I made it without critical mistakesthis day. I have to admit that the contents of the meetingwas not so difficult, but I am very happy to know that my skillshave not been deteriorated. At the same time, I do really hope that this opportunitywill be an inspiring element for the student. Probably I will be requested to have other interpretingjobs from this guy and/or other corporate customerssometime soon in the future. I am willing to acceptthese offers and, again, if she's available and interestedin, I would like to show my interpretation.

By the way, I am planning to hold Jazz Vocal Seminarsat this gallery under the cooperation with Mr. & Mrs. Artist.Probably I will have the seminars in November and December. By the way, this day a long-term TV drama, titled【あかんたれ】 ended happily. This was rebroadcast in the morningof weekday. About once a week, this drama was interruptedby a mail-order company's TV show, which I always got frustrated. The story is very long and too complicated to write down here.I will introduce this story to you sometime in the future. This drama teaches me how business or business persons should be. Well, I have lost the pleasure in the morning sincethis day. -------------------------------------ken

◎Tuesday Oct. 10thThis day, マサジアートさん started its new customer service. They started to have a restaurant only for lunch inside their gallery. The name of the restaurant is 【オリーブの樹】They serve us ドライカレー on Tuesday and Wednesday and牛すじ丼 on Thursday and Friday. This day they were supposed to serve us ドライカレー.I went there to eat this lunch.Surprisingly, their set of ドライカレー was completely differentfrom my imagination.First, they brought me a shallow bowl of vegetable soup.It was delicious. I had imaged that the soup would be a small cupof soup just like the one I eat at a small restaurant. But totally different. After eating the soup, next came a plateof ドライカレー with some green vegetables.I had thought it would be curry-flavored fried rice, but their ドライカレー was quite different from my imagination. It was tasty and enough amount for me. After eating it, they served me some fruits as dessert and a cup of coffee. They were delicious. While eating this lunch, I decided to invite a student of mine, who is a translator, to this restaurant on the following day. *Please click this URL to see what マサジアートさん is like.

◎Sunday Oct. 8thEarly morning on this day, a student of mine came to see me and give mesome cake. I thanked her for her kindness. This day I had JAZZ VOCAL SEMINAR #2 at サンアビリティイイヅカ.I had two participants. They both go to GEOS to study English.I heard and surprised that their lesson at GEOS is just 45 min.Too short. Plus they have the 45min-lesson with a couple of other students. So, I don't think that they have enough opportunity or time to communicatewith their teacher in English. In this seminar, I introduced two songs: The Tennessee Waltz by Patty Page(パティ・ペイジ)and Melodie D'amour by Eydie Gorme.(イーディ・ゴーメ) In the evening, I had a dinner with my students and their sister.I sometimes fail to talk with fun to them, so sometimes I ask themto have a dinner with them in order to get used to them. ------------------------------------------------------------Ken

◎Saturday Oct. 7thOct.7th is my birthday. I turned 40 this day.I got several presents and messages from my studentsfor which I thank very much.A student of mine kindly sent me an e-mail messagewith BGM of "Take The A Train". I was really pleased, since this jazz song is my favorite. RE: My feeling:What have I felt since I turned 40???There is just one word to express my feeling.I have been 【shocked】. Time has flown really fast!!Because I have no family of mine even though I'm 40.Still single, still struggling with a lot of things personally. This is what I sometimes told to my students and friends, but the span between the age of 0 and the age of 20and that between the age of 21 and the age of 40 arequite different, I feel. Looking back on my past 20 years, I spent the first decadein mainly working for trading firms and learning business in Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo and Nagoya, the major big cities in Tokyo. Then, I spent another decade in working as an English translatorin Iizuka and Fukuoka. Actually I've had just 8 years' career as an interpreter/translator.(I define the both words as the same)I have an only short career as an English translator and so I would like to work my own to reach a higher place as an translatorand human being. As for marriage, I have already given it up.There is nothing I can do about this matter.----------------------------------------------------- RE: mixiThis day I reopened my page on mixi.I am going to use mixi only for my business promotion, never for my private affairs. No private things or private diary this time.In other words, I won't give any comments toothers' diary. Some people tend to make a comment on others'diary even though they themselves don't keepdiary on mixi. This is what I dislike, since it's unfair, I think. So, it will be meaningless if you want to read my private diaryon mixi because I won't do that. When I used mixi before, I wrote down my private thingson my diary to let off my steam, but it failed.Or rather, mixi became another source of my stress at that timeand then I left it.After I left mixi, I investigated any potential effect that I wouldhave if I used this site for my business promotion for about two monthsand found that I should use this site again for business promotion, not for private matters. I decided to reopen my page on the siteon my birthday. That's why. ----------------------------------------------------------In the evening of Oct. 7th, I cancelled two English lessons with my youngstudents and went to 直方 riding a bike for exercise.I sweated a lot and felt refreshed.

のYamakasa makes Hakata!!! My finger doesn't obey me. His skill betrays himself (easily).

This day I met with a new customer at a local hotel,"Nogami President Hotel" for business discussion. He came to know me through an old friend of minewho now lives and works for a housing company as adirector. This friend and I were on the baseball teamof our junior high school, This friend kindly introduced me to him as a translator. He asked me to translate English-writtencertificate of marriage and that of birth of his new wife into Japanese.I got surprised to hear his story. This gentleman is 59 now and married a Philipino this summerwho is 20!!!!!! He lost his previous wife, of course Japanese wifetwo years ago. She suffered from disease to death.A long time after her death, this gentleman went to Philippinesand stayed there for two months. He met his current wife there. The new wife had worked at a local restaurant managed byJapanese entrepreneur as a waitress and talked to himsaying that she wanted to go to Japan or learn Japaneselanguage. Then, they began to date and married later. The wife's mother is 35 years old, so she gave birth to thislady at the age of 14. Her father is 42 years old. It's also surprising to me that the wife's mother is the sameage as his daughter, and younger than me!!!They have 39 years difference in age!!! 39!!This gentleman has a son and a daughter, both of themare married now and have their own families. At first, his daughter was strongly ageist her father's newmarriage, but gave in to this marriage. It may be true that a normal foreigner doesn't mind difference in agebetween him/her and his/her spouse(配偶者).But what a difference there is between the gentleman and his new wife.In the evening, I had an English lesson with one of my students. We practiced Japanese - English translation as a good training ofspeaking English. This coming Saturday, I will turn 40.The age of 40 requires me not to affected by desires, saysConfucius. It will be tough for me.----------------------------------------------------------ken

Let's make a fresh start. make a fresh start I guess Horiemon might make a fresh startsomeday in the future.

Sunday Oct.1stThis day I had planned to go to 内ガ礎、直方 to climb福智山(Mt. Fukuchi) for training myself. But I had to cancel this plan and to get down to anurgent transaltion work. It was a very tiring work, butinsted, I charged them over 30,000 yen for translatingthe documents urgently. That pays very much.In the morning, I had an English lesson with a technicalcollege student. He is supposed to make a presetationin English about his own researches he does now at the college. So, I taught the student how to make an English presentationin the lesson. He now work part time at 白木屋 in front of Kokura Sta.I will go there when I go to Kokura on business.I spent the whole day in translating the documents. In the evening, one of my part timers, Hiromi-chancame to see me and talked about her job.She works at a local nursing school as a tentative teacher. She said that she would like to change herworkplaces and start to work at a kindergarten from the next spring.I gave her some advice about this.-------------------------------------------------ken
