In Japan, there is the city named Obama. Doesn't it remind you of the American politician Barack Obama? Actually, Mr. Obama knew there was the city whose name was the same as his when he came to Japan last year, and he mentioned this city's name in his sp ee ch. I wonder who told him that. Anyway, since then, the people who live in Obama city have developed a special feeling for him and they hope he will become the next President of the United States. They made a private supporters group for him and even the mayor of the city sent several presents to him. I thought it was weird. However, to my surprise, I heard the mayor received a favorable reply from Mr. Obama. Mr. Obama was kind enough to do so, although these supporters in Japan have nothing to do with the election at all. The mayor and the people in Obama city must be happy now.

日本には小浜（オバマ）という名前の都市があります。これってアメリカの政治家バラク・オバマ氏を連想させませんか？実はオバマ氏が去年日本に来たとき、彼は彼と同じ名前の都市があることを知っていて、スピーチの中でこの都市の名前を出したのです。誰がそれを教えたんでしょうね。ともあれ。それ以来、小浜市の人々は彼に対して特別な感情を募らせており、彼に大統領になって欲しいと願っています。彼らは私設応援団を作ったりし、市長でさえ、彼にいくつかのプレゼントを贈っています。私はそれってなんか変だなあと思いました。しかし、驚いたことに、小浜市長はオバマ氏から好意的な返事を受け取ったそうです。これら日本の支持者は選挙には一切関係が無いのに、親切にもオバマ氏はそうしてくれたのです。小浜市長と市民はいま喜んでいるに違いありません。
