The rule 3 to write in English easy to understand…. Use active sentences. Japanese is better suited for describing a visual scene. In contrast, English is good to express actions. So people have a preference of “I have two children.” more than “There are two children in my family”. But when you don’t need to define a subject, it is natural to use passive voice. For example, “A storm warning was broad coasted on TV.” 分かりやすい英語を書く秘訣その3.能動態を使うべし.日本語は情景描写を好み,英語はアクション描写を好むという.「私には子供が2人います」という文にしても「いる」という情景で表現するか,「所有する」というアクションで表現するかで印象が変わる.しかし主語を明示する必要がない時は,英語といえども受動態が自然である.例えば「テレビで暴風警報が放送された」とか.【参考文献】大井恭子 2002. 『「英語モード」でライティング ネイティブ式発想で英語を書く』講談社.

The rule 2 to write in English easy to understand…. Don’t use the phrase “I think”. That phrase means an expression of uncertainty. The most conspicuous example is the phrase “I think I want to…”. You may puzzled and say “Don’t you know even your feelings?!”. And “I think it is all right.” produces ambiguity of the judgment.分かりやすい英語を書く秘訣その2.「思う=I think」はなるべく使わない.その最たるものが「~したいと思います」である.こんな風に言われたら「自分の気持ちも分からないのか?!」と怪訝そうな表情をされてしまう.「よいと思います」の場合も“I think it is all right” としてしまっては「よい」という判断にかげりが出てしまう.【参考文献】大井恭子 2002. 『「英語モード」でライティング ネイティブ式発想で英語を書く』講談社.

I read the book titled “Writing in English-mode”. The author, Oi Kyoko says Japanese write English in Japanese-mode, so native English speakers can hardly understand it. She tells us keys to write polished composition. 1.Don’t repeat the sentence that starts by “I”. For example, I like soccer best.→Of all the sports, soccer is my favorite. I cannot eat all this food.→It is impossible for me to eat all this food.『「英語モード」でライティング』という本を読んだ.著者の大井氏が主張することには,日本人は「日本語モード」のまま英文を書くので,ネイティブスピーカーにさっぱり通じないという.そして洗練された英文を書く秘訣が伝授されている.1.Iで始まる文を繰り返さない.例えば…私はサッカーが好きです.→全てのスポーツの中でサッカーが 最もお気に入りのスポーツです.私はこの食べ物を全部食べられません.→この食べ物を全部食べることは不可能です.などなど.

As the shopping center is packed with families, many films brought by customers are children’s shot. For example, newborn babies, infants, primary school children and so on. Those are precious times that I have passed through, too. And there are commemorative pictures I have not experienced, like marriage ceremony. Every family takes a picture at their turning point. I feel like attending their scenes by development. ショッピングセンターは家族連れが多いので,依頼される写真も子供を撮ったものが多い.例えば,生まれたばかりの赤ちゃん,保育園児,小学生などなどである.それらは私も通り過ぎてきた大切な時間である.結婚式のように私が経験していないものもある.何はともあれ,みんな人生の節目節目で写真を撮るようだ.現像を通してそれらの場面に立ち会っているような気分になる.

The camera shop I work stands in a small shopping center. We advertise that we can print photos in 30 minutes. Customers leave their films with us before shopping and get photograph on their way back. When we print a developed film, we check and adjust its color, shade and size one by one. So whether we (customers) likes it or not, we take a close look at all pictures. 私がバイトをしているカメラ屋は小さいショッピングセンターの中にある.店では30分仕上げを宣伝していて,お客は買い物の前にフィルムを預け,帰りがけにプリントを受け取る.現像したフィルムをプリントするときは,フィルムの色,濃淡,大きさを1枚1枚チェックする.だから好むと好まざるとに関わらず全ての写真をじっと見つめることになる.
