But worries of this sort do not sufficiently ripe. If I am troubled with that once, I fall into a deep place. “Why I am too serious? I hate my personality. Why do I live?” Question calls more question. People call the situation “putting the cart before the horse”. I need to get out of one-track way of thinking. Get a broader point of view! Look at the world from a different angle! But that can’t possibly be achieved overnight. Various experiences will help me.

From I was an elementary school student, a lot of people, for example, friends, teachers and parents have advised me to take myself a little less seriously. That is, almost all people who know me well have pointed out “You are too eager”. That’s right. And I had had felt sense of inferiority about my eagerness.

I run out of new things to say. I hardly know who read this page, so I shouldn’t write about personal information too much. But there should be not same day in life. So I only cannot think of it. If you have your own web site and write a diary everyday,How do you decide what to write? Would you tell me that?

We have only 2staff (manager and me) at our shop. So if the manager is busy with a customer, I have to cope with all other jobs. The more I wait on customers, the less time I can spend to develop films. On that particular occasion, couples came to request New Year’s card without entering forms. Indeed every person means no harm but all people looks like demons for me. If I get angry, I am failure as a clerk, so I won’t. But sometimes I am intolerable with customer’s outrageous behaviors. It is important to appreciate when I am clerk or customer.

A clerk has raged at me, when I went to receive photograph I had requested to develop, because I went to there too early. Which unspeakably shocked me and I cried bitterly after that by myself. I feel treated disrespectfully. But, as I work in a processing laboratory, I came close to bursting point. We are the busiest at the end of the year. For example, development, taking orders of New Year’s card, selling cameras or something and having telephone calls.

When she knew my passing for examination, she seemed proud of that. And make it public saying, “As I stated, N-san is Mr. Harada!” * * *I attended her deathwatch and met her face. She looked peaceful and beautiful in death. But I felt S-sensei exited there. “S-sensei, I came to see you. But, I had to do so more early.”

Nagano winter Olympics was held around that time. And do you remember? At a team competition of Jump, Mr. Harada went into a stall at the first time, and came out of stall at the second time. So Japanese team accomplished major reversal and won a gold medal. I was the very Mr. Harada at the first jump. She said, “When you went home, watch the rerun of the match. It is enough to watch just a one time. Then study and study.” And I became Mr. Harada at the second jump finally.

S-sensei reminds me of UTCE (University Testing Center Examination). I made a dismal failure in UTCE. So In using my homeroom teacher’s phrase, I narrowly survived only with a skin on the neck. I should have changed a university of first choice. She caught the news about me somewhere. She shook me by my shoulder, and encouraged “Listen, never give up. Be Mr. Harada!”

Yesterday, S-sensei died passing away after illness. Although I have just written New Year’s card, we receive news of her death suddenly. She was an English teacher in my high school. When she went into remission, we talked by phone. As I told her I’d like to call on, she said in-joke, “As soon as possible! Otherwise I’ll die.”

I sent Christmas cards to Caohagan Island in the Philippines. There are 2weeks to arrive from Japan by airmail. I wrote 4 cards. One of them was for Rebecca who interpreted Bisayan into English when we had research about relations between people and animals. Dear. Rebecca, How are you? I’m very fine in Japan. I am greatly graceful about your help in this August. I hope this card will arrive by Charismas. A lot of problems hit me here, but my experiences in Caohagan always help me. Please take care of yourself and give my best regards to your family.

In my teens, their songs always inspired me. For example, “Just Like America”, which criticize the present Japan, “Mind Revolution” and “Ashita no Kane". Those songs bring me to the extraordinary world and impelled me to something. They will sing with sincerity all along. That has attracted many people including me. But I have noticed that they don’t solve my present problems and troubles. I need something different from affectionate love songs and encouraging message songs. In other words, I look for my own song. Good-bye THE ALFEE and SEE YOU AGAIN!

I will attend the concert by THE ALFEE soon. I feel a premonition that it will be the last THE ALFEE’s concert for me. I have gone to their stage since I was a high school student. Although they were criticized for being behind the times, they have sung many excellent piece of music for 28 years. Their guts and sweat-in THE ALFEE’s word, “SWEAT & TEARS”- made them jump from an unsuccessful band to a stardom.

Being asked for my future, I answered that I couldn’t make up my mind. “How about being a teacher? I hope that.” “I’m not cut out for a teacher”. My curiosity faces to human. But where it occurs? Not from my love for human, but from just my interest. To sum up, I am too cold and coward to have warm relationship with students. “You are cut out for the job.” That made deep impression on me.

During a rest from my part time job, I came across a familiar face. We looked each other. She taught biology in my high school. I relied on her very much for studying for entrance examination. In that hot summer, I had gone to her with a study-aid book and my notebook almost every day. We exchange the latest news about ourselves.

A lot of people tell me “You are a character.” I wonder it is praise or not? Every human has an individual character. Do I overemphasize that? The balance between the individuality and an eccentric is very fine. I’m afraid of going for the latter. But Y said, “I’m often called the perfect picture of…. But I bear a certain level of suffering. So whenever I’m called that, I am irritated.”To sum up, it is important to establish one’s value by oneself.
