I still can’t wrap my head around it. This is about the dragonfly nymphs. The first one fell into the water right after emerging because the perch wasn’t stable—well, that was partly my inexperience.
But the second one… the exuvia (the shed skin) was firmly attached to the curtain, barely removable, and the wings were perfectly aligned. Its legs weren’t malformed; nothing was broken or missing.
When I found it, it was struggling on the floor about a meter away from where it had emerged. That must mean it failed on its first flight, right?
Then my wife casually said:
"Actually…"
"I kept the mosquito coil (well, technically a vapor mat) burning all night yesterday. Could that have affected it?"
A mosquito coil…
