Virginia General Assembly
The Virginia General Assembly meets once a year to consider and act upon legislation and the state budget in a Regular Session, starting on the second Wednesday in January. In even-numbered years, Sessions are scheduled to last 60 days and include the adoption of the Commonwealth's biennial budget. In odd-numbered years, sessions are scheduled to last 45 days.
The 2026 Virginia General Assembly Regular Session convened on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 for a scheduled 60-day session. Legislation adopted during the session and signed by the governor will go into effect on July 1, 2026 unless otherwise specified in the legislation itself.
2026 General Assembly Session K-12 Education Bill Tracking
During the General Assembly Session, K-12 related introduced bills are sorted into 12 bill tracking subject categories . Every bill in each tracking category includes the bill's title and links to the Virginia Division of Legislative Services webpages, which provide up-to-date summary, fiscal impact, and bill status information.
