Brookfield Elementary Capital Project
Information about the Renovations and Additions
The Brookfield Elementary School project was identified as part of the 2008 Renovation Queue, which was approved by the Fairfax County School Board (FCSB) in 2009. Brookfield Elementary ranks 47th out of 63 schools on the list. Planning and design efforts for the renovation were funded through the 2021 School Bond Referendum, with construction funding provided by the 2023 School Bond Referendum.
Upon completion, the project will modernize and reimagine the existing school building, providing updated learning environments and fully upgraded mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The renovation will also expand the school by approximately 34,500 square feet, featuring a partial addition to the administrative offices, transforming the current gymnasium into a new library, and constructing a new, larger gymnasium addition. Included in the addition, are 2-story classroom wing, expanded cafeteria, and updated main entrance.
Site improvements will enhance both safety and functionality, including updates to the bus loop, an extended Kiss & Ride area, new playgrounds, and expanded outdoor classroom spaces. Once completed, Brookfield Elementary School will total approximately 126,200 Gross Square Feet and will be designed to meet the Virginia Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Designed certification standards, supporting a healthy, sustainable, and energy-efficient learning environment.
We appreciate your patience and support as we work to improve our school facilities. Stay tuned for more updates.
