************************ This morning, as expected, another nymph successfully emerged. This marks four consecutive successes, from the third to the sixth one. After releasing it onto the balcony, it flew off energetically.
Last night I tried the second-day glass of Roumier—it was wonderful! Clearly more aromatic than the first day, and the flavors had melded together like curry left overnight (a strange comparison, I know), giving a deeper sense of harmony. Even though it’s a 2007 vintage, the improvement on the second day is remarkable—a true finesse wine. Lately, when it comes to Burgundy, I find myself less interested in chasing rare or hyped producers or extremely hard-to-get top-tier domaines, and more inclined to enjoy bottles from reputable importers, even if they are only 1.5-tier producers, provided the condition of the wine is reliable. Of course, for daily wines in the ¥1,000 range, I’m not so picky.
Yesterday, I took the kids to visit my parents, and on the way back I brought home a few bottles of Japanese wine from my cellar.
From right to left:
Kizan Family Reserve (Red) 2005
Koshu Kiiroka 2006
Kizan Chardonnay 2005
Grace Kai Noir 2005
I plan to enjoy these gradually.
On Rakuten, Kiiroka is well-stocked. Both the 2005 and 2006 vintages are mixed together.
Kizan is also famous for sparkling wines made with secondary fermentation in the bottle. I still have some in stock, and I plan to try them over the summer.
