AI operator and military contractor Palantir Technologies ( PLTR ) is set to report first quarter earnings results after the bell on Monday.
Morning Brief Host Julie Hyman Barron's Investor Circle Newsletter editor Josh Schafer look at Wall Street's expectations for the AI company, while also examining Palantir's release of a new chore coat.
Finally, just want to end with Palantir, which is reporting after the bell. As we talk about software and replacement, um, there is still a lot of bullishness around Palantir even though it's down 19% this year. But the expectations around their earnings are still pretty big. 74% jump in revenue is what's expected. Adjusted profits more than doubling. A big increase in the government business and in the commercial business is what's estimated. But this company also has the highest price to estimated sales in the S&P 500. So like that's what, you know, people are going to have to weigh against.
I I think it'll be interesting to see if simply they can really surprise. Like the Intel surprise to me really stuck out, right? Intel, they were 2026 earnings estimates were for 50 bucks a share. They come out, they've surprised with their actual estimates, then a day later analysts had almost a dollar per share for 2026. Massive surprise. And then you get a rally in a stock that had already been up 200%.
Right.
Can Pateer start to do that kind of story because the growth is there to your point. The problem is I think a lot of it is in the price.
I think it's already too well understood. Yeah, to your point. I think people know, you know, the people know what Pateer is at this point. Um, you know, and there's also sort of the memey vibe around the stock too.
I was going to say I do I love a sentiment sort of read on a stock like this where we're doing the AI trade right now. There's no doubt about it, right? That's been what's driving this entire rally higher. Panteer's participated but not to an extreme extent. To your point, shares down 20%. Is that a, all right, let's now rotate into that one. The same way Qualcomm gets kind of a crazy bid because it's like, oh, it hasn't really been in this AI trade that I like. like let's go scoop up some other names. That's kind of been the hot trade. Maybe Panteer falls into that. Maybe the jacket's truly. We didn't get to the jackets.
Yes. No, well, we can get to it quickly now. The company sells merch and the latest piece of merch that was hot was a chore coat. That's what it's called. It looks sort of like I I don't know what it looks like. It's a blue coat. I don't know if you ever could tell.
It kind of looks like a jean button-up situation, like almost like a mixed, you know, like a flannel jacket that's sort of thicker.
Like a shaket?
Yes, that you would wear, you know, you wear like outside by the fire, like when you're skiing or something like that. It looks like that.
See, I think I, the logo's kind of cool. to me, it has like a like a like a communist, um like worker vibe to it.
It definitely has a simpleton uniform look to it.
Yes, exactly. Well, anyway, it's sold out like that. It went on sale last last Thursday, which gets, you know, gets to the like persona and, you know, mystery.
Well, how many do we know how many they sold?
I don't. I
Never believe, never believe a merch shop that sells out unless we know how many they sold.
Okay, that is fair.
Because if they made a hundred larges and they sold a hundred larges, we can't be that impressed.
And as always, we'll be paying attention to Alex Carp on the call. Will he be wearing one of those chore coats?
On top of the white T-shirt?
Maybe.
He's normally a white T-shirt.
Yeah, we'll see. That would be fun.
